NL#5 - Old habits and new toys

Well, here we go. First grow in a while, almost 10 years. Let's hope it's like riding a bike eh.

EDIT: This new endeavour requires a bit of prefacing. But i'll try to keep it concise and to the point.

After many lengthy discussions with a good friend about the inconsistent "scene" in my area, i let fly that "i used to grow and you didn't even know". Needless to say, he was a little ticked that i hadn't told him all those years ago. "You were a party animal pal, it only took a few shots for you to start drawing treasure maps to blackbeards loot. Anything for a good story".

He was a typical showman with a desperate need for attention back then, a friend but not a Friend.

Anyways, he's grown up as have i. He has a wife and kids, i have time and a passion for horticulture. This is what we agreed upon. He'd provide the space and i'd provide..... well..... everything else. Wish me luck.

Started germinating 5 NL#5 seeds from HighGrade Seeds on Dec. 16 . All 5 sprouted within 24-48 hours. Used the paper towel method. Off to a good start.

So the first pics are located there and i don't want to double post them here, so check it out and come on back. The rest of the journal (what there is to this point) will either be here waiting, or in the Q stationed for upload.

Chapter II coming soon....... very soon...... like as long as it takes me to roll a J and puff for a bit to some Sam Cooke. And yes my good 'ol friend Sam, "a change is gonna come" I can smell it.

We all start growing for different reasons, but there remains one generic constant for most... good herb, strike that... Great herb. If nothing else, at least something better than what's on the block.

Back to the program.

I built a cab kinda like an old one i made.
Outside dimensions = 3' x 3' x 8.5' tall. It has a 1.5" thick partition 5' off the floor creating 2 separate chambers, one on top of the other.

Pics of cab will be available later in the grow.

The top chamber is roughly 3.5' tall for vegging and has a 400w MH in a CoolTube (independently cooled/sealed from grow). Ya.. i know..... it's tight. Real tight. But for the sake of expediting the process this decision was made. And it's worked great so far.

The bottom chamber has a 400w CMH and two 42w CFL's for supplemental lighting. Both chambers are exhausted by a single 4" 170cfm growbright inline fan through a carbon filter.

Intake"s", emphasis on the "s", alot. The Cab sits in a shop of sorts and there's a bunch of crap floating around in the air. I decided to create a positive pressure situation to help prevent crud from floating in the cab.

Ah. Young love. The feeling of great possibilities, new experiences....... and a fat estrogenical reality check that reminds you of the potential for catastrophe. There's only so much you can tell a guy about his drunken, socialite wife without throwing the PBR down and tradin' some punches.

Next time on the ricky ricard0 show, we'll see if we can telepathically grow these babies since i can't be there with them every day. I'll let you guys know how that goes. More = more choke..... must... find .. water.

- The enemy of my enemy is NOT my friend

Despite my best efforts, telepathy has proven to be less than successful (mental note > My powers of telepathy are NOT good for weed growing.... which is weird 'cause it usually works really good for most stuff).

Despite my friends best efforts, i have managed to affect a reasonable amount of control over the grow (* ie. It's my way or the highway from now on).

I swear, if this grow happens without his inbred wife finding out and ruining everything, i'll seriously re-evaluate the Friends i do any secret gardening with. I know, i know. The quickest way to lose a friend is to loan them money, or grow with them in my case. But my need to cultivate superceded my logical thought processes leading to a hasty decision that's fast becoming all kinds of sketchy.

Not the best pics. I was forced to rush things due to my presence not being welcome by his demon-hound of a woman. As i was leaving i swear she was chanting some kinda voodoo sh!t. Maybe it was just the bubblehash. I was super ripped.

Next time we'll be debating the finer points of telling your "friend" that you're taking your grow somewhere else. This is kinda like poking an angry dog with a stick.... not advised.

I'm sure if the situation degrades to that point, i'll use my diplomacy to defuse the potential human bomb. And if that doesn't work, i'll enforce an embargo on his ass and he'll be sad and sober except bar weed.... yuk.

*Note - But we love the highway, the freedom, the open air. Just a spec of dust in the expanse, nothing to weigh you down. So the highway it indeed may be.

EDIT: I have noticed slight differences in growth pattern and vigor suggesting the presence of more than one pheno and possibly 3 or 4.

