1st Time Grow: AF Diesel Ryder, Purple Wreck, using T5's and HPS

Hi All...
First time grower here from Texas, new to GC and all of this in general...After doing literally weeks of reading on GC and finally overcoming my fears about everything, I made and recieved and order for some seeds. My first order was for 2 Nirvana White Widow femenized, 5 Diesel Ryder mixed, and 4 Purple Wreck mixed...I chose to start the Diesel and the PW first...the lighting setup is pretty good I think, I built a small fixture that is holding 8 2 ft. T5 High Output bulbs, really seems to be putting out a nice amount of light. The Best news of all is as of about 7:00 PM tonight I have my first sprout, a little Diesel Ryder! I can't wait, I'm stoked about having smoke in just 8 or 10 weeks. Well I hope maybe this will be a decent journal for a noob, gonna try to take good pics and stuff...open to advice and suggestions of any kind, or questions...Thanks!

Well, like I said, I'm a noob, but I went with Fox Farms Ocean Forest upon recommendation from someone else who said they had grown DR...I figure I'll just stick with the Fox Farms Nute plan for now, I got a chart to follow with my purchase of the OF and a bottle of "Grow Big" for veg...I've heard good things about the Fox Farms products, I notice a lot of GC folks seem to swear by them...do you have any prefrences? You seem pretty excited! Good, this shits fun. Youre setup looks good, thats about the best light you can have for them. Whats the HPS you plan to use? Can you give some more information about your space and plan..

Thanks for checking out my grow, first off...best I can do right this minute is give you a good description of my space...check back with me this afternoon though and I'll snap some pics of the whole setup for you and post so you get better Idea of what I'm working with...the "space" itself is simply a hollowed out chest-of-drawers, roughly 4 feet tall, 2 1/2 feet wide, and maybe 1 1/2 feet deep. It was used for stealth purposes mainly, but as it is, it's not very stealthy right now, lol. But it can be very simply closed up and made to look like a normal piece of furniture if need be...the inside was painted with white paint, and my home-made t5 light fixture hangs above the plants. Now eventually, I guess I'll have to use this same box to flower, with my 150w HPS, which means I'll need to rig up something else to use as a place to store a mother and clones if I want to keep going, but I think I just found that about 30 minutes ago in my Grandma's garage, haha...it's another little chest with like 3 drawers, will gut it the same way as the other and should be the perfect little spot with some t5's inside it...sorry if I seem so excited or long-winded, clearly this has been a dream of mine for a long time, just like I'm sure it was for you guys too, but I'm glad you guys get a kick out of seeing me act so excited about it, it surely must hearken back memories of your first grow as well...Later!

if it weren't for these forums and grow journals, I may have never even tried, they've been an asset, to say the least. I was looking at Toast's grow and noticed right away he's growing hydro...I really was tempted to try that too, but I just wanted to keep it simple my first time, I know that dro can be finicky, and I just wanted a safe bet, you know? I hope he can work out his kinks though, he's got wierd strains I've never even heard of, should be interesting, thanks for joining, + rep

Okay, well, here's my entry for today...growing in this poorly ventilated closet is going to suck when it comes time to flower with the HPS, no temp issues with the t5's, just foresee a problem in the future with heat maybe...when I got up this morning to turn the plants on, I noticed another Diesel had poked up through the dirt, cool deal, so 2 lil sprouts so far, got a couple new pics, somebody was asking about the actual grow space itself, so here's a couple of decent pics...well, all good so far, will wat a couple of days or so to post again I guess as far as the journal goes, maybe post again when everybody sprouts...in the meantime, I'm still fielding all advice and questions, later for now...

High bud. It all looks really good. A sprout, that is exciting. I know when mine all sprouted I was very enticed by growing. I have the bud bug. LOL

Hey Everybody,
Bout time for a little update I guess, so here it is...first off though I want to say how cool everybody's been on this site, I'm thankful to have some new grow friends, because we all can probably relate to how bad you just want to talk to your friends about it but you know you cant, not worth it...I'm thankful to everybody who has responded, answered questions, and just been cool in general so far...well, today makes a week under the light for everybody, I started with 9 beans and managed to sprout 8, 4/4 on Purple Wreck, 4/5 on Diesel Ryder...I think I intially planted the beans too deep, and that may have been what caused me to lose the Diesel bean, oh well...sprouts seem to be thriving under the T5's, my home made fixture has twice as many bulbs as most T5 fixtures that size, lol maybe a little overkill, better to have too much than not enough I guess...still, I've got the light right on top of the sprouts, like about an inch of clearance, because the fixture burns so cool...anybody got any advice on nutes? I bought a bottle FF Grow Big, but I don't plan on using it until I feel the seedlings are a little bigger, at least another week? Any feedback is, as usual, much appreciated..enjoy the new pics...Later!

2 new pics of all the seeds I have now! I got my Attitude seeds this weekend, they are all femmed, plus the other WW beans I already had, and my attitude freebies (the DinaFem stuff). No new AF strains, but I expect all these to be fun and challenging! Taking votes on the 2 strains to start next, late...

Don't give up on that Ryder seed yet. While most seeds will 'pop' within two days to a week, sometimes they take longer. Cantharis, one of the old heads on this site, had a seed show after 28 days once!

I vote for the blue widow and pineapple express next round, just because they're both new to me, never even heard of 'em.
