Re: NL#5 - Old habits and new toys

BTW: Open 400w Bulb at appx 8" from plant tops and they love it. Well one did get a little too close, obviously. I had to push her over to keep her from a repeat.
Close!!.jpg
Disclaimer: The Bulb is VERY HOT. DO NOT try this at home.

I'm Blushing

Hi leao, thanx for picking up the latest edition of the "Green Sheet".

I'm glad you're enjoying the read. It appears you are one of the minority. Judging by the replies vs. views, this thread seems easily avoided. Yes, i've been accused of being excessively verbose and/or long-winded... which i don't mind and freely admit. Iv'e been accused of worse. LOL.

Pulitzer though? Thanx for the compliment. But i feel i'm about as deserving of a literary award as Bush is meritorious of the Alfred Nobel Award. No "GC-Poet Laureate" here. LOL. Keep reading on GC and you'll find word-smith's-o-plenty. My boy Amoril can hack sentences with the best of them.

You like reading huh? Check out our little UVB discussion here ---> http://forum.grasscity.com/general-i...vb-lights.html in which i was more spectator than contributor. Just the latest brain-strain of a read i can think of.

I, personally, appreciate knowing that my fellow GC-Blades are adept in the written word. I guess i intentionally flavor my posts with a liberal amount of vocabulary to ward off any dine-and-dashers (kids) just here for the bud porn. Sorry, but signing onto one of my threads is often asking for a (mildly)-challenging read.

I'll be back with the next chapter in "The Buds of Wrath" sometime soon.

Peace GC.

Please don't think that people are avoiding your thread, my good man. I subscribed to this thread and I check on it quite frequently. And your particular writing style I find quite humorous.

Now if you'll excuse me while I hit the bong.

I've been using Fox Farm Grow Big for vegging and Tiger Bloom + Big Bloom for flowering. I started using GH Florablend organic/vegan tea with the meals about a week before switching to 12/12 and continue to use it for each meal.

Feedings are usually every other watering. In between Feedings, they've been getting 1 Tbsp. Molasses + Plain Water All feedings are around 350-550 ppm/.75ish EC with 75%RO/25%Well Water @ 6.3ish PH. There's Almost always a drop or two of Superthrive in the mix. Feeding or not. I tell myself it helps the girls deal with the stress of an imperfect environment.

Thank you....... i'll be here all week.

Thanx for chiming in supermiker, i was wondering why the baritone section seemed flat. LOL.

I didn't mean to come off as a whiner. Although i was about to call for the paddles to try and defib the wheezing thread back to life. Just my boring 'ol self-loathing self shining through. LOL.

And yes, my good man, i will excuse you to your devices.... but only if you excuse me to mine.

Re: NL#5 - Old habits and new toys

it was no snubbing on my part...I spend a lot of time in my garden, and a lot on GC as it is, so I usually try to skip over the grow journals for efficiency....and because the last thing I need is to start one myself, that would be a serious time sync that im barely able to talk myself out of lmao.

I dont know where to start...the star wars reference, supermike's booming voice, the smoking flight (which is good, cause I refuse to travel without smoking ...nay. Your blasphemy should not go unheralded. George W. Bush and the Alfred Nobel Peace Prize should never be mentioned in the same sentence. NEVER. unless one is pointing out the fact that they were in fact conjugated similarly, in which case it is required.

---

I didnt know you were using a CMH bulb. Im envious. just out of curiousity, do you know if your bulb is equipped with a UV filter/fade? I ask because if uncorrected, CMH will actually spit a ton of fire, so to speak...even if filtered, theres still a little UV gettin through

anyhow, im gonna subscribe, so as I can both continue my necessary avoidance of the journal section, and participate in your thread

Re: NL#5 - Old habits and new toys

Man, you must be a fellow night owl. I'm on the west coast and it's after 4:am.

I was just whining a bit, no guilt-trip intended. I didn't take it personally since i don't really know you. LOL. I don't frequent the journals as diligently as most, largely due to having my own proclivities to manage, all GC manors aside. I started one cause i felt obligated to share with those who helped.

So, i see my not-so-subtle references didn't go completely unappreciated. I'm just trying to keep it fresh. I hate the stale 'ol "your buds look awesome, you're gonna have a great harvest, blah baty blah, droll, blahzay, stupid question, blah blah acne teen pee plant.....crap. It's all just too much of the same 'ol steamy pile. Glad to know i didn't totally resend into the shadows of ambiguity. LOL.

If nothing else i'm hoping to inspire others to take a few more dips out of the word well. And to show folks that there's another way to deliver a point. Devoid of the disorienting acronym-ated <--(you know i love keep merriam webster on their toes) internet jargon. Not all of us grew up with a silver sim-card in our mouths and where i come from, english is the predominant language employed in successful communication.

