DM's perpetual soil project - Nirvana's Bubblelicious

Let's get right into it, shall we? I have changed / improved my setup from the last run of Bubblelicious girls to include the following:
Lights: 1x100W MH (outdoor security light) for vegging, and 1x600W HPS for flowering. I recently purchased a 45" vertical reflector instead of the standard half-drum-shaped reflector that came with my light setup, and the heat dispersion is much more efficient with the vertical reflector. Before, I needed at least a 20-24" buffer between the top of the plants and my light; whereas now I have the bulb approx. 12" from the top of the plants where the temps are between 60-65F! Plus, the vertical reflector seems to allow light to reach the outer edges of the plants much more than with the previous reflector. Hopefully this translates to more uniform growth.
Cooling: 1xSoleusAir 12,000 BTU portable air conditioner w/ dehumidifier and self-evaporating technology, so there's no need to drain it... The air flow out the front of this thing was coming mostly from the right side, so i closed off the left portion of the fan and attached a piece of ducting to the right side to better direct air flow.
PortableAC.jpg
Ventilation: 1x6" vortex in-line fan (465cfm) with an ActiveAir 50 carbon filter attached to it.
Exhaust.jpgCarbonFilter.jpg
Medium/Ferts: Fox Farm Ocean Forest seemed to be a popular choice, so I decided to try it and see what all the hype is about... No other medium added, just straight FFOF. During veg, I've been giving them Fox Farm Grow Big, and just started Fox Farm Big Bloom for flowering. I plan to use mollasses also, but I need to get to the store and buy some first.

The Ladies: I germed 5 Bubblelicious seeds and a single bagseed on Feb. 1st, and they were all above ground by Feb. 6th. Only 2 of the Bubblelicious were females, so I kept the strongest male and started flowering him and the bagseed right away (in a separate room from the 2 bub fems). The bagseed went hermie on me right away, so I killed it. I harvested some pollen from the male bub plant about 2 weeks ago and then killed it also. I started another bagseed in the beginning of March, which I knew would have heavy sativa tendencies based on the structure of the bud it came from. I am thinking that it's some form of mexican sativa, but I really have no idea. After 7 weeks of vegging it still hadn't shown its sex yet, so I put it under 12s for a few days and it is a girl!!! Hopefully it doesn't hermie on me like most other bagseeds, but I've come to expect it now. She has a beautiful sativa structure to her, so what the hell; might as well try right?

So I started flowering the 2 bub girls shortly after I killed their brother. Here they are after their first 12 hours of darkness; the one with the pink line over it looks like the last pheno I grew, and the purple line is the one which looks like it could be the true bubble gum pheno:
StartOf12s.jpgStartOf12s2.jpg
Yesterday was the first sign of a true "cluster," so I am calling today Day 2 of Flowering:
Day2Flower.jpgDay2Flower2.jpg
I have 10 clones total; 4 from the "pink" pheno and 6 from the "purple" pheno:
Clones1.jpgClones2.jpg

I plan to pollenate one of the girls later on in flowering so I can keep up my Bubblelicious seed stash, and I might even throw some on the Sativa girl when she gets older, but only if she doesn't hermie on me.
I'm also planning on harvesting every month, so I will be cycling in some of the clones into the flower chamber as we move along. I'm still vegging the sativa lady, probably for another 2 weeks just so she can expand her roots into her final home before switching to 12s. I'll bet that she's gonna flower for 3+ months, so she should be finishing up around the same time as the last set of clones (aug/sept).

I feel like I'm forgetting something... As usual.......... Oh well, peace and happy growing!
DM

Day 9 Flower

I have decided to be really creative and rename the two Bubblelicious phenotypes. The one I've grown before, which was "pink" in my first post, will now be Number 1... Can you guess what the other will be? I won't give it away, for those who hate spoilers.

