DUMPSTER WEED! saved plant project/first grow

my friend threw away some plants that werent doing so amazing..
LUCKILY he dumped the plants out of the pots soil still intact so they werent dead! i took them home and spent next to nothing and used what i had..
both plants were lucky to be alive and had obvious issues. one survived
in the end put here are pics from the start

PS!!! notice in newer pics i took while in natural sunlight..
top leaves are so dark green they are almost blue/green?
and on fan leaves[in center where the leafs start/separate]
is purplish?? is this usual or did i get lucky?

my camera doesnt have much of a macro mode tho..
just high MP capabilites and a flower mode work best for me

Yo DJ, nice work on the plants there man. They're looking a lot better now that you've been able to give them the TLC they deserve. This just gives validity to the phrase "one man's trash is another man's treasure."

As for the purpling, I've read it could be attributed to many different things: Nitrogen deficiency, Phosphorous deficiency, Sulfur deficiency, cold temperatures at night, and just strain characteristics. If there are no other symptoms--like yellowing, drooping, or curling leaves--I would just write it off as characteristics of the strain. Just keep a check on them and make sure that nothing else alarming is going on with them.

Keep up the good work. I'll definitely be checking in on this thread more often.

i just bought a 4way soil analyzer [measures soil pH, moisture content, fertilizer content, and sunlight]

pretty neat for $20 and i bet will definatly pay off in having! still no hps yet.. =[

aah whered you get this!!! I need a ph meter and I cant find one.

also, would you be able to put that thing in water to measure the ph level of your water?

when your plants get really bushey..what leaves can you clip first?
i just feel like cutting a leaf off will reduce the energy the plant can produce to flower..
help plz?!

I think that's about how it goes. Each leaf is a source of energy for the budsites adjacent to it. Cutting off some leaves might help light get to the buds themselves, but it will also lower the energy available. Most of the time, I just see people doing LST for their plants to help the light penetrate.

According to Jorge Cervantes (a man I would trust with my garden):
"Leave leaves alone! Removal of healthy leaves hacks up a healthy plant. Removing large fan or shade leaves DOES NOT make plants more productive even though this practice supplies more light to small leaves and growing tips. Plants need all their leaves to produce the maximum amount of chlorophyll and food. Removing leaves slows chlorophyll production, stresses the plant, and stunts its growth. Remove only dead leaves or leaves that are more than 50 percent damaged." - Marijuana Horticulture, Jorge Cervantes, pp. 51 - 52.

Do with that what you'd like. heh Personally, I'd just stick with LST, though kinda late for that I think.