That "W" comment didn't leave you all warm and fuzzy huh? LMAO. I thought it was a good way to tear myself down from the precipous i'd be lifted onto.

CMH. Yup. I like it. "Would you like to know more"? ---> http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=72215
Wait. You like reading...... right? Don't say i didn't warn you. LMAO

I think it puts out more UVB than MH or HPS but still not very much to speak of. I could be wrong but i think that's what i remember reading.

Thanx for joining the ranks, although don't feel obligated to come to every practice. This coach doesn't mind a thin roster as long as they're educated. LOL.
Now i just sound like a pr!ck. LOL>

Hey dude, I read the bulb spectrum, and I still don't like # 1, as your supposed to get away, from High Blue, High Green, well it looks more like a full spectrum bulb, used for mostly veg. I say, when I'm hitting 12/12, I lose my MH, Full Spectrum just because I don't wish to flourish in veg growth in, 12/12. And thats what the bulb suggests, so I'l stick with HPS Delux, by Sunmaster. 1000 watts of Orange, Red and Yellow, all spiked high, and the rest is around a quarter bar UP, against the 3 primary colourss.

Great read, Thank's and I'll talk with you laters...

Hey ricardo. Your plants are looking quite nice sir. Its quite interesting to see that CMH in use. Depending on how your grow goes, I may try to get ahold of one of those lamps. The specs are pretty neat on the other page you posted about. Good luck with the rest, I'll be watching.

The CMH is a 1st for me. I'm an old Blue & Orange boy myself. The space where the cab initially needed to go, was lacking in height. Heat was a big issue. One of the cool tubes i ordered was cracked. Took forever for the UPS claim/RMA thing to get taken care of. In fact, the replacement arrived just last week, 2/3's into the grow. CMH bulbs offer more than just a full spectrum. I've got the tops appx. 8" from an open bulb and i've never had an HPS that close without severe heat damage. The CMH simply throws the heat differently allowing for a tight canopy.

Now i have noticed the rather leafy traits of this grow, but that could be more of a genetic disposition than the influence of the bulb type. However, 1 day shy of 4 weeks in and roughly 3-4 weeks left, i already have one bud as big around as my wrist (i'm 6'5" & 240 lbs. - not small) still packing on the weight. But you're right, these bitches are bushy. I don't mind though, just more trim for the B-Bags.

The decisions governing the details of this grow have largely been beyond my complete control. It is what it is. These are all seed plants, and can tell me little in the way of environmental influences. I consider this grow more of a dialing in of the cab. Some factors can only be addressed after the project is in full swing.

I've got 12 rooted clones from three of the 4 NL#5's and 3 more trying to root. I gave up on three others showing no signs of roots after 3 weeks. The next round should give me more to go by in terms of comparative analysis. Then we'll see if the CMH is more of a reward.

Next update will be in about a week.

Thanx for droppin' by. Look forward to seein' ya 'round here soon. C'mon back now, ya hear.
BTW: Rumpleforeskin has plenty to say about bulb types, brands and results. If you're using MH and HPS, he recommends the cheapo's. Check his threads.

Re: NL#5 - Old habits and new toys

heh, I dont post over there much, but I do a lot of reading over on IC, so im very familiar with the CMH...thus the envy.

and youre pretty much dead on...its a LOT less heat than either MH or HPS, since it converts a much higher ratio of the energy into usable light. Now, a portion of this is in non-ideal spectrums (green notably), but the UV amounts are appreciable...

I saw one spectral analysis that showed down to 200nm, vs the 400nm cutoff that most show. the graph continues fairly steadily, until a sharp decrease around 280nm iirc, dont quote me on that, but the UV spectrum, and even the UVB, was moderately represented. Since youre using the 400w and not the 250 (or worse, pulse starts) youre going to at least have the equivalent of a reptile bulb or two I would think....

assuming you dont have the UV fade/filter, which is why I asked. You could always stick your hand under it for an hour, if you get a sunburn, then you know that you have the UVB emitting versions

Im doing the poor mans CMH right now...Ive got a similar spectrum, but it takes a total of 7 bulbs to achieve...how sad is that

I'll be honest. I didn't read that entire thread cover to cover. Way too fu@king long. I did gather enough to understand the overall benefit/s. However, my bulb is rated for an open fixture which may refer to the UV fade/filter.

I think i'll refrain from testing it as a tanning alternative though. LOL. I'll leave that kind of dedicated passion for fact to the likes of proteus. LMAO. Nothing personal 'ol proto, just crackin' on ya. <-- in case he shows up. LOL.
