Seus' First CFL Cab + Grow {White Widow + Hashberry}

Hi All...

I've been part of the forums here for a long time, waiting in anticipation for the correct time to start my first grow. My current grow area is this:


24" W x 15 1/4" D x 72" H

I'm looking to grow approx. 2-3 plants at a time in it, with the cloner above them. See this pic:





I have the mylar to attach to the cabinet itself as well. I purchased some CFL lights from the hardware store, but I want to get better ones from 1000bulbs.com. I also still need to purchase the carbon scrubber, a few of those carbon CFLs, and 3-4 120mm fans for circulation. I have approx. 45"-48" of grow space from the top of the grow bags to the bottom of the top shelf:



My shopping list to complete so far is:

- Lighting
- Fans
- Carbon Scrubber
- Light Reflectors
- Air Ionizor
- Nutes

I will be doing a rockwool to FoxFarm Ocean Forest. Do you guys think I should add perlite and vermiculite to the soil?

I should hopefully get the Fans, Light Reflectors, Ionizor and Nutes by tomorrow, with the Lighting and Carbon Scrubber showing up by next week. I'll post pics after prepping the area with the mylar and using my jigsaw to cut in the fan holes.

Just installed the mylar...kind of a pain in the ass to be honest...

Purchased:

(3) 65W - 6500K Full Spectrum
(4) 42W - 2700K
(2) 26W - 2700K
(3) 26W - 6400K Full Spectrum
(I bought extras of each in the event one went bad)


Along with (5) AC Powered 120mm fans and also a 120mm fan / carbon scrubber combo from ebay.

And I got (4) 10.5" Clamp on reflectors. I already have the holders for the other lights....so all in all I should have around 100-200W in this thing once it's all geared out.

All that's left after this is to install the fans and lights, and then I should be ready to go. I'll take more pictures once I get the fans and lights installed....

I like that cabnet alot how deep is that? if you play your cards right and it looks like you got a good hand you should have a phenominal grow I'll defanantly be watchin'

cabinet is 15 1/4" Deep...now that includes the door...which is only about 1/2" so overall internal depth is 14 3/4"...for $85 you just can't go wrong...they have a 30" wide version, but that was just a bit to big for my application. Not to mention it's 24" deep, which is too deep as well.....


As you can see from the pics, what it looks like with the Mylar up. I also added weather stripping to create a really nice seal between the door and the cabinet. This will help retain the moisture as well as smell and environmental conditions of the area. Next step is to get my lights setup as well as the fans to run it and see how hot it gets....my goal is to be right around 78 degrees.

I like the looks of this. I was lookin at those same type of enclosures before I settled on my current (and much cheaper) solution, heh.

I'm excited to see where this takes you. AS you may know, I'm on my first grow too. You're gonna have so much fun! Good luck!

I should also say that I've got the temp in the box to right about 75 degrees closed without any ventilation and without lights...i have 5 fans coming....and 1 carbon scrubber...i'll have one intake on the bottom...the carbon scrubber will put out the old air on top, with one extra fan blowing on the plants and the last two on the cloner area on top....should be very cool to see this all working! Can't wait!!

will do! ETA for lights and reflectors is 9/23-24. All areas are prepped and ready to go. I will start germinating the seeds today. I'll take pics of everything once I get the lights and reflectors installed.

Well I germinated (3) White Widow and (3) Hashberry Seeds. 1 Day later I have (2) White Widow and (3) Hashberry seeds that have broken the shell. Give it another day before I transplant them into the rockwool cubes. Here are photos of the day.

As you can see, I also installed the mylar in the clone area on top. I should hopefully have my Carbon Filter and Bigger lights today. I am currently searching for some T5 lighting setup that'll fit my space, currently I have 22.5" x 14.5" of available space above the clone area. The only ones that I've seen are about 1/2"-1" larger than my available space. For now I'm just going to use one of the reflectors I have coming for the space below and put one or two CFLs in it.

Your grow is looking great so far! Your plans and purchases related to your growbox are right on par.

Two questions:
1. Are you using computer fans and are you wiring them yourself?

2. What carbon filter did you purchase and how much did it cost (if you don't mind me asking)?

I wish I had accounted for a seperate cloning and/or veg area when I originally designed mine. Nicely done!

1) I actually purchased AC PC Fans (no need to try to make them work, since they are ready to be just plugged in). They were $20 a piece...are about 35 dBA when running. Just the sound of a quiet fan running. I got 5 of them. Between them and the carbon filter, I can quickly and quietly and cleanly circulate all of the air out of the grow space in less than 1 minute. So it's always clean fresh air. I have an ionizor and HEPA air cleaner coming that will be right where the intake is. So super clean fresh air in. On top of cleaning the general rooms air to remove any smell.

I will let you know how well it works once I receive it and install it. I get my lights and reflectors over the next day. So at that point I should have almost everything to complete this.

I put two of the White Widow seeds that had germinated into the rockwool cubes. Going to give the Hashberry seeds another day or two before putting them in rockwool. So far everything is going as planned. Although I'm preparing for the worst case scenario. I also need to go out and purchase a metal wire fencing to do the scrog method.
