Hey Talia, thanks for joining in! The setup altogether from nothing to everything you see, and more that you don't (like the cloning tray, all the nutrients), wound up costing me roughly 1600-1800. I haven't tallied up the entire bill yet like I said I would.

Yeah, there's what appears to be 2 Blackberry plants in the one pot. The pots are 5-gallon buckets, and the plants will have only been in them for 3 months by the time they're harvested, so I'd have an additional two months to grow them with if you go by the 1 gallon per month of growth rule. I can always LST the one slightly smaller "plant" (it could always be a branch off the main plant that occurs under the soil, but I don't want to dig to find out!) so it grows horizontally and produces a bunch of colas. And because of the 1 gallon per month grow rule, there shouldn't be any worry about stunting of growth. I expect to get 2-3 O's per plant.

So here's the update. I have alot of new pictures of their first day in flower. They're getting ready to go to bed so I had to make it quick. I was working in the garden for about an hour today and managed to snap off these photos. You can see the updates I made from my earlier post:

First day of flower. Blackberry on right, G13 on left.

Digital hygrometers, the top monitors the top of the grow room where the air exhausts, and the bottom one monitors plant level.

This fan sucks air in from outside the tent via a hole, and blows that cool air in to the reflector hood to cool the bulb. It also keeps the air warm inside the tent, and keeps a fresh supply of air.

Same thing as above.

Thanks, man. I'm glad to have you along on my grow. I checked out your journal and thought it was very nice!

I'd like to tie some of the wires out of the way, and get some small clip-fans and a smaller floor fan that I can work with next time. There's a small list I've started on. I guess with every grow, you learn something new, on what to do better the next time. That's probably just as rewarding as the harvest!

Thanks for the compliments! I hope you'll stick around for harvest!

I've decided that in addition to the Fox Farms Tiger Bloom, I will also be adding 1 Tbsp. of Molasses per gallon of nute/water mix. That should really make the buds swell up!

Re: First Time Grower: G13 and Blackberry [with pictures]

Today is day 2 of flowering.

I woke up this morning and went and checked on my babies and it appears that the G13 plants have been infected with spider mites again. That's a problem that was too easy to fix. I took them out of the tent and in my tub, where they received a healthy dose of neem oil to the underside of all foliage, bottom to top!

I also re-arranged the plants in the grow tent. I have a G13 plant that is a couple inches taller than the other, so I moved her up front so I can get to her easier.

All the girls drank a gallon of water/Tiger Bloom mixture (4 tsp per Gallon). They had alot of excess in their trays, so I drained most of the excess water. I won't be watering them for another 3 or 4 days.

I also LST'd my two Blackberry plants to see what kind of results I can get from that. The Blackberry I have with two plants in one pot was the first. I just LST'd the one plant to the side of the pot. The bushy Blackberry already had a branch that I started to LST when I first got it, so that branch was too easy to LST. Check out the pics below.

Re: First Time Grower: G13 and Blackberry [with pictures]

Sorry about the huge pictures.

I replaced the zip ties with cotton twine. I also picked up some Grandma's molasses, so at the next feeding (2-4 days), they'll get a water/molasses only drink. I'm only using the Tiger Bloom every other feeding, but at every feeding they will get molasses, up until harvest.

Re: First Time Grower: G13 and Blackberry [with pictures]

High guys!

Today is day 3 of flowering and I did some general maintenance in the garden. On one of the Blackberry plants, I trimmed of some of the smaller branches that were near the bottom because they weren't getting enough light.

As I said yesterday, I replaced all the zip ties that I was LST'ing with and replaced those with cotton twine.

I removed most of the "solar panels" (what I call them), or the huge fan leaves. Alot of the undergrowth can soak up the "sun" now, especially the LST branches. I'd rather all the nutrients be going to the new growth and bud sites rather than those huge pointless leaves anyway.

There's also a shot of my clone dome. I'm trying to clone 4 each of Blackberry and G13, though I'm expecting some of the clones to die, which is fine, so long as I can continue them...

Here's some pics! Enjoy!

Re: First Time Grower: G13 and Blackberry [with pictures]

I just did some tent maintenance. I moved all of my wires out of the way, and lowered my light a little bit so the tops of the plants were barely touching the glass. Having said that, I've learned 1 lesson: next grow, I'll be using a parabolic hood instead to have much more growth space. Now that these girls are in flower, I need to spread them out so they can open up, but I keep finding myself having to cram all 4 of them under the light, or at least position them in such a way that light can reach the LST'd branches.

So there's one "lesson learned" so far: next time, use a parabolic reflector.

Re: First Time Grower: G13 and Blackberry [with pictures]

god, i can't wait to see how that blackberry comes out.

My feminized blackberry seed is under a CFL right now (it's a seedling).

As soon as my Gigabud is ready for harvest, I'm going to dry it out in a different room and transfer my blackberry to the bubble bucket.

Re: First Time Grower: G13 and Blackberry [with pictures]

As far as I can tell, I have two different phenoms. The one Blackberry that used to be a runt turned out to be a very healthy, vivacious, sativa-looking plant that would probably grow if I let her. The other Blackberry is very stout and bushy which looks like it will produce alot of smaller buds all over the place.

I'm quite interested to see how this turns out! I'm definitely going to try the cooler temperatures trick to see if I can make those nugs turn deep purple.

Re: First Time Grower: G13 and Blackberry [with pictures]

I just lifted the light about a foot off the plants. Usually I keep it right on the plants because of the lack of heat the light puts out. I want my plants to stretch out a little bit and produce big nugs!

I've noticed that when they were in the vegetative state, which was only a week ago, they were just above my knee level as I walked into the tent. Now, the light is at eye level, and the plants are at about waist level. They've grown ALOT!
