So i've been around here for a while, and today came to the conclusion that it was time to start a grow journal! I've grown outdoors before, but this is my first indoor grow. Of course, there have been hurdles along the way, but nothing I haven't been able to overcome by observing and learning from you other fine growers here!
Anyways, on to the show...
My goals for this project were
a) to keep costs to a minimum
c) to only use materials easily found at my local hardware/big box stores
d) to learn, experiment, have fun, and have something to smoke at the end!
My grow space is a basic rubbermaid (sterilite) tub, 18gal size. Lighting is 100% CFL (5x26w, 2700K), using sockets and splitters plugged into a standard power strip, which is attached to the lid of the box with zip ties. The power strip is mounted vertically, which allows me to adjust the distance between the lighting and plants. Any other adjustments to increase light coverage are done by tweaking/turning the splitters in their sockets, allowing me to position the lights in almost any way that I please. The digital timer is mounted outside the box.
Smell and airflow are controlled by a 120mm computer fan, which is mounted to the top of the box and coupled to a DIY pencil-cup carbon filter (again, thanks GC!). Containers used for flowering are 1gal plastic storage containers, light-proofed with metallic duct tape and drilled on the bottom for drainage.
This is a name-brand lemon strain which was grown outdoors last year by a friend, who gifted a small batch of seeds to me. I had a chance to sample the smoke that he grew, and it was grade A delicious bud, so when he offered seeds to me, I couldn't pass them up. I wish that I knew the exact genetics, but he forgot the details beyond lemon-something-or-other. Seeds are germinated using the paper towel method, then placed in various smaller containers before being moved to their final 1gal homes.
Temps and humidity are monitored with a digital temp/RH unit, shown in pictures. Temps average low 80's, and cool down to as low as 60 during lights-out.
I apologize in advance for the picture quality, as all I have to work with camera-wise is a cell phone.
pics 1-2 are the two seedlings I began with in their new home, pic 2 shows the plant that is currently flowering in the 1gal.
pic 3 is immediately after transplant into the 1gal flowering container
pics 4-5 show the early progress in veg, sadly the plant in the bottle turned out male, so he was sacrificed to the bud gods and replaced with another bean. Notice the larger PVC intake has replaced the earlier, smaller intake to keep temps within a respectable range. Also note the improvised scrog/LST method beginning in #4.The switch was flipped to 12/12 after approx. 30 days of vegetative growth
pic 6-7 show the plant in the early stages of flowering.
pic 8 give a general idea of the layout of the box. It now sits on its end rather than bottom-down, for more height and to keep hot air moving out the top.
pic 9 was take on dec 30 @ 3 weeks, 4 days of flowering. Note the continued improvised scrog keeping her low and dense!
