I've recently acquired my MMJ recommendation and it's time to set up my grow! I've grown in soil as a kid, now I'm setting up a hydro tent. I only plan to supply myself with trees, I have no intent on distributing. I've read up on DWC, bubbleponics, aeroponics, drip method, ebb and flow, ebb and grow, flood table, bubble buckets, hybrid of multiple types, and so on. Being new to this method, I'm not sure which to pick. Can you guys please weigh in with the pros and cons of your experience with these types? Which would you recommend to a beginner?
My current hardware consists of:
Secret Jardins DR90 Twin tent which includes of two sections. The main compartment is about 3'x'3'x5.5'ish for flowering. I have two Blackstar 240w (80x3w) LEDs, and 6" HTG inline fan/carbon filter combo. The veg area has a 2'x8 bulb Hydrofarm t5 light and a 4" inline fan/carbon filter.
In the veg chamber I'll build a little aeroponic, or bubbleponic cloning tray. But the meat and potatoes will need to go in the flowering area.
Right now, I like the idea of a flood table about the size of the tent floor (3x3) because it will give me some diversity in placing my plants, and seems simple to operate and maintain. If it malfunctioned, the mess is contained. I don't like the overall height of that system, and I wonder if it would be deep enough to allow the root structure to grow. This leads me to consider an ebb and grow system which works with a similar principle, with each plant in it's own bucket, but the buckets can go right on the floor, and my nutrients/controller box can sit outside the tent. I'm leaning toward the latter. I'm very handy and DIY inclined (because I get satisfaction out of building something myself) I'd build my own controller box, and design the system.
Or should I go with one or two big homemade "Rubbermaid" type solutions?
Any input you can give would be appreciated. I'd like the system to be reliable, stable, help my plants grow fast/produce well, and simple to maintain.
Thank you in advance, I look forward to hearing the opinions from those of you who have already been through this phase, perhaps I can learn from your insight, and mistakes.
I'm really interested in your reasoning behind any recommendations, more than just a simple "DWC" type answer. If you'd be so kind as to include your rationale, I'd really appreciate it.
Cheers,
Past
