Originally in my blog at 2/18/11

I didnt think I would be starting so early. I took a seed from my stash and decided to try and cultivate it. I didnt think it would grow but this morning it sprouted. No grow box, no hydro set up. Nothing yet. I still have to order it all! AHHHH! Im waiting on the funds to start. SO, I set up the lamp and hopefully it will be ok until I get the set up. LOL! I dont even know WHAT it is! Well, until I get the seeds and the setup, this is my "grow box".

Today, I posted this pic, nearly a week after it sprouted. I was worried it might be sick. It is in its unfinished grow box. Ive moved the light REALLY close and the sproutling wants to touch it all the time!

You want to keep it close. The more it stretches the worst the stem gets.

I thought that 4-6 in was close enough but I moved it to 2-4in close.

Yeah 2-4 is perfect. Once it starts to get bigger it'll be great.

Today is exactly one week from sprouting and I think my little plant is sick. Ive only watered it twice since it sprouted (its been kinda dry lately) and always checked to see if it was dry half an inch below. It also has good drainage. A few nights ago, it's leaves looked dry and droopy so I misted the leaves a little and put some water in the over flow cup for humidity, but didnt water it. The seed casing finally did fall off with a little help from me. Any advice is appreciated.

Anyone? Is my plant dying? It grew two new leaves, but the larger leaves are really curling. Is that normal?

Damn that thing is stretching. Is that 1 cfl the only light you are using? Theres no way this thing is going to grow properly, already looks like it has a few defficiencies, nitrogen and magnesium...if you want any hope you should put soil around the stem to support it...and get a better fucking light, your growing on a place where people put their butts for christ sake.

No, its two CLFs and that is a seedling planter. Im almost done getting the grow box together, but I havent gotten the other two lights or made the fixture. I was reading in teh grow section that said two would be enough for the first two weeks so thats what I have, plus the reflector. This week, Im ordering the hydro kit to transplant it.

Ok, so against some of the advice here, I DID pile some extra soil around the stem and I gave it diluted miracle grow to help. But I was able to order my hydroponic kit and the correct feed for when it is transplanted. The second set of leaves are coming in nicely too!

They are about 2in away. How much closer do they need to be?

Well, my little spout has 12 leaves on her! So, how long typically am I looking for it to grow? I see seeds that say flowering 60 days. is that after you plant it?

LOL! Oh no! That was the first setup, and even then I would move the light within a foot. Now, its within inches. This week, I'm finishing up my grow box. Man, its an expensive investment.

My thermometer/hydrometer came in today so I left it in the completed setup for a few hours and it said, with the fan, that it was about 81*F and 20% humidity! That's why the leaves are all curled up! So I put a glass of distilled water in it and hope that will help until my hydro setup comes. Man, the bulbs must be drying it out because its close to 50% outside the box!

Good luck sir! Posted Image that little coffee cup chair dwelling beauty's gonna need some love. I'd go to a hardware store and get a splitter and at least get 2 CFL's going. OR maybe two splitters for the bulbs and do three. And get a little more light going on until you get your equipment.

BTW that's the splitter I'm talking about. Hope this helps!

I guess I need some pictures of the box itself. The pic of the chair is old. I've got two CFLs about two inches away with a reflector surrounded in a flat white storage. I had a fan pulling in fresh air, but it seems to help dry it out. When done, UT will be a stealth box with two fans to circulate air and 4bulbs, 100w total. That will be above the hydro setup. This sprout I didnt think would grow so fast, so I used the only planter I had. But the hydro setup should be here next week, the nutrients here this week. And this week I will have nearly everything together.

Well, I was going to wait to update my journal until the box was completed, but sometime durring the night we had an accident. The pictures attached are of the box as it is now, and the plant before and after transplant. Unfortunately, I didnt take a pic of the plant last night when it looked great. Durring the night, the light fell on my sprout and burned it up. It is still alive, but I dont know how to revive it. Any help is appreciated. The good news is I finally got the humidity level in the box to 50%. Hopefully that will help revive the plant. Today, I will finish the 4 light fixture and install it.
