Re: Easy Ryder - First Ever Grow

Day 31 update;

Not really much to report, the buds seem to be getting slightly bigger I suppose, the plants all seem to have maxed out at about 18-19 inches tall which I guess is respectable for the size of pots I'm using.

Some pictures of the buds mainly.

This may sound like a silly question, but when do the buds really fill out? From what I've read it's the calyx's which swell and make the "bud" right? At the moment it just looks like a hairy beast, I presume all the calyx's are sitting below those hairs. I'm trying to get an idea of how it fills up e.t.c. Will all those separate hairy bud sites kind of merge together on the top cola as the grow nears the end?

Anyway pics below, enjoy!

Re: Easy Ryder - First Ever Grow

Hi momo,

You've got a real jungle growing in there-- nicely done. If memory serves (lost most of my grow documentation), my LR2 did a lot of flowering/budmaking from week 5 to 6, so my guess is that you're on the cusp of a growth spurt, when it seems like the calyxes start reproducing or colonizing the budsite (I know it doesn't actually work that way) and suddenly you've got a 6" bud where a flower used to be.

18"-19" seems extremely healthy at day 31-- keep on with that Waggle Dance with a splash of ketchup concoction you've got going and you're going to be a happy man in a few weeks.

Cheers to growing at home!

Re: Easy Ryder - First Ever Grow

LGM - You've got so many damn plants growing I can't tell which is which! lol Next time you update but a special close up of your ER on there for me You're going to have a hell of a lot of weed when those diesel ryders come through as well. How long do you reckon till you harvest some plants?

Mystic - lol, I will definitley keep going with the kechup waggle dance, moved them a round a bit tonight as the one in the left corner didn't look too impressive but when I had a good look all three are pretty good I reckon although one seems to be a couple of days ahead of the others.

Mystic have you chopped down your LR yet? You should definitley post some bud porn / harvest pics.

Home growing is the best, I can't wait for the next significant change which will hopefully be some trichome development which will turn it into a winter wonderland hopefully!

Cheers for the vote of confidence, take it easy.

M

For sure, that's not a problem. I'll actually do an update for ya right now. Each plant all individual like . The dieselryder won't stop growing and needs food anyways. come check it out in around 30 minutes or so

Re: Easy Ryder - First Ever Grow

Hey there momo,

Ha-- yes-- nothing says winter holiday quite like trichomes dancing all over a marijuana plant. Cheers to new traditions. Glad to hear things are running smoothly. That taller plant has been strong from the start.... I'm sure she's going to produce lots of tasty buds. Thanks for the pics-- it's always fun watching things unfold.

The LR2 is at day 57, the trichomes all seem clear, and JD says 9 weeks so I guess I'll wait a few more days. But I've only got a cheap 30x loupe (probably closer to 15x) so it's hard to get a good look. My buddy's going to bring over a better loupe tomorrow so we'll see what's what-- I prefer a heady high to couchlock so I don't want to wait too long.

Here's some pics-- there are about three 6" buds and about 9 smaller ones. They're not that big (see water bottle) but it's much more than I was expecting with this strain and CFLs so I'm thrilled.

Ok, guess I'll go down and rotate my plants and just, you know, stare at them for a while. They're a bit mesmerizing Stay loose.

Re: Easy Ryder - First Ever Grow

Mystic - That first picture is heaven. Although you've only got one plant going you've got some hefty looking buds there, I reckon you can get an O out of that easy. The frostiness from that top pic looks amazing, looks like a white widow or somthing.

I'm exactly the same as you, I prefer the uppy buzz type of high to the couchlock type. Hopefully with 3 plants I reckon that they will all mature at slightly different dates so I may let the maturist go until 20-30% amber and hopefully the others will be slightly less amber giving me a little bit of variation.

I still can't believe the size of that one lowryder, it looks bushy as hell. With CFL's I reckon you can be prooud of that...I've seen a lot worse in the grow diaries with CFL's. Sure you aint got your own secret recipe?!?

I love the way you describe just sitting there watching them, I do the exact same thing, I'll probably end up checking on them again before I go to bed. Sitting, smelling and daydreaming of the day they're ready.

When you cut that bad boy you're going to have to do a smoke report and harvest pics...it will be inspiration for my grow and keep me going for a few days!

Speak to you ltr mate.
M

Re: Easy Ryder - First Ever Grow

Day 33

Everything seems to be on track. I have noticed a few things with one of my plants, some of the lower fan leaves are quite droopy and some of the higher leaves are curling down like an upside down canoe and the leaves feel a little dry. This is the only plant which shows signs of some sort of nute problem on a few of its leaves as well. I say nute problem but I think it may be a PH problem as that is the only thing I can't measure and I have been fairly low on adding nutes in the past. Today I gave them all a watering but this time without any molasses to give them a break as I read this can lower the PH a fair bit.

I've also noticed that the earth feels fairly dry after only a few days now and so I am watering more regularly. I guess this makes sense as they are larger so are getting thirstier??

LGM - How often are you watering that easyryder of yours?? How much do you give them roughly?