Here's Number 1. Her bud sites are slightly bigger than the other's already, but the hairs are generally shorter than those on Number 2.
Number 1.jpgNumber 1-1.jpgNumber 1-2.jpg

Number 2, which I'm hoping is the bubble gum phenotype, is also doing well. I've started using FF Big Bloom ferts at a rate of 1/8th cup per gallon of water (about 4tbsp). No signs of stress yet, so I will maintain this level for a while.
Number 2.jpgNumber 2-1.jpgNumber 2-2.jpg

I just put lady sativa in the flowering room for good tonight, so she should be starting in a week or two.
Sativa.jpg

And here's all of 'em under the ufo-looking reflector... LoL Starting to smell a little more each day.
LightsOutWithFlash1.jpgLightsOutWithFlash2.jpg

Aaaaaaaand... the kids.

Thanks for dropping by; I'm always open to questions / comments, so smoke 'em if you got 'em.
Peace All

Re: DM's perpetual soil project - Nirvana's Bubblelicious

Thanks bud, it's good to be back in the swing of things again... It seems like there are a lot more active threads here compared with just December of last year; hard to keep up.

Everything is going well in the flower room, with one exception. The humidity in the last week has gone up to 60-65%, when it was sitting at 30-40% for the first few weeks of operation. I had the AC unit and exhaust running from day one, so it's not like introducing AC caused it... The temperatures outside have been generally warmer in the last week, and I'm noticing small amounts of condensation on the AC unit. Other than that, everything's running smoothly.

Grassy-ass... Unfortunately, all I have to smoke right now is some $100/oz greenery, so I will have to play the waiting game for another couple of months. This time I thought ahead, though, and left some of the lower branches in-tact for seed production and hold-me-over buds. Thanks for stopping by and happy growin!
Peace

Here's the Web site: LX-120 Soleus Portable Air Conditioner With a 12,000 True BTU Cooling Capacity - VALUE GROUND SHIPPING!

I haven't had any problems with mine, besides the direction of the airflow; it seems to only come out of the right-half of the cold air outlet. That's why I fashioned a ghetto-rigged piece to redirect and concentrate the air flow. Works like a charm! My 600W is within 10" of some of the tops, and there is no heat damage done to the plant what-so-ever. I have the air blowing directly over the top of the plants (not disturbing the tops, but just above them), then it circles back into the lower areas. It's good enough to keep constant temps between 68-72f.

Re: DM's perpetual soil project - Nirvana's Bubblelicious

Im running a wall unit to cool the whole room and i have two 600s like 8 inches from the tops and its 74 degrees....I want one of those Ac units for another grow in a tent i just started....I imagine this summer will eb hot here in cali...like always!

Hows that humidity doing?

you should be fine with it at 50% untill the last 4 weeks of 12/12....if it stays high you might want to add some fans or get a dehumidifyer.

Im an all organic all natural guy but Im thinking about using some fox farm shit and it looks like if you treat it right you can get good growth without burning...you have one of the few gardens I have seen without nute burn in the city....even the best growers try to push it and burn leaves and fry root systems!

Humidity is still up around 60% when I get home from work, so I've been raising the light and running the dehumidifier function on that SoleusAir. Brings it down to 40 RH before the lights go out at 1800. I might add a fan or two and see if that helps; thanks for the tip. The FFOF claims to be organic, but who knows if that's 100%... I'm still new to ferts, since I grew outdoors for 6 years and just let nature do its thing. Easy does it for me.

I was running the Soleus on HI, and the lamp was a little further away than it is now. The temps I have now (68-72) are from running the a/c on LOW at the coolest setting (61f). Maybe if I turn the fan up to MED and raise the temp to 65-67f, that will help reduce the humidity too? Something else to try... LoL

Re: DM's perpetual soil project - Nirvana's Bubblelicious

high temps like 75-85 during veg increase growth rates alot.....during flower Id say 75-80 would be better to keep thr growth up...high temps and humidity arent good together though...you might want to back off a little on the ac and try to be in the 70s at least....65 will make your buds purp though so its a personal choice.

these arent just personal pref either...these are facts

are you running co2? how are you getting fresh air?

I use the FFOF too...but not the nutes....
