As of 12/01/2008 I'm 28 days into my first grow.

Hey guys. I'm about a month into my first grow. I wish I had started a journal here from the beginning, but will instead make a few post in this one to get it up to speed. First off though, what I'm working with.

Bagseed(from some random swag)
Growing in a box in a closet
Using 2 150w CFLs
Water when they need it (feel the soil, and have a moisture meter)
Soil: MG w/ slow released fertilizer (this was a HUGE mistake, MG = MJ MURDER)

In this first post I have included pics from the 1st week, and my initial set up. Originally I had put 2 sprouts in each pot and two in a little Tupperware cup for a total of 6 sprouts, and wasn't even growing in a box yet, was just growing in my closet. LOL, I don't know what I was thinking, but I killed 3 sprouts (2 by trying to move them out of the Tupperware.)

In this first post you'll see my initial set up, and also germinated seed to one week. At this point I could not see any nute burn, and was not aware that my soil was a major problem, nor was I aware that it was stunting my plants like crazy.

OK, in this second post I am including pics of my new set up, and days 8 - 21. These poor guys are nute burned bad. I posted some pics of them on the board, and had people tell me to flush them. I also got a PH tester, thermometer and humidity gauge during this time. PH tested at 7, temperature around 68, and humidity was around 30 during these pics. At this time, I only had the 2 plants, both in the same pot.

Re: As of 12/01/2008 I'm 28 days into my first grow.

This post covers days up to the 24th.

So I flushed my plants, and they THANKED me for it almost immediately. Before planting I planted a seed in my 2nd pot, in which everything else had died. I planted a new seed, because I was afraid my flushing may kill the plants, so the new one would be a back up. The new one, whom I'll call plant C from now on, was put in soil that I had already flushed after killing some sprouts in it. But more importantly is the dramatic improvement of my other plants. Less then a day after the flushing they both were looking much better. Remember, in the other pot I have 2 plants, we'll call the bushier one that was looking much bigger in my previous post, plant A, and the other one in the pot plant B.

The first pic shows plant B just 30 or so hours after the flush! The 2nd pic is also of plant B after about 2 days after the flush. Pics 3 - 5 are of plant A during the same time period of post-flush. The 6th pic shows Plant C at 5 days, and looking so much better than A and B did at one week since it's not being killed by MG's ferts.

Re: As of 12/01/2008 I'm 28 days into my first grow.

This post includes pics from the 28th day, which brings us up to date. One thing, I think the bag of seeds had more than one strain.....Plant C is looking very indica dom., plant A is looking bushy and indica, but plant B....is growing taller all of a sudden, and has more sativa looking leaves. The plants are doing better on a whole, but I do have some concerns. What do I do for ventilation? There are no vents in my closet. Currently I open the box when I'm home and have a circulating fan blowing in the closet for a few hours. I stil have some slight nute burn on plants A & B (guess I didn't burst all of those damn MG fert balls.) Also, I've noticed when checking on my plants, they will sometimes have water on them, when I have not watered them; it'll be just a spot or two like the size of a pencil eraser in diameter; what in the world does thta mean? Is it because of the low humidity, is it making the plants basicaly give off water? I've noticed my humidity has been steady climbing, and is around 50 now. Also, the two plants in one pot; I know it's a problem; but I'm scared to try to move one to another pot. I have no experience w/ plants and don't want to kill it. Any help would be appreciated, happy growing guys!

Yea, really bad burn. Well I had read that the calcium in tap water can turn leaves brown, so that's what I thought was happening, but after about 2 weeks, it was just clear something serious was wrong.

I've also noticed at times there will be a white little rock like thing on a leave, that brushes off. Any idea what that is???

Re: As of 12/01/2008 I'm 28 days into my first grow.

Day 31 for plants a & b, around day 17 for c. Def. going to have to repot as plant B is sky rocketing. It's def. a dif. strain, very sativa like, growing tall and non bushy. It's shot up like 3 inches the last few days, over a foot tall now; impossible to maintain optimal lighting w/ the two in the pot now.

Re: As of 12/01/2008 I'm 28 days into my first grow.

your going to have a hard time replanting plant b as the roots of the two plants have grown together. just a tip never plant two plants in the same pot. good luck with the transplant hope the plants don't die. but otherwise looks like a good grow for a first time and remember all organic is the best for beautiful buds

Now I'm scared to repot. Do you think I'm better off leaving them in the same pot for this grow instead of risking it? Will the two plants kill each other off if I leave them? I've added a light so that the lower one can still be close to one. Thanks.

Re: As of 12/01/2008 I'm 28 days into my first grow.

Normally I would't update just after one day of growth, but call me crazy, and I know I'm getting close to 5 weeks, but is that some preflowering I'm spotting on the more sativa like plant? I don't have enough exp. to know, so it may just be me being hopeful. Going to start adding some diluted nutes on the next watering regardless. The 3rd light seems to be helping the plants on a whole. I used a slightly dif. spectrum white light and the Sativa one is even bending towards it even though it has a light directly above it; interesting.

Oh, yea I know my setup for the 3rd light is ghetto. On my next grow I plan on doing 4 plants. 2 per box; will spend a lot more time planning that one out instead of just jumping into it.

Your best bet, if you want to save those two plants, is two repot into like a 8 or 10 gallon container to give them both enough root space. Im surprised one hasnt killed the other already. Trying to separate the roots would be nearly impossible at this point.

Looks good otherwise. Remember the 1 plant per pot rule next time man...!

And all look indica dominant to me

Will repot this weekend. After reading your post something just occurred to me.............if one is male and one is female........the yanking of the male may kill the female if the roots are so entwined. Damnit, this 1st grow has been humbling, fun, but humbling.

You can just chop it down and leave the stump there.... I'm not a soil guy so I don't know what the roots will do, as in if they will cause fungus or anything, but you don't have to rip the male out of the ground if it comes to that, just take some clippers to it
