ethyl alcohol, ethanol, CH3CHOH, or simply "alcohol" (the kind you drink and use as car fuel), is extremely volatile. Contrary to common belief, volatile means evaporating easily, not explosive, although most chemicals like ethyl alcohol are explosive and evaporate easily. My suggestion is to have the area above the container a very large space so the gas does not burn and explode.
as far as the oil being gooey, i would assume it is because there is not much more solvent, so the THC which has not evaporated is just collected in what little bits of alcohol are left. This is the same with say BHO hash oil, as butane, C4H10, is a hydrocarbon as well and evaporates out of the solution.
