I am growing my own to legitimize the process of getting this natural "resource" without injecting cash into the industry. I also like projects and this will keep me occupied and educate me. No one will know about this and it's all personal. Would like to yield enough for 28g/month.

Having practiced germinating with some bag seed (with success... not sure what to do with the plants now but I'll let them take their course without equipment), I have my feminized seeds ready for germination. For my first grow, I'll use the following seeds:

    • 2x Super Lemon Haze
    • 1x Sweet Deep Grapefruit
    • 1x Dairy Queen

This topic lists the equipment I plan to purchase and use

Pictures to come after the equipment arrives.

    Thanks for reading.

P.S. I have good (albeit more elderly and less occupied) neighbors, I have sealed lips, and odor is not really an issue.

P.P.S. I have all the time in the world to do this; I'm in no rush and want to do everything I can to get this right -- even if it takes a month or two longer to produce my first yield.

  2. you will need some sort of PH testing be it the drops or elcrtonic pen tester.

i bought a millwauke(sp) pen tester and cal solutuion on amazon for like 30 bucks and it works good. you are spending alot on the other stuff no reason to not shell out 30 more

you will need to be able to adjust the PH with the solutions(pretty cheep as well on amazon) or with other acids and bases

  3. also im doing hempy buckets which is a type of hydro(without all the pumps and airstones), pretty simple and easy to fix problems(was worried when i first started cause the plants were not growing very well but you could tell when the plants roots hit the resivior cause they took off).

Thanks for your feedback; I'll move the pH stuff to the purchase list (and remove it from the "not sure" list.)

Does the General Hydroponics pH Control Kit sound okay for pH control? Given everything else I'll use is organic, I'd like to make sure the kit is organic (I see no mention of it in the product description.) Is there such a thing as an organic pH control kit?

  5. I'm excited about this journal man. *subscribed*. I will be starting my grow in the coming months, once it cools down a bit, as Florida summers are pretty rough. I will also be using the time to slowly collect the things on my list. Speaking of which, it seems you put as much time and thought into your list as I did mine, and they are pretty much very similar. I do have a few questions though...

You have duct converters and flanges listed on your shopping list. I was wondering if all that is really required. Reason I ask is because I live by an HTG, which is where I plan on getting my equipment. Additionally, it looked like the Digital Greenhouse would be all that is needed really. If you could please fill me in, that would be awesome. =)

Look forward to seein' some fat buds, man!

The reason for the conversion is my carbon filter and fan will be 4" and the hood has 6" connections on both sides. I'll just slow the intake normally but can raise it (causing a small vacuum) to cool if needed.

I'm not convinced I want to spend $60+ to go to a 6" filter and fan. Do you think I should go for the 6 and simplify the build?

Thanks for the sub. Still not made the order yet. Waiting for others, who are more experienced than me, to provide feedback. Hope to order soon but in no rush. I have enough $ for the current build configuration but may need to save/transfer a little more if I upgrade.

I added why I am growing my own in the topic starter post.

  7. I'm ready for this to get started, as I will be getting the same equipment (and close to the same strains) in September. So hopefully this will help me out as well as provide entertainment with plenty of bud porn.

  8. Quick update: I put my order in. I went for a better ballast and hood, upgraded the fans and changed the carbon filter/fan to a 6" one. Other than that, the order pretty much stayed the same.

Once the equipment arrives, I'll take a few pictures of the build and put them up. Then it will be time for germination of the first round of seeds :)

  9. wheres the stuff? lol i know you just ordered it, im just messing, whenever I order someting I check the tracking number online like every hour..lol

  10. It would be nice to get it all straight away :) I'm going to empty the closet this evening and get power run in there. I decided to purchase these items from a couple of different suppliers (I couldn't get everything I wanted from HTG Supply) but most things should be here by this coming Friday. I'm looking forward to it :)

  11. How ironic... I'm actually on day 9 (since germination) of my Dairy Queen. First time grower here. You should keep a journal.

Have you tried Dairy Queen before? If so, how is it? Do you have a journal? (Mobile app doesn't show signatures so I may have missed the link.)

  13. I am curious of where you had the seeds and equipment sent to? I recall you saying nobody knows about your grow plans so I am just curious.

Good luck with your grow man

    Thanks!

Rather than use smoke and mirrors that a rookie investigator could get round, I decided to use my real name and address. Asking friends and family to take delivery of these items is out of the question. I don't want to put their freedom at risk. I take full responsibility for my grow and I lay low and keep myself out of trouble, always. Many will say I made the wrong choice and that's fine with me. I'd rather not create suspicion with misspelled names, alibis (sp) etc :)

I am however, keeping my lips sealed and my grow stealthy.

  15. Sadly, I can't edit my first post with the current status.

Most of the equipment has arrived but I'm waiting on some items and I still need to purchase more. Here's my complete equipment / materials list:

I'll start with the following seeds:

    • 3x Super Lemon Haze (Fem)
    • 1x Sweet Deep Grapefruit (Fem)
    • 2x Dairy Queen
    • 2x Bag Seed

Here's the equipment I'll be using:

    Tent & Lights

    • Agromax 39x39x79 Grow Tent
    • Lumatek Digital 400w Dimmable MH/HPS Ballast
    • Xtrasun 6AC Hood
    • AgroMax 400w HPS Bulb
    • AgroMax 400w MH 6500k Bulb
    • Hi-Low Reflector Hangers

    Cooling & Ducting

    • 6" 440 CFM Air Duct Inline Exhaust Fan
    • Blower / Fan Speed Control
    • 6-Inch Carbon Air Filter 650 CFM
    • 4" Inline Duct Fan
    • 4" Ducting
    • 6" Insulated Ducting (to reduce the exhaust fan noise!)
    • 4" & 6" Flanges
    • 4" & 6" Duct Clamps
    • Rope Ratchets
    • 8" Fan for Circulation

    Soil & Nutrients

    • 2x FoxFarm's Ocean Forest Potting Mix 1.5 Cubic Feet
    • FoxFarm Liquid Soil Formula
      • Grow Big
      • Big Bloom
      • Tiger Bloom
    • pH Control Kit

    Electronics and Monitoring

    • 2x Mechanical Outlet Timers
    • GrowBright Indoor - Outdoor Thermometer with Hygrometer

    To buy

    • 8x 1 Gallon Pots (will need these in a few weeks)
    • 8x 3 Gallon Pots (will need these in a couple of months)
    • Closet door lock (so people don't get lost and discover the grow tent)

I've set up the tent and put all the items I have into place. Once everything arrives (last packages will come Friday), I'll put up pictures.

I'll be germinating the seeds tomorrow :)

  16. i think you are safe, i dont think the dea is checking every single purchase from every online horitculture store, especially since it would be impossible to prove you are growing anything but tomatoes. they have bigger fish to go after. i mean if you get caught for some other reason then they could back track those purchases for thier case but if you are already caught you are fucked anyways.

  17. I decided that I'm going to go for a Lumatek Digi as well. However, are you sure the AgroMAX bulbs will perform well on the digital ballasts. I've heard rumors are early burn outs. I was looking at Ushio HiLux's. Though not as readily available, seem to do well for other growers with the digi ballasts.

  18. Good question! This isn't something I've considered. I have a second HPS bulb coming with the ballast (the store I purchased it from say it's a good match) but I'm not sure of the brand. I will only have one MH bulb (the AgroMax one) so I'll let you know how it works out.

When you decide which bulb you'll use, please let me know so I'll know what to buy if my AgroMax bulb kicks the bucket.
