Well well well, I'm back and ready to get things rollin'. I won't waste anytime posting pictures yet because who wants to look at seeds that are still germinating. :D I've started 10 seeds in hopes of getting at least 5 females. I'm hoping to improve on this grow compared the last one. I only used 23 watts of fluorescents for the first 14 to 20 days of my first grow, this go around I will have 200 actual watts of 6500k cfl's for veg. I will be flowering with 2700k cfl's with around 500 actual watts....I would be using an HPS but this isn't a permanent setup and I don't have intake/exhaust. So pull up a chair and don't be a lurkin'.

Update: All 10 seeds have sprouted and are a few days old, so far so good. I'm not gonna post any pictures till they grow some more. I can't wait for this run. :D Does anyone think I will have a problem flowering 6 plants or however many females I get under 500 actual watts/ 2700k cfl.

  4. The general rule of thumb is 100w per plant, so 6 under 500w would obviously be a bit short of that. I can't really see you having a "problem" per se, but the more light the better IMHO. Since CFLs are pretty cheap in comparison to MH and HPS, I'd say an upgrade would be worth it.

Congrats on a successful start. This next bowl of OG Kush will be dedicated to good vibes for the rest of your grow!

    Peace and :smoke:

Thanks man, I'm gonna add atleast 8 6500k's in addition to the rest of the lights. This should put me at the right amount of wattage, it's good to have full spectrum during flower right? I only used 2700k for my last grow. This way I will have 20 2700k & 8 6500k. lol 28 bulbs sounds crazy but I already have everything so I'm gonna go with what I got.

  6. I certainly don't see any harm in having full spectrum lighting during flowering. However, if possible working within your current set-up, I would say it would be better to have more 6500k's than 2700k bulbs running during vegging, and then have the opposite (more 2700k than 6500k) during flowering to more closely mimic the change in the natural lighting spectrum that occurs over the course of an outdoor season.

For example, let's say you have space for ten bulbs in your set-up. I'd try to run maybe (6) of the 6500k and (4) of the 2700k during vegging. Then use (6) of the 2700k and (4) of the 6500k during flowering, just as an idea.

I'm sure you'll get some varying opinions on this so you'll be able to draw your own conclusion as to what works and makes sense for you.

    Peace and :smoke:

  7. right now I have 10 6500k's for veg, around 225 watts.

See, this starts to raise questions in my mind about how the whole "100w per plant" rule applies when talking about CFLs and whether it applies at all when talking about the equivalency between HPS/MH lighting and CFLs. If you follow that rule, then you're gonna need a lot more CFLs to carry through 10 un-sexed plants through vegging to flowering just to know what's gonna make it through (assuming you're discarding your males and keeping only females). But with adding a whole bunch of bulbs, I imagine you have a rig that is capable of holding only but so may bulbs and a space that will eventually run out of room.

I hate to say it, but it might be time to think about a lighting upgrade to a 400-600w MH/HPS system to get the most out of what will probably end up being 5-6 or more (hopefully :D) females out of the 10 seeds that have sprouted. IMHO, the CFLS work well for starting out seedlings and carrying a small number of plants through the veg stage of growth. But when we start getting past a coupla' plants, I think you get more out of an MH/HPS lighting rig in the long run, again IMVHO.

Hopefully we can get some more experienced growers to weigh in here, but it looks like as a grower's ambition grows, so must the tools to help those dreams turn into reality :smoke:. Not necessarily a bad thing since you get to buy new toys!

EDIT: I just re-read your first post in this thread, and if this isn't a permanent set-up, then maybe it's time to make it so, no? If not I understand, but then I would stick with all 6500k for vegging this time around, and as much 2700k you can get in there for flowering (just as long as it's more than the 6500k).

I agree about the hps man, I just don't have a place for it right now because once this grow is finished the lights will be coming down. I'm hoping to get a hps in the future when I can install intakes/exhaust and have a permanent setup....I'm just kinda using what I got. Once the seedlings get bigger I will be running atleast 400 watts.

  10. leao is right on with the ratios of the spectrums :) I do 3/4 6500 for veg and 3/4 2700 for flowering.

As for 100 watts per plant... its a real rough estimation. Depends how you grow the plants because depending on the dimensions of the plant you may need less then 100 or more. Just go with what you have until you feel its just not covering the girls well enough. Then go from there.

Glad to see you step back into the grow world killa!!! Gunna be a wild ride :D

  11. thanks myles, back I am!! I think the amount of lighting I have will be plenty because I'm going to LST and top the plants like my last grow, no trees in this garden. :D

  12. Glad your back growin again dude!!! I am pullin up a chair.... :D

    It Looks Great. .. Soon.. .. .. .. :D:D

  15. dammm... whats this ph perfect??? Never heard of an auto adjusting ph system. Imma hafta read up

  16. HPS would be nice but CFL's get the job done and are a hell of alot easier to keep the temps down within reason. Killa's pineapple grow is what helped me make up my mind on going CFL for now until I have an entire room to grow my crop in. At that point I will have the equipment August has but I will be running atleast half hydro.

  17. I can provide sprout porn, no bud porn here. You should just crack your jars and let the good times roll. :D

  18. sprout porn  too funny
