Grow Journal 001 - White Widow (Blaze)

I've placed 10 plastic cups with a mix of seedling soil/potting soil mix.

Dropped a seed 1 inch into the middle of each container.

I sprayed 5 sprays from my bottle using tap water. pH was floating around 7.0-7.5

I have 4x40 watt florescents a few inches above the tops of the plastic cups.

This should be adequet light for the first 3 weeks until I put them under the 400 watt MH.

I plan on moving them to a grow box once they are 3 weeks old. I'm currently in the middle of construction as I type.

This is my first attempt at indoor growing. I've watch tons of videos and read lots of
books. But I know nothing compares to hands on experience.

I chose White Widow cause overall it seems relatively easier then some other strands to
grow. Also I've heard great reviews on the cannibis. I plan on trying out some ak-47,
Afghan, Maria Juana, New York Diesel, Supernova, Waikiki Queen, and maybe some Supergirl. I guess we'll see what the next project brings! But for now back to "The Widow"!

I'll check in about a 5-7 days from now with new pics and hopefully some more info to add to my first journal ever.

Right now I have them on 24/0 light and will do that for the next 3 weeks until vegetation. Room temp is between 61F-65F humidity 52%

January 25th, 2009 - Day Two, 24/0

No pictures today. Nothing to report really. I'm more concerned with putting together my 4x4x6 box for my veg/flowering.

I've been a bud lover for quite sometime and I'm happy to have my first official indoor grow. I'm nervous. So much can go wrong. But I keep telling myself it a weed, and weeds grow.

I've watched and read about everything in sight. I find myself reading all the threads all over these forums trying to pass time. Patients is the key. And of course having fun.

I have a 400 watt HPS/MH conversion kit, balast, reflector, the whole 9 yards.

Have to wait a week or so for my check to get in to finish my project.

I have a 4 inch inline fan 80 cfm. I plan on getting a 6 inch inline and using that for the intake.

Do you think the 4 inch is good enough on this small of a box? Got my DIY Carbon Filter almost ready as well.

January 26th, 2009 - Day Three, 24/0

No sprouts as of yet. I have increased the temp to 72F humidity in room is about 45%.

Although I'm keeping the soil moist by spraying two or three times a day.

I'm guessing I won't see any sprouts until around days 7-10. Just hope to see some more then less pop up from this batch.

Wait for #3 week and then use the MH. Nooooo. Try beginning of week 2. Just raise the light up near 2 feet, Then lower each passing day, by around 1-2 inches, until it gets to your plants, hovering at around 1 foot. Make sure you test your MH, each time you lower it. If the MH, starts to burn your hand, in front of your top foliage, it's too close.

Thx for the words of wisdom WWM. We have no sprouts yet, but patients is a virtue.

I'm not a patient person, but this indoor growing makes you become one.

I'm still making optimal designs for my 4x4 grow box. I'm trying to think weather or not to go 5 or 6 foot on the height. I have only a 400 watt HPS/MH conversion system. I don't plan on getting anything higher atm. I also have a hydro system on it's way to add into it as well.

So many plans and ideas, so little money and time.

January 28th, 2009 - Day Five, 24/0

Houston we have lift off!

This morning we have 5 heads showing.

From left to right, top to bottom we have S1,S4,S6,S7, and S10 is just now breaking through.

Late last night I noticed 4 of them creepin up, and today S10 decided it was time to break on through to the otherside.

With 50% success as of now I can only hope a few more will show up soon. I'd like to get atleast 4 strong fems out of this batch. Knowing my luck I got 5 strong boys as we speak. LOL, keep the faith right.

Well I'm happy, I boosted the temp in the room between 77-80F Humidity went down to 35ish% but I'm keeping them misted and watered for the time being.
Still keeping Flo's directly over top of them about 2-3 inches for maximum lumens output.

I'm so excited.

I'm wondering if I'm going to top or fim any of these bad boys when the times right. Might have to see what WWM as to say about it. I'm looking to find a good mother out of the bunch. So I might stick with not doing any choppin this time around.

I have 5/10 showing heads right now. I was going to pic a mother out of this batch when the time is right. In doing so should I not fim or top any of these and just see which one straight grows the biggest and strongest.

I read DW's fim/topping tutorial and I was eager to try it in the future.

Anywho also when should I switch to MH two weeks from today or two weeks from the time I germinated? Please explain abit more.

5 days for 5 to appear in soil not to shabby. Feel free to pm me or hit me up in the journal.

Hey man, Off the top, From my experience, White Widow, prefers, NOT to be topped. It's already a lower yielding plant, so if topped, well you just might get less. Other strains that can handle it are, G13, Blueberry, Skunk ect.

