| Re: WW 1st grow in Texas Heat
Looking good man. Just suck it up and get an HPS already. Vent the heat away from the plants. Get a hood with flow through like mine. Bring the air in from somewhere else and exhaust it to somewhere else and it will only make the temps climb a bit. Have one or more fans under it blowing up at it to. Make sure you get one with a digital ballast to it will run cooler and more efficiently. Try to put the ballast away from plants to they usually come with a 15 foot power cord. Also you can probably get a HID that is interchangable with a MH bulb as well. My ballast never gets to hot to hold your hand on it. It has 2 cooling fans built into it. I have that same 8 bulb t5 you do. That thing puts off quite a bit of heat. Unlike an enclosed vented hood its harder to get rid of that heat. I can't wait till winter. My 1000 watt HPS will be helping to heat my home as well. I did some heat checks on the exhaust of my HID. Where I have a "T" in my ducting for basement heat dumping 12 feet from the light I got 80 degrees inside the duct on my temp gun. At the air inlets in my living room the gun was reading 70 degrees at one point and 72 degrees later in the day. Those 2 vents are 20 and 27 feet of ducting and have to pass through filter and HVCA unit. Which hasn't been running the last 2 days except for the fan. Barely broke 70 degrees the last 2 days. I almost wish I had a 400 watt MH in my cabnet instead of all the t5's. From what I understand and now after using a HID for a few days now I can see why they are king shizott.

Only reason I went with HPS for my flowering was because of the limited space, my 4' T5's wouldn't fit in the spot where I flowered. There is a grow out there by Hypeshot that was done totally under T5's and he had a very nice pull. Here's the link to his grow http://forum.grasscity.com/advanced-...atts-t5-4.html I will be trying to veg/flower in my other room with the t5's on future grows, it seems to do fine because you can keep the light so close to the plant. I just had some clip fans blowing the air straight across right below the lights and it kept it real cool. Anyways, as before, your plants look beautiful, the internodes are really nice and tight. I'll be keeping a lookout on it, keep up the good work! |

If I'm 6 weeks away from flowering then the room temps will be more managable by then.... Knowing me and having 6 weeks to think this over, I'll prolly be making the buy. And then its buying a vortex fan, I can always vent into the attic & take out a recessed can to route the hoses. Im getting a feeling this never ends......

Yeah, it does never end! I flowered under a 400w lumatek digital with cool tube and hortilux. I have one end of the tube just open in the tent and the other side of the tube venting outside of the tent with a 6" fan and the temps in the tent never get over 76. I'm just using passive intakes on the bottom of tent. With a cool tube or air cooled vent, it seems pretty easy to cool the HPS bulbs. Just make sure you don't veg too long for your room height, (unless your lst'ing, topping, etc.. ) because when you get them under a strong light in those big 5 gallon buckets, they will get big very quickly. Rumple had posted a link for a lumatek digital with a cool tube ( or other air cooled hood ) for a very low price, I used that link that he had posted, it was a very good deal. Maybe you can look back through his thread and find it. I think it was from maryland hydro, but not sure. Anyways, keep up the good work, your going to get a nice haul from those big buckets!!

| Re: WW 1st grow in Texas Heat I wish I had more time, I could really get crazy with this, except its a lonely hobby, I refuse to tell anyone or trust any of my best friends with my grow. Everyone has loose lips, and this makes good bar talk. I don't want to get jacked or worse busted Quote:
Let me see how this first grow goes before I put more $$ out doing this.

| Re: WW 1st grow in Texas Heat Update Day 27 Not much going on but I like to keep updates & pictures current so I/we can compare different strains, nutes, methods, etc. I'm real impressed with the BB's set up thanks to Rumpleforeskin, I have no leaks since I sealed the pump with GOOP. Everything looks clean and good and growing well to the best of my FTG(first time grow) knowledge. Big picture is today. Smaller attached pictures are problems with leaves I found once I had room to see what was going on. Do any of you see anything I should be alarmed with? I think the little white spots & leaves burning or drying up are the early fan leaves. I had problems keeping PH managed earlier. All the new growth looks fine. |

Damn those look great. Very bushy and low profile. You're right too keep it too yourself. You don't want even your friends to know. If you ever got in a fight they have that on you just not worth it. Live in Texas too Always love to see how my fellow Texans are growing.

It Sucks! I'd love to tell my BFF's, but I just know, they'd mention it in passing to someone. Next thing I know, my grow goes from 4 little plants, to a huge factory grow and I get Jacked by a total stranger or Johnny Law. I'm looking forward ( 3+months) to the harvest party where I can pull out the freshest buds any of these guys have ever seen and making up a lie as to where I got them.....LOL
