Well fellow GCers I’m going to start a single plant(feminized) grow in my basement. I must keep the electric use to no more than $20 bucks a month:(, so I’ll be using a 90 watt LED light(on order) and a 96 watt 2’ t5 light(4 tubes). Will start by using the t5 until I get the LED light then I’ll use that and add the t5 back in during flowering. I’m having my brother build me a 30x30x66 grow box, he’s also responsible for setting up the ventilation. Finally, this will be a hydro grow(DWC) as I just love to micro-manage my plants. I’ll be using GH’s floranova nutes and will use floralicious as an additive during flowering. My first problem to overcome is that it is damn cold in my grow area, 50 degrees, to overcome the cold temp I’ll be using a heater in my main reservoir (5 gal bucket). Now for the twist, to save on money and reduce waste I’ll start her off in a homemade mini bucket, it’s a three liter pop bottle modified to hold a 3.5 inch net pot. So here we go-------------à>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Start date – 12/8/11
Seed – DNA Genetics – rocklock feminized – freebee from “worldwide marijuana seeds”
Dropped seed in lukewarm water at 10am, by 4pm seed has sunk…transferred to wet paper towel and placed in ziplock bag. Prepared rockwool cube for seedling by placing it into half gallon of water with correct amount of rockwool conditioner and left it for 12hrs. For those who aren’t familiar with rockwool it must be conditioned so that the Ph is in the 5.5-5.8 range, otherwise the Ph is too high. Also for those who might be considering growing in rockwool, you must rinse the conditioner out of the rockwool before using it.
12/9/11 10am
Checked seed to see how it was doing…woohoo:hello: we have tap root and it only took 24hrs!!! Left the seed in paper towel for 4 more hours while setting up mini-bucket.
After setting up the mini-bucket I planted it into the rockwool which intern I put into the net pot and covered with clay pellets. Now the hard part, waiting for it to sprout.
12/11/11
It’s officially on she’s pushed her head through the rockwool and has started opening up. Once she has her first set of true leaves I’ll post picks. So until then have a happy!:smoke:

Update...I recieved my new TDS meter the other day and decided to find how good/bad my water was and to my amazement it was a only 35ppm, now that is really good for a spring, makes me want to start bottling the water and selling it. On to my little plant the first set of true leaves have sprouted and it's been only 7 days from dormant seed to now. So as promised my first pict.

Oh by the way, I have added a very small amount of nutrient to my resevior and it now stands at 150ppm, which is what I always start my plants off with, I can just see the tap root emerging from the rockwool so she should really start growing.

Cool, glad to have you on board! Heres a little update for you...from saturday evening to a couple of hours ago the main tap root grew 3+ inches and I have a half a dozen or more new roots poking out of the net pot and making a bee line for the nutes. So I uped the nute level to 250ppm and she's a happy girl. I'll probably be moving her to my five gallon bucket in a couple of days as I don't want her wrapping her roots a round the air stones.

Well, I finally got my LED light, that is one bright ass light for only being 90watts, I'm already dreaming of the buds she will grow! I was down taking care of my "sweetie pie" and she's just exploding, I'd say she has easily doubled in size. I'll be posting picts of her on xmas day, so stop by then...I will also be moving her from the 3 liter bubbler to the 5 gallon one, I just set it up tonight and am running it for a day or so to make sure the heater I have in it, is set to the right temp to keep her feet nice and warm, so peace until then!!!

Its pretty simple gehtto bubbler, I cut the top off a 3liter pop bottle, dropped a couple of air stone in the bottom and placed a 3.5-inch net pot on top, oh, I modified the net pot by adding a brim around the top by cutting out a top from a plastic 1qrt ice cream container, you can see it in the last pict I posted. But yeah, when I switch my plant over to the five gallon I'll take a couple of picts of it for you.

Looks good, that water has a funny color, but I'm sure that's what it's supposed to look like

Thats floranova for ya, it always tinges the water and stain the roots, but plants sure like it.

Second weeks picts. If you notice a little burn on the one leaf its my fault. After checking the temps of the nutes(got a heater in there) I forgot to clean the probe off and accidentally touched the leaf while replacing the probe by the plant. Sweetie Pie is looking good, shes started her fifth set of leaves and has added two sets of branches.

They're looking good! I'll be sure to lurk about as I am still undecided if my next upgrade is going to be aero or deep water culture.