As for your MH, try to wait 2-4 more day's, to allow the others to pop out. When you think that there is no more coming to see the light, move over immediatly. But, 4 day's, and place whatever is germed under the MH. Remember, Keep the light up higher, but also, keep the lamp moving down, as you don't want, to much " streching "


So, dude, just post here, I check you out through the day, Sometimes night, and perhaps some other grower might like to answer a question. Don't worry though, I got your back.

Widow, is KNOWN, to be, one of the harder ones to work with. It's an exotic strain, Oh well. Lets do it

January 28th, 2009 - Day Five, 24/0

Part II on this crazy grow day! Okay....FIRST

Another seed showed it's pretty head today! Which gives me a total of 6 coming up as we speak.

As for the other 4 I couldn't wait any longer. I lightly dug alittle soil off the top to see if they were coming. Sure enough they were rooting, BUT they were still pretty deep. I guess I might have planted them abit to far down.

Once again this is my first grow and inexperience peaked it's ugly head.

So what I did was put abit of loose seedling soil back on top of the 4 and then used the spray bottle to dampin things up abit.

I relabled and repositioned them accordingly.

SS1, SS2, SS3, SS4, SS5, SS6 - (Stands for Strong Seedling)

The four that did tap but are acting abit slow to pop their heads I labled as..

T1, T2, T3, T4 - (Cause they will have to be Terminators to survive)

I lined up the SS's on the back flo light, and brought the 4 weaklings up to the front light which hanges about an inch lower.

Hopefully tomorrow some if not all of the T's will sprout up. If so I'll give them about 3 days... Till pay day. And then put them under the new setup with the 400w MH.

Veg for a short while and then time to flower those beeeiotches.

Thx for the words WWM. Yeah I had some misinformation with the WW easy to grow.

As for them being short and bushy that's great for the area I'm working in. So I guess this will be my plant of choice. I love the way WW looks with the crystal glare to it. Makes my mouth water.

I've switched the lighting to 400w MH. It hangs about 11in above the tops of the plant heads.

As you can see in the pic below SS1-SS6 are in the middle directly under the light.
T1-T4 I have on the outskirts. They all have poped their tiny heads through.

I germinated with soil to find the stronger ones out of the bunch hence labeling them appropriately. I'm kinda stuck right now with building my box. I have to wait for this week end for my paycheck to finishing building my box. It's just eating at me that there are wasted lumens not reflecting off the walls of my mylar!

Anywho... I painted up the picture so it was self explanitory. I'm eagar to get these puppies growing.

I do have a few questions...

Is it possible to go from soil to hydro between repoting? Transplanting basically.

How many times a day should or a week should I water these babies? Right now I'm giving them a slip through the spray bottle 3 or 4 times a day. Making sure they stay moist. Drainage is working too.

I would wait, finish this in what it was, started, in. It CAN, be done, however, It would be best, to let them be for this round ( Then, death, I smoke ).

Water WW every 2nd day, in soil mix. Start now, ( 100 Ml, each, with 2 thirds, veg feed )
When they are transplanted, up the dose to, 2 third's, veg feed 250 ml, ( 1 cup ) A week later, up the dose to, 500 ml, ( 2 cups ) every 2nd day. Keep it going until you hit, 2 liters, per plant, with only 3 quarters veg feed.

We can talk about 12/12 feed, when we burn that bridge.

January 29th, 2009 - Day Six, 18/6

Part II - Man Down, I Repeat, MAN DOWN!!!

I burned T3, and T4. I'm almost certain T1, and T2 will die as well. They were to young and to close to the MH. Next time I'll put them under the flo a bit longer.

Good news is I raised the MH about 3 or 4in and watered them all with 100ml with proper ammount of nutes.

So every second day I'll make sure to water as needed.

I never expected 10/10 to show their heads, but they did. With 2 down and 8 left they are politically correct. Now lets hope the next few weeks go well, and hopefully more fems then males.

Also from this day forward how long should I veg these babies? Should I go by weeks or by measurements. I heard alot of people say WW should be 1ft before induction of flowering.

January 30th, 2009 - Day Seven, 18/6

Seven days from "Seed", Two days into "Veg".

We got 8 plants altogether, 6 of which are on schedule, two of which are 2 days behind.

SS1-SS6 are starting to show signs of new growth coming up from the middle.

I did water one of the plants last night he looked alittle thrist. This morning I did mist lightly with some water to keep them thriving for growth. The won't recieve any more water till tomorrow morning. At which time they will get 100ml of water with proper nutes.

I'm excited to see them expanding their wings a little bit. Only time will tell which one of these puppies becomes the mother of the bunch.

I'm wondering what I should do when I "think" i found the right one for motherhood. Do I reveg immediately? Do I wait a few weeks longer to see if she doesn't become over powered by another girl? I guess these are questions to be answered along the way.
