Whats under that tank??

Ok, so after looking at several threads considering small grows I am once again inspired. I have been into growing bud since I was like 14 ( LONG time ago)... never got much.... last time I attempted was about 2 yrs ago and it started off fine but failed due to LEGAL issues!!(another story) So this grow is something very similar to what I had last, a box !! Obviously I will be Training in this setup........

Dimensions are 30 x 12 x 30 lwh

Lights, 2 x 70 watt HPS

Pots, 2 x 6.5 Qt

Soil, Lambert Organic Potting Mix, the best I can get around here without ordering soil offline (no way) or driving 100+ miles to a dro shop... should I add some perlite?>?

Nutes, Fox Farm Trio Big Bloom,etc... this is something I actually ordered off line because WAY cheaper than a store.. plus got it shipped from Cali. just for extra measure even though they were shipping from here too... here Fl's laws on trees are OUTRAGEOUS..

I know you're supposed to Veg. with a light more in the "bluer,whiter" spectrum but my budget is out on all of what I got... about $320 so far .. If this box works decently I plan on buying some MH's for veg... just GOOD bag seed for now.... if it works well im shopping for genetics next round

and intake AND outake AND a circulating fan. i think you are good. but then again im not familiar with HPS.
i have one outake fan.. thats it. (and a passive intake)
although im using CFL's i doubt i have (draws a blank for the word ) the kind of circulation that i want.
but it will have to do for now.

Finished lights.. "Lithonia Lighting"s Standard 70 watt HPS Flood Lights found for $75 a pop at your local Home Depot... Meant for hard wiring so I spliced them with a pair of "Woods"s Workchop Taller Medium Duty ext. chords.. grounded and all......

Well here I came into some issues... the 6.5 Qt pots I had from Home Depot are too tall with the lights I acquired so I got some 6.5 and 10 Qt tubs. from left to right 6.5,10,6.5

Both of the 10 Qt tubs fit in there PERFECTLY with a little room to spare...I think im going to tape/paint over the clear and use the 10's... what do you peeps think??
Will my girls grow ok, in the shorter wider tubs VS the taller pots??

Lol i thought i was the only one growing under their fishtank. You look like your more ready than when i started. So good news for you cause i have bud and i have done a pretty bad job. will deffinately check up on this

Nope, Im using a pair (2) of 70 watt HPS's.. (? lumens) they were about $75 a pop at Home Depot without wiring. They're meant for hard wiring so I spliced with pretty heavy duty ext. chord..................

So this morning I look into the bottle cap I dropped my seeds into yesterday thinking its going to take a few days to pop but NO.. every single seed opened under 24 hrs !!!

So I rush to get the soil and few others things I needed........
Turned out to be pretty good soil, 100% organic, no nutes in whatsoever!! AND on sale for $10


I chose to use the bigger tub (obviously)..
Adequate drainage??


Then most of a huge roll of white duct tape to keep light from roots and no need to paint!!


Since all I'm working with is some good bag seed I wanted to make sure of me getting some girls.... so I planted 2 in each but i divided the soil so if i get a male and/or 2 females I will pick and choose and replace with fresh soil.......


More cramped in there than I thought.....think Im going to move the intake



So I left the lights on with no fans running for 2 hours with temp. topping out at 90 F ........ then I turned on the exhaust on low for 15 mins. and it dropped to 82 ........... I dont think I need the intake in there because temps. will drop even more with side fans on..... But there needs to be a hole somewhere the size of the intake becasue you could see the air sucking in turning the fan..... will do more testing.......



Sorry for all the pix... i want to keep this documented myself and this just keeps everything organized....... comments?? advice??

EDIT:: So Im stumped..... after several hours of turning different fans on/off the lowest I can get the cabinet is 80 F....it seems that the intake either does nothing to the temp. or actually makes it a degree or two warmer!!! I think with it on it recirculates the warm air back in since theres only about 5 in. of room behind the cabinet to the wall where the intake/outtake are positioned. So tomorrow I'm going to get a few feet of dryer hose and hook it up to the intake and see what happens when its sucking in air away from the cabinet......

Suggestions?

thor rolling a j, thats classic. 80 isnt a bad temperature either. my box stays around 82 and ive had no problems w/ growing in it.

2 sprouted this morning, the others are peeking now. put them on 24/0 .. will take piks later

Ok, so the official "birth" date of my girlies is 4/25 ................

This morning I go into my box and realise theres some stretching going on.. so I lowered the lights a bit.... I also cut out another hole for an intake.. I gave up on the idea of an intake with a fan so now I just have 2 4 inch holes leading out with a few feet of dryer duct....




Heres my "lonesome" girl that I started growing on my wondowsill (away from prying eyes) so she's a little stretchy..
Allready started training her...

I know shes in a TINY pot but she was just going to be tossed ... so I'll see how stunted she will get and/or survive........

Havent really used it yet, I mean yes everything is running through it (its the double plug with ground) but everythings on 24/0 and will be for atleast 2 weeks.

I think if you had some clones youd be better off,also i think you should use one hps lamp and get a nice cfl or even junk your lights and and get a small 2 foot double tube t5 really low heat and they work great! Not fresh, might look like I just finished when you look at the time I uploaded but there was ATLEAST 24 hrs of dry time between the last coat and plants/lights everything going in there.. plus, I dont think they make lead paint anymore:rolleyes:

I WISH I could get a hold of some clones but know no one in the "produce" trade. The light ideas also sound tempting but I went over my budget of 3 bills on this and dont really have the time/cash to spend....

So after lowering/modifying the lights ALL of the stretching immediately stopped. Dosed with 1/4 dose of Grow Big and Big Bloom 2 days ago and see no negative effects..... Will dose with 1/2 recommended in another regular watering or so....



Started training the tallest one so it gets some better light.....

The window sprout.... hasnt grown much but the top sets are real dark ..also dosed with 1/4 recommended grow big/big bloom... maybe adjusting to better/longer light....

I'm no expert but you might want to transplant your windowsill female to a bigger pot. Might be why its a little slower.

I would if I had the room but the whole floor space is covered be my 2 tupperpots...... plus it will not bother me at all if shes gone... just want to see is I can get her to bud in such a tiny thing.......We'll see

Cool setup, nice and stealthy. I'm interested in seeing how temps do with those HPS lights in there.

300 dollars! holy shit dude. I can appreciate you doing it this way but that just seems like a ridiculous amount. I am just finishing up a grow in my 46 gallon bowfront stand, and all it cost me was roughly.... 50 bucks maybe 60 tops with a small space like this i think CFL's are the way to go. im flowering with 6 23 watt and 2 16? watt warm bulbs and they look great just some food for thought....