Why oh why did i swallow that fly? These last few weeks have left me tired, weary and nervous to say the very least. Dragon Lady has pressed her poor, ignorant hubby into telling her the gig. GAME OVER ............ wait, i had an extra life.

I scored it a couple weeks ago, sensing the impending disaster. That's right, i got some skills. My new Friend is an on/off again ex and she's lookin' for the "on" again, so i'll teach her what she needs to know and make her my little weed nymph. Maybe, we'll see how it goes. Wish me luck.

Chapter IV will hopefully include some nicely forming nugs. I'm getting so used to all this moving about, i'm thinking there may be a market for this kind of service. I could call it G-moblie. You can guess what the "G" would be....Grow. LMAO.

BTW there was one male of the bunch. Thus the reason for 4 pics now instead of 5. I took a few snips of him and put them in water to finish flowering to catch their pollen.

Next time on the rick james show. Wait a second. I'm not Rick James Bitch. Full Melt + 2:30 AM + Major Move + New Journal = a very accomplished feeling and a sore back like you wouldn't believe. Not to mention the obvious mental impairment. Takin' care of that now Better hit that twice to make sure. Holy crap, seein' stars. Gotta crash. Peace GC.

Hey dude...I'm really excited with this grow. NL#5 is a CLASSIC, AWESOME strain! I'm so happy to see someone here growing it. My next go will hopefully be (if i can get the genetics) NL#5 and AK-47 (no auto).

Question: May sound dumb but what is a CMH light? Hear of HPS, MH, CFL's, all sorts of em...just don't know that one. Benefits and downsides? Like the supplemental CFL's also...the whole setup is pretty nice indeed.

Ya, the NL#5 was not my choice (i chose the Hindu Kush), but i've rescued them from certain disaster regardless of lineage.

Thanx for stoppin' by White_. Been way too long since i had a grow. Ended up helping a buddy with his Outdoor last year and got the itch. I'm still not able to be with them every day, but i have a feeling they're better off now than they were.

I'll throw together the next part of this thing in a week or so. Should be some decent nugs forming by then. They've been getting FF Tiger and Big Bloom with a little superthrive and Florablend tea for their meals every other watering. EC never above 7.5ish (350-525ish ppm). Between feedings they're getting plain 6.4 PH water with 1 tbsp. molasses. We'll see how it goes.

Anyways, I have grown NL#5 and Satori for all my smoking needs for over 2 years. The NL#5 has a VERY Neutral Smell,Yes??

Hey Kelvino Thanx for choosing ricard0 and G-Mobile for your cultivation viewing needs.

The NL does seem to be low odor compared to some of my old stink sticks. Although it is starting to stink a bit. I've got a decent carbon filter and some ONA, so i should be OK (crossing fingers).

I'm glad you enjoy the sarcasm/attitude (i'm not sure how subtle it is though) presented in my journal. I'm nothing if not an instigator..... ok, and kind of a jerk. I just can't leave well enough alone sometimes. But i've come to grips with that, i figure others can too.

God, or something close enough willing, i will see these through to the end and plan on posting the next chapter of this epic saga in a few days. It's got that "Grapes of Wrath" kinda feel-good thing goin' on. LMAO.

This is my star forward only because of her height. Was the first to bloom and has since been passed by in shot selection by some of the other girls.

From 0 to 60 in one plant. This is my Yield pick which also happens to be the "Dank pheno". Far and away the best plant so far (for this grow). Only difference was i topped this one about two weeks prior to 12/12. I started super-cropping about a week ago to prevent her from stretching too much. Seems to be working.

This is the one i thought looked kinda average. She stretched for the bulb one day and got a little sunburn. She's yet to impress me on any level. I hope the bitch smokes better than she basks. LOL.

In addition to the 4 NL#5 females blooming. There's also about 10 clones rooted from the girls and on their way to the veg cab soon. Out of 18 cuttings taken, i've had about 50% success so far after 3 weeks. Gonna start a new batch soon of some Purple Bag Seed. My least favorite Mum has proven the best breeder but i've got 4 of the "Shorty's" and 1 of the "Yield" clones rooted. Time to build a new home for the young mother-to-be.