I'm not overly concerned but I'll be keeping a close eye on that plant over the next few days, not sure whether its over or under watering or more complex like PH. The other two seem fine although some of the lower fan leaves are tunning yellow and dying but not at a dramatic rate yet. I presume this is normal as the plant kicks into the final flowering stages over the next 4-5 weeks and diverts it's energy to bud production??

Any help appreciated.

Re: Easy Ryder - First Ever Grow

Thanks for the positive vibes, momo. Anything that comes off this plant will be appreciated-- can't wait to give her a spin. As for secret recipes-- ha- there's really nothing out of the ordinary, except I do bus in monks every afternoon for a spirited session of Gregorian chanting. But I guess that's pretty standard, right?

Ah yes... sitting and daydreaming... you know I once went to a weekend meditation seminar, which by the way is required when you live in California and have a vegan girlfriend, and for the life of me I couldn't get into the proper "non-thinking" space. Though the instructor was full of wisdom and insight- his thing was "Be still and know", which I think is cool-- thoughts would intrude into the peaceful center of my being and pull me out of the moment.

But when I check on the plants, I experience something not unlike meditation. Maybe it's the combination of the lights and glistening buds (Ooooh... shiny.....) but I can sit there transfixed for long stretches and don't notice the time passing. And yeah, I know all about checking them before going to bed We are an amusing species.

Anyway, sorry for the rambling, this is what can happen when you type before coffee. I like your plan for harvesting at different maturities, it'll be interesting to see how the smoke varies and I'm looking forward to your smoke report. I'll keep you posted on LR2 harvest... and thanks also for the tip way back when on the brown bag drying method, I'm going to try that out too.

Enjoy the day.

Re: Easy Ryder - First Ever Grow

momo,

FWIW-- my LR2 started taking more water around your plant's age too, much more than the SLH in the same 5 gallon pot. I'd give them both about a gallon and the water would start streaming out of the SLH pot but only a trickle would come out of the LR2 pot. Now I'm giving the LR2 about 1.25 gallons every three days.

The SLH also had droopy bottom leaves recently and it seemed to be from underwatering. As someone advised, if you have good soil with proper drainage, it's hard to overwater-- the excess will just drain through. Not sure if any of this translates to your situation exactly, nor does it take into account any ph/nute issues, so hopefully some veteran growers will chime in.

These plants seem pretty hardy though so I'm sure it's not a big deal. Hope things get sorted out soon.

Hang loose.

Re: Easy Ryder - First Ever Grow

Hey Mystic,

Love the meditative stance, my wife is a buddhist so maybe some Karmic good is coming to me from a previous life as a monk or something?! lol

I think I may have found out what the problem is and I'm annoyed at myself for becoming complacement. Basically as the plants grew my hygrometer thingy remained at pot level and hence has been giving me misleading readings of low temps and high humidity. Today I hung it from the DR60 supports to get an accurate reading at the canopy and I got nearly 36 degrees C!!! and 0 humidity.

Thats why I'm thinking I've got canooeing leaves on one plant. I've raised the lights higher straight away and opened all the windows in the flat to get the temp of the air being sucked in down and hoping that helps a fair bit. Plus I've put the humidifier back in which I took out 3 days ago. Damn my stupidity. I just hope I have stunted their growth too much. I don't mind if it just delays the end harvest but I'm praying I haven't messed up the eventual yield with a rooky error like that, what do you reckon? Oh well these are the things I guess we learn as noobs!

I might have got a bit more growth than I have at the moment but I'm not really sure how long it's been like that cooking my plants! The other thing I hope doesn't happen is I get hemies or as I explain them to my wife (she's a Cambodian) ladyboys!

Fingers crossed the temps come down and I still end up with juicy buds.

Take it easy
M

Hey man, they are lookin good. It looks like for some reason our plants decided to grow along different paths, for some reason mine got taller than yours then kicked into autoflowering so i think i'm actually behind you in the flowering stages but my plant is bigger, so i guess i'll be waiting around for a few more weeks for my slightly bigger buds. .

ANYWAY. i mix up my watering, i like to make my easyryder think its in nature . i'll water it REALLY heavily and saturate the shit out of it with a really heavy (1/2 or 3/4 recommended) dose of Big Bloom, Flora grow, and B'cuzz root stimulant. I'll give each plant around 1/2 to 1 full gallon of that on the weekend. then a couple to a few smaller waterings (maybe a quart) throughout the following week of just plain Ph adjusted distilled H2o. It seems to be loving it , and the dieselryders enjoy it as well (up to 30 inches now).
for anyone else reading this, Your plants will need more / more frequent waterings as they get bigger so you might not want to add the midweek snacks until it gets larger

Re: Easy Ryder - First Ever Grow

Forgot to tell you MO. I had canoeing leaves as well. I stopped adding my root stimulant (potash) and they went away. not sure if it was a direct result or coincidence but it would be worth a try if your using any nutes with potash to lean back on them a bit.

Ok momo, I thought we went over this: You're not cooking brownies, you're growing Lowryders!

Just kidding. I'm sure your plants will recover and flourish. I've burned leaves, overnuted, underwatered, overwatered, even almost killed my plants at the beginning by putting them outside as seedlings, and they bounced back each time.

And don't even mention the H word or the L word. Think positive. Keep the faith. Floss daily.
