Re: First grow: closet CFLs

no... I said I wanted to start LST shortly after 3rd leaf set. Flowering will be TBD but its looking like probably at least 7 weeks (total) before flowering.

Re: First grow: closet CFLs

So I know a lot of people are anti-fan leaf trimming, but I found that in trying to get my plant to grow in sort of circle, trimming the inner fan leafs is REALLY helping the inner bud sites and leaf sets to grow a lot easier without being in the shade of larger earlier fan leafs.

Re: First grow: closet CFLs

DISASTER!

I was away this weekend and got back today to find what I had feared would happen. My new fan hadn't been working out and my box had been overheating. When I got back it said 110F!!!

Obviously the leaves are crisped and turned upward severely. Many leaves crushed off when touched so I removed the most damages parts. Needless to say I watered the shit out of them.

Anyways, got my old fan in (in the picture) with a new installation and have the 4" HV fan inside the box creating a draft. It seems to be staying cool now, but I hope these plants recover.

EDIT: UPDATE

I took out the tin foil and finsihed rigging the fans. I replaced the tin foil with white posterboard glued to the walls. So far the temp has dropped like 10degrees. I think this box is too small for tinfoil.

The plants are already responding. I fimmed the sprout before this weekend but just now after 3 hours of rescuing them the tops have grown out noticeably. The bigger plant looks like its gulping the water up.

Tin foil blows ass dude. Your 100 times better off buying aluminum tape from home depot for like 8 bucks. Its amazingly reflective and you can see the difference right away.

I'd recommend reflectors around those bulbs as they seem to be wasting wattage.

Besides that It's lookin good.

goodluck.

Re: First grow: closet CFLs

Yeah Im trying to figure out how to mount some kind of reflector on the ceiling because the way the bulbs are in there it would be hard. Maybe ill take a pic next update to show what i mean.

In the meantime I trimmed a lot of the dead foliage and after watering they seem to be growing at the growth tips (many since I am LSTing) and the main chute is starting to come back too.

But now my plant looks like a chemo patient instead of all luscious
Oh well, other seedling is doing great after FIMMING, it faired much better in the heat.

Re: First grow: closet CFLs

nice grow dale have been following up on it hope to get some more pictures and how exactly did you trim your plants and stuff when they were dried up would be great to get some pictures as I am a visual learner. I am viewing this to learn for myself and hope to one day grow. As of now I live with my parents so I cannot do it safely. Glad to hear that you got your plants back to life and also I do think the temp is quite high I read 75 is ideal and yours was like in the 80-something and thats a lot...I have read that we humans can survive in varying temps but plants and animals have a harder time with the slightest change of a few degrees. Well GL and keep us update. Take care friend.

Re: First grow: closet CFLs

mine was 85F in the beginning and the plants were fine. When they were burnt it was over a weekend I was out of town and the thermometer said 105F when i got back!|!!! now that was hot enough to singe em...

Re: First grow: closet CFLs

I am glad that I met you in my thread...I am sure to learn a lot about growing from this. Also was a little confused with LSTing at first and have seen the diagram and now watching the actual plant it has been very helpful thanks. Would want to learn how to take care of a situation like yours when they over heated you cut off the curled up leaves or what? Plz do explain how you took care of it if you can thanks in advance.

Re: First grow: closet CFLs

I just used scissors to clip the leaves that were too fried to recover or those that were obviously hurting and at the same time blocking leaves that had started to regrow. Nothing more to it than that. It looks ugly but I wanted to be sure the new growth could get light/room

Those babies WILL come back! Herb is resilient! On the brighter side - at least you've learned something.

Re: First grow: closet CFLs

So the big one seems to be coming back from the burning very well. LST is continuing, I'm trying to figure out if its worth it to try to get it to grow in a circle. It seems like its gonna be very hard to get it to grow that way and the center of the pot is gonna be really really bunched.

Check out the LST in action the picture though

Re: First grow: closet CFLs

more of my LST, which is going very well.

later i will post pics of smaller, clearly more sativa (from dif seeds) plant that smells stronger and is 3 weeks younger

Here is my version. I used pipecleaners cuz I think its easier to get more control over the branches. Make sure you let the main chute grow upwards for a bit so its easier make it curve when you train it around the pot (if that is what you're doing).

I find its helpful to nip the inside bigger fan leaves to allow light to the inside growth sites after the plant curls around itself.

EDIT: The little plant is in there now. It is about an inch high. All none-main chute fan leaves have been trimmed to make bush up with just the new growth chutes.
