Thanks for looking. This is my second grow, the first one went better than expected. My problem is this: I have a few plants in an Ebb & Gro system, under 600 watt lights. Last grow was DWC with White Rhino. It turned out fantastic and I learned a lot. This time I decided to go with a few different strains, all heavy on the Indica side. The problem is that I was having water/ PH problems in the beginning so I waited on an RO system and I had some other delays and the plants sort of got away from me. Now they are about 5' tall in an 8' room. I topped them, just the normal way, a few weeks back. I have been trying to find some answers and didn't want to do anything drastic until I got some. I just switched them over to 12/12 a couple days ago. I figured if I didn't have an answer yet I may as well. I have been trying to find out if I could just cut off like the top half of the plant and go from there. Last time I started the 12/12 when they were about 14", NO THEY ARE 5 FOOT. Please help. If I can chop them do I need to put the other bulb back in and let them vegg for a week or so first or can I cut them at all? Too late to pinch them, bend them or tie them down. I started these from expensive seeds. I do have clones off these but don't want to go back that far. WHAT DO I DO???????????????????

I have the same problem. I topped early tho so its easier but start slowly bending the tops down about 8" below the top bud. Every day u can bend a lil more, BE CAREFUL and listen for cracking! The very tops will turn up over a day or two of light 1/2-1/2...hope this helps. It's workin for me :) mine look all kinds a crazy lol but healthy :D

Thanks, but I think it's too late for that. The tops are touching the light and I can only raise the light another foot or so.
I know the plants won't die, but I'm just wondering what the down fall would be ( maybe smaller yield ) if I trim a foot or so off the tops of the plants and switch it back to Veg for a week or so. It hasn't even been a week on 12/ 12 yet.

Mine were touching the light too and had no room to elevate lamp. Bending works as long as u do it a little at a time. They bend surprisingly well ;)

How do you do that exactly? Tie them down? I probably have 30 branches that I would need to do.

I had same issue I just started bending them over like opening the center and tied them down and actually had a better yield from so many budsites getting better light

First off homie. Lots of ppl including myself will tell you ya don't nerve most of you fan leaves. Do sum trimming but not the fans close to bud sites. The bud uses energy from them during night

An just use string of wtf u got to loosely tie around desired branch, whole plant whatever. I use thumb tacks to hold the string to the wall.

Slight correction. The "dark reaction" of the photosynthesis.cycle doesn't happen at night. It happens 24/7. It is called the dark cycle because it happens independantly weather or not there is light or not.

But yyes you are correct. Leaves store light energy in the form of starch. Starch is broken down as energy for the plant. If you trim your leaves you'll hurt your plants ability to grow. Its like putting a muzzle on your dog and wondering why he is starving to death

I was thinking of actually cutting the plants down from like 5 1/2 foot to maybe 3, branches and all, not just trimming leaves. It seems no one else (including me) has ever had this problem. I did no trimming on the last grow at all, just topped the plants once and switched them over at about 14". They came out great and got a great yield. Just frustrated that this one got away and took off so quick. I guess I will try to bend them and tie them, only solution I have other then chopping them in half or starting over with clones. SHIT

You can cut some down but don't go crazy. Think the general rule is to not trim more then 30% of the plant or it could hermaphrodite. I wouldn't procrastinate any longer, you haven't even gone through stretching yet. Best bet is to probably trim and the super crop.

If your really desperate and don't like any of those ideas, I have a long shot for you, what about trying to mount your lights onto the sides of your grow to influence a natural curve in the plant?

If your plant didn't need the fan leaves it wouldn't have them! Look at your fans as solar panels on a house. If you slowly remove a panel at a time pretty soon your gonna be in a house with no energy!

Top each branch again to give enough space to produce the flowers. This is not going to make a plant turn hermaphroditic by pruning tops off of branches. If they are already in the lights and just starting to flower you will not have enough room.

You don't have to go back to veg if you just switched the lights if your plant is bushy enough for you, just keep flowering. It will take a couple of weeks at 12/12 to start full flower initiation, the plants will add to the growth in the lower nodes as the flowers start to form. If you desire a more bushy plant, then wait a couple of weeks to start the 12/12 as the lower branches grow from the resulting topping.

Do not start stripping the fan leaves off the plant, this is just plain bad advice, but topping one more time will be ok if done soon. By allowing more room for the flowers to finish you can then tie the colas down as they get larger and heavier.

Never use this product on your MJ, this is a know carcinogen and has no place in the growing of MMJ. Don't be fooled by misleading ads by large fertilizer suppliers. Take a few minutes to see what these unscrupulous merchants will do for a buck.
