WW 1st grow in Texas Heat

Hello grasscity
I'm a New member & 1st time post for 1st grow.
I've been reading online for a while & I think I'm ready to try this.
I just got my Nirvana WW feminized seeds today from Attitude. 9 days from order date.
I'll germinate these bad girls tonight.

My set up is....
Indoor 2nd bedroom, its Texas & my house stays 76-82 degrees during the summer
Stealth Hydro DWC with the 4 netpots, 2 air stones 1 pump. 2foot x 4foot 8 lamp T5 Flourescents
AV Micro bloom grow Nutes are in shipment.
I hope to move this to the garage in the winter, but Its just to freeking hot even inside the house.

I must admit my excitement about this project, and my reluctance, because I don't have anyone locally I trust enough to share this experience with, So y'all are my new grow buddies.
I know this will be trial & error for my first learning curve, so I'm prepared

Now my first questions:
I have 5 seeds, 4 net pots, but the reservoir is only 3.75 Gallons. Should I Germinate all 5 or less? Getting more seeds for the next grow is no problem. My thoughts are is it better to grow all 4 netpots or leave room for the roots by growing less?

THANKS

Re: WW 1st grow in Texas Heat

24 hours since putting the wet seeds to bed and they have popped!
( if Popped means the shell cracked & the root is starting to make its move)

100% germination!

Today I picked up the PH +/- and a TDS meter So every part of the puzzle is in place.
AV Nutes will be here in a week.

Tomorrow I'll put the babies into the rock wool & post pictures

Re: WW 1st grow in Texas Heat

More triple digit temps outside today
I put Seeds #1-3 in the rock wool & I'll give #4 a bit more time for the root to poke out.

Question: How long do I keep these covered & do I put them under any light?

Re: WW 1st grow in Texas Heat

S'up S'up

Day 5 (I think)

I have 3 healthy looking girls... and one that I think just wants to be fashionably late. Or maybe she'll be the runt of the litter. I expect her out tomorrow.

I have found out, that I may of over watered the wool. I think it will be fine as I can still see air pockets, but I'll let it dry out for a while now.

I have about an inch of the first root sticking out of the wool on the bottom. Which makes me wonder ...if its getting crushed or too wet, or any air down there. But the color of the three looks real good.

Hopefully I can put these in the Netpots this weekend.

OH & I love the Macro on my new Panasonic camera. you should see the raw files.

Re: WW 1st grow in Texas Heat

Not much going on here yet...
All are in Pots, Res is full of dist. H20, timer on 18hrs/day… Let the Veg Begin Target 2 weeks for Nutes?
Looking good so far........

OK, so I am using Distilled H20 and a PH kit with the drops that you put into a test Vial.(no meter) I tried to get the PH of the distH20 a little better and 4 drops of PH+ in one gallon threw it all out of wack, so I won't be adjusting PH on distH20 again.

I also switched the lamps around to using the 6500 only. I have a 8 lamp T5 with four 3200 & four 6500. right now I'm only using the inside 4 & will turn on everything for the flowering.

Re: WW 1st grow in Texas Heat

Meet Sarah on day 8 since germination
Sarah was the last to arrive at the party & now she is catching up on root growth
I went to sleep with no roots & wake up with a root in the H20!
PH level has risen so I added a few drops of PH-down

I need to get a PH meter as I already don't like the drops & PH color chart
If anyone has a PH meter they can recommend that isn't expensive let me know please.

Oh yea if you look thru the container you can See Danielle's root, its about 4-5 inches long.

Re: WW 1st grow in Texas Heat

Yesterday I picked up a digital PH meter. Good move for me as the colored vial test kit was close but no way accurate.
Anyway I now know I'm going to have a lot of trouble maintaining the PH and I haven't even started nutes yet. I can level out the PH in the moring & by afternoon 4:20pm its up between 7-8PH.

Now remember I have a 3.75 gal or 14.2L container with 4 babies in it.
I'm already wondering if I should order a 5 gal bucket system of some type before these get too big.

Nonetheless... it looks like I may be getting the second set of leaves any time now.
The plants are praire doggging right now.
You know .. how a praire dog sticks its head out just a little before jumping out!

Any input?
Next pics will be with new leave sets!

Re: WW 1st grow in Texas Heat

Hey there 77401,

I too am from Texas, South Texas. It's been 105 everyday here for a week until today, only 101 with a couple showers around.

You look to be doing pretty good so far. We are growing pretty much the same way, but I am not using rockwool, I am using Hydroton. I am also using 5 buckets. My journal is here:

http://forum.grasscity.com/indoor-gr...-grow-t5s.html

I am not getting much attention or advice here. Maybe I am expecting too much. I add coments everyday just to keep it up in the posts. I'm kind of disappointed with the responses, or lack thereof. Keep up the good work. I will try to keep track of you, not that I will be THAT much help. Maybe help each other.

TT

The wool was just for starting, the wool is in hydroton.

We are noobies & we have to read all over every forum & grow journal first. Which I pretty much have.

Then we just have to make GC online stoner friends, just like real life, almost, before we can get the help.
But everyone is good on here & only a few Egos. But remember we are stoners asking other stoners for help getting stoned. Its kinda funny!

I'll keep an eye on your grow & you can keep an eye on mine. Besides its now 6:20 gotta go....

I figured out the hydroton on second look when you intro-ed Sarah, I believe.

I guess it is kind of like "the blind leading the blind"...a stoner asking a stoner for getting stoned help...LOL

Re: WW 1st grow in Texas Heat

Hi 77401, just a few questions, to see if i can help you out.
Did you rinse the rockwool under the tap to rinse out the lime particals?
Did you soak the rockwool in ph5.0 water (for at least a few hours) before putting the seed/seedling into it?
Where is the level of water, (from the bottom of the net pots)?
Is your res totally light tight/proof?
What is your pH level today?

That system is too small for 4 plants. If you have the room, you should invest in a 4 bubbler bucket system (or make one). But theres plenty of time yet.

Re: WW 1st grow in Texas Heat

John, I knew you were good..... you caught me!

Did you rinse the rockwool under the tap to rinse out the lime particals? Nope
Did you soak the rockwool in ph5.0 water (for at least a few hours) before putting the seed/seedling into it? I rinsed it for a few maybe 5 Minutes... tap water
Where is the level of water, (from the bottom of the net pots)? Accoring to manufacture instructions, 1" into thebottom of pot
Is your res totally light tight/proof? Yes,Foil tape
What is your pH level today? When I got home it was 7.? & I brought it to 5.7......BRB......now its 6.8
Big Sigh........

So I'm now seeing the reasons for the steps I omitted, or forgot, or Ignored
