Re: Easy Ryder - First Ever Grow

Hey momo, It's been lovely to read about your first experiences growing. The first time is always a bit of a learning curve! The plants are looking good, depending on how long you left the temperatures too high they should recover. but prolonged high temperatures will result in light airy buds instead of the dense heavy buds you want.
I've literally just planted 16 ER in a 1.2x1.2m tray. never grown an auto before but am very impressed by the look of yours. props for gettin such a good result in your 1st attempt. You must be a natural.

Re: Easy Ryder - First Ever Grow

Cheers for the support Mystic and Ruthless.

Mystic you're probably right, I get way too self crytical and like you say these weeds can take a lot of punishment. It's week 5 now so I still have a good 4-5 weeks left of flowering and for the buds to thicken up. All in all they all look pretty healthy compared to a lot of plants ive seen.

Got my temps down to 28-30 now and I have noticed that within a day they seem to have thickened up on the bud sites and even grown vertically a little in the space of 24 hours so they are reaching for 20 inches now. Plus the driest plant has now seemed to kick out a lot more of those sugar? leaves that come from the middle of the flowering sites. I definitley think the heat was my problem. Remember me posting earlier on that they had maxed out in height? well I think that was just the high temps making them shut down growth.

I think it had only been about 3-5 days of higher than expected temps and even then they were probably not brownie cooking high Feeling more confident now, hopefully just delayed the grow by a few days, with plenty of molasses and bloom nutes over the 4 weeks, as well as the natural swelling of the calyx's I reckon I should still be OK....time will tell I guess!

Mystic - You must be getting real close yourself now, getting excited? Getting your scissors and harvesting gear ready?! lol

Ruthless - Thanks for the vote of confidence. I hate to be bigheaded but I think I've done a pretty good job for a first attempt at anything plant related. It really is a satisfying hobby as you get the sense of enjoyment of seeing something thrive while also knowing that the end product is mmmmmm I just love reading about all the different types of doobie, as a plant it's pretty damn interesting. With 16 ER's you should be supplied for a while are they feminised?

I'll try and get some pics up tomorrow, not much to see really but it's good to have a record. Need to get some food on the go and do some non weed related studying!

Thumbs up Re: Easy Ryder - First Ever Grow

Yeah they are feminised. I Bought 21 and germinated 16, all 16 germinated successfully. I'm going to do a bit of an experiment with the other 5. I'm fairly certain that if you can stress a plant into turning hermie and then let it pollinate itself, that's how they make feminised seeds. so considering the seeds cost me £125. it'd be nice to get some for free for the future.
But yeah mate as far as I can see from reading your thread your doing a sterling job and i'll be watching closely to see the outcome. The later pics have been a great help for me to get a reasonable idea of the scale of these little auto beauties! so thanx a lot, and keep up the good work

Re: Easy Ryder - First Ever Grow

Ruthless - Wow 16 easyryders, that's going to be some harvest! The hermie plan sounds good for getting a steady supply of seeds, I take it you're a fairly experienced grower? Got to admire the scale of things!

I seem to be back on track with my ER's, one is fattening up nicely and I the other two are getting there, I've managed to control my temps over the last few days and gave them a good dose of molasses and Biobizz bloom tonight to hopefully give them a welcome boost. I'm not sure but I think I have been perhaps a bit stingy with watering my plants so gave them a little extra tonight (around 2 litres each)

Any hints and tips are more than welcome.

Re: Easy Ryder - First Ever Grow

momo, I assume your count of days is from the start of flowering, and not from germination?

Re: Easy Ryder - First Ever Grow

Hey Hungry,

The count in days is from the day I first saw the first signs of shoots emerging from the mud (Tuesday 29th Sept) Start of grow diary summarised below;

Sunday - 27/09/2009 - Seeds germinated, added to grow pot and room at 6pm (20/4 started) watered lightly

Monday - 28/09/2009 - Watered light at 6pm

Tuesday - 29/09/2009 - Watered light at 2pm - signs of sprouting seedlings all 3. I.e Day 1

Think I got the first signs of flowering at around Day 16. This is an autoflower so I'm about on track, maybe a little ahead of schedule compared to other grows I've seen although I think I shut em down for a bit when my temps got too high a week or so ago. Back on track now though

Re: Easy Ryder - First Ever Grow

Hey momo,

Your plants are looking wonderful! Thanks for the photo update. And pushing 20" already--- this has all the makings of a great harvest. I knew your girls were in good hands... it's clear how much you care about your grow. You're going to love the next few weeks as your buds take off--- it's really something to behold, and oh so tantalizing (I am sooooo tempted to pluck one off and give it a go).

As for my LR2, I flushed it a couple days ago and the scissors are at the ready. It's at 62 days and for some reason I think it may go 70. New white hairs are still popping up and the trichomes don't have "mushroom heads" yet, and no signs of yellowing leaves either, so maybe another week.

The colas near the top are getting marginally fuller day by day, but the lower ones just aren't getting enough light so they really haven't changed in the past week. I'm curious to see what happens with those- some people chop the top buds first and let the bottom ones mature longer... maybe I'll give that a shot.

Ok take care-- I'm looking forward to the next update.

Re: Easy Ryder - First Ever Grow

Hey momo,

Bad news here-- looks like I've been hit by powdery mildew. The middle to top of the main cola was yellowing, which I figured meant the leaves were being sucked dry of nutrients, but closer inspection revealed some whitish growth inside-- yikes!

So I cut it off. Not sure there's much to be done at this point. There are chemical treatments and such but I don't think I want to get into that. There's a very slim chance that it won't spread, but from what I've been reading it's the kiss of death.

My guess is that several factors created conditions favorable to mildew: I flushed last week so maybe everything was wetter than usual. It rained the past couple of days so humidity was up- around 60%. The LR2 and the SLH are overcrowded which cuts down on air circulation. Temps have been lower recently so there hasn't been as much heat to dry out the moisture in the box.

Just thought I'd pass this info along for future reference. I'm disappointed but not distraught... these things happen and all I can do is learn from the experience so it doesn't happen again. The ER in the DR60 is already 3 weeks old so that's in the pipeline, and who knows, maybe the SLH with come through unscathed.

Hope things are rolling smoothly on your end. Stay strong

Re: Easy Ryder - First Ever Grow

Heya Mystic,

Gutting about the LR dude, commiserations...you seem fairly laid back about it which is good as you still have that ER on the go (looking nice and strong too) and you never know you might have caught the mildew before it spread to the SLH?

You moved them out of the DR60 which is good as I think the tents are quite good for maintaining a fairly sterile environment so your ER should be fine.

It's such a shame coz I can see some lovely trichs on that cola, no way you can salvage some for cannabutter or hash? How toxic is that mildewy stuff if ingested? Have you got any signs of mildew on the rest of the LR? If not why don't you just cut it now and start drying to get rid of any chance of mildew developing, at least you might get some and remove the chance of infecting the SLH.

My end is going fine, still battling with the temps, I'm confined to my bedroom so I can open all the other windows in the flat to bring the temps down! Sacrificing my comfort for the good of my babies, only 3-4 weeks to go I reckon. The one plants is definitley a couple days more mature with frosting becoming noticeable. The other two look less dense on the buds but probably have further to go too.

I'll get some more pics up on Tuesday probably, this is the most boring stage of the grow for me as there is not many dramatic changes day on day just the slow wait for maturity!

Good luck with the rest of the grow, I'll say a prayer for that cola before I go to bed;

RIP
