Re: MY FIRST BEGGINERS GROW JOURNAL-PICS, I need help from seed to harvest!

your right sunminz, one of the guys is really stretchin compared to the other one.

I adjusted the lights and gave them more cord length in the box so i could get them as close as possible as far as the magnets go.

So light is close as possible, and you said I should pile up some soil around its root?

Any ideas where I could find a small fan?

Or if you look at my pic above, I can cut off a ring around the black pots that would leave a lil gap open to the fan right next to them?

or should i go find a small fan to stick in there.

At the pace its goin, that tall guy looks like he could reachin up pretty high.

but i like the suggestions, thanks guys

Ya dood you can buy one of those desk fans that are like 3-4 inches at walmart or something and stick that in there. The fan doesnt have to be all directly over the plants, just to get some air circulation and so the plants are wiggling from the air blowing on them (makes stems strong).

You can mound up the dirt like how you would go to the beach or something and stick your foot in the sand and cover it up to your ankles using the surrounding sand.

Also if you want to get your plants closer to the lights you can also stack something like dvd's or cd's on the bottom of your pots.

Re: MY FIRST BEGGINERS GROW JOURNAL-PICS, I need help from seed to harvest!

Alright sounds good,

I gotta a trip to walmart for the small desk fan as well as some mylar material to line the pc case for better reflection.

that sounds like a good thing, getting the plants strong.

i dont think I need to stack the pots, the light is litterally right above it but made sure it wouldn't touch.

thanks man

Re: MY FIRST BEGGINERS GROW JOURNAL-PICS, I need help from seed to harvest!

okedokee

so walmart didnt have a desk fan nor mylar material...

For now I cut a piece of the pot off so that the fan is now hitting the sprout. I am going to find a small fan soon, but thatll do for now. (check out the pics)

As for reflective material im just gonna use the shiny side of tinfoil? Is that cool?

Heres an update of my two babies. One is getting tall and lookin great while the other one is lookin a little skimpy. Its leaves arent as green and one of leaves doesn't have the fine edges like the other one does.

Is this ok? Am i doing something wrong?

as for watering im just stickin my finger about an inch deep in the soil, and if its really dry I water it by spritzin water around the base of the sprout.

Is all of this ok?
here the pics

Let me know what you guys think

Re: MY FIRST BEGGINERS GROW JOURNAL-PICS, I need help from seed to harvest!

If you stick you finger in and its dry, water the thing really well until it drains from the bottom of the pot. Mj needs its dry periods and wet periods.

Also tinfoil is supposed to be bad because it causes hotspots, I would just use something that is flat white to reflect the light or buy those windshield sun reflectors at walmart and use that instead. You can also use the space blanket which I believe might be mylar.

Re: MY FIRST BEGGINERS GROW JOURNAL-PICS, I need help from seed to harvest!

Im really stuck on this whole watering thing.

Im being told that over watering is a bad mistake that many beginners make.

Than im being told to stick my finger an itch in and water it if its really dry.

First, when i water it im talkin about 5-6 spritz of water around the base of the sprout. I feel like that water drys up within 12 hrs. or is that just me.

should i start pourin water in around the base as to spritzin?

or

am I falling into the common mistake of over watering it?

Im just a little worried cause if you guys check out the pics above, I got one guy lookin awesome another lookin kinda skimpy. Is the skimpy one because of too much water? too little water?

or

am i just freakin out for no reason and that guy is totally fine?

let me know
thanks guys

Re: MY FIRST BEGGINERS GROW JOURNAL-PICS, I need help from seed to harvest!

Okay, so you're really too worried about your children here. They'll be fine.

I suggest you start watering by pouring water into the soil around the root stem. Use maybe 12 to 16 ounces of water if the planter feels VERY light. If no water drains out lift the planter and feel how much heavier it is now. This will give you a baseline to start working off of. Just pick up the planters every day, and when they feel VERY light again toss in a few more ounces of water.

As far as one seedling being farther along than the other it can be a myriad of things. From being buried just a little deeper, to some stress when transplanted, to just having a harder time rooting in one soil over another. Wait until they hit 3 weeks or so before making any judgements but runts happen with plants too.

Also, the larger plant looks like it has a little browning at the end of the leaves. This is caused early in a seedlings life by having the lights too close or the temperature too high. The plant cannot transport enough water from its roots to the leaf edges in order to transpire enough to cool the plant. At this point it's damage done and a lesson learned, next time allow the seedling to get a little more established before pushing the lights as close as you did.

watup.jpg

how we lookin?

The big guy started leaning really far forward toward the light on the wall so i turned the pot around and gently proped up dirt by the stem to keep it more pointed upward

They look good. Don't worry about the spots on the leaves unless they start getting bigger.

Re: MY FIRST BEGGINERS GROW JOURNAL-PICS, I need help from seed to harvest!

Seems like it's going alright. Yea I wouldn't worry bout the brown too much youve been using the same water throughout no? If yes then I doubt it's a ph prob. If u can tho it would be good to get a ph test.
My guess is a little burn from the lights

gl

edit: by the way how old are your plants?

Re: MY FIRST BEGGINERS GROW JOURNAL-PICS, I need help from seed to harvest!

Mr. A

I have pH strips, i just dont know how to check them. So you say next time I water them and the water sinks down to the bottom, and leaks out into the saucer i should stick the pH strp in there and i want it to be somewhere between 6.4-6.8?

Narob

Ya i feel the lights were a little close before and Ive now moved them to the top of the case.

When first starting i was spritizing them with water, but Ive now moved to the steady 14-16 oz of water every 3-4 days.

I planted these each on Oct. 18.

thanks
