Two question for anyone with experience:

How bad will the pyrex tray full of canabinoid laden ISO stink like weed? I don't care about ISO smell, just the oily-res stank. I'm thinking of putting the tray in my shed.... but don't want stink pouring out for all to smell.

And what kind of stink levels will the oven at 200F for 15mintes produce? If I air out my kitchen/house after heating will I be able to get the smell 100% gone in a few hours with fans on and windows open? Will my oven take on a funny new smell after doing this? Will I need to scrub it out after to get the smell out?

In my experience the smell is only strongly of isopropyl, it will smell a bit like weed after putting it in the oven, but nothing unmanageable.

hmmm... so all you are doing is heating the iso hash? so you are talking about decarboxylation, not isomerization. im pretty sure the act of isomerizing hash is when you convert all the cannabidiol to thc. converting the thc-a to thc is just decarboxylating it. when you isomerize, you add HCL to a solution of hash/solvent and convert all cannabidiol to thc. since cannabidiol represents a large amount of the cannabinoids, this is very effective.

I'm making some of this with all of the little popcorn buds from my grow that were too small to bother drying, but too frosty to just all dump into butter (I have a shitload of trimmings for that, too). Can't wait

THC has a boiling point of 200°C (392°F). However before the THC boils, other parts of the oil evaporate and boil.

Here are some important temperatures:

At 21°C (70°F) - the most volatile terpenoids start to evaporate, lending a pungent odor to the air.

At 31°C (87°F) - the less volatile terpenoids start to evaporate, lending the air even more pungent odors.

At 39°C (102°F ) - virtually all of the terpenoids undergo evaporation fairly rapidly.

At 50°C (122°F) - THC-Acid decarboxylates as the water molecule held in the carbonate form evaporates. This activates the THC.

At 66°C (150°F) - Cannabidiol (CBD) melts and starts to evaporate.

At 185°C (365°F) - Cannibinol (CBN) boils.

At 200°C (392°F) - THC boils. Clear vapor from a vaporizer.

Oldskool...I made a rookie mistake, jumped the gun, and followed your process WITHOUT freezing the bud bits beforehand Right now the liquid is sitting in the pan, drying..so too late to fix.

How much does missing that first step hurt the end result?

I'm not completely sure but I think freezing it just makes the trichomes come off easier so there probably isn't much of a difference.

you are going to be fine. freezing your plant matter is an optimization, but not required.

So I've made a couple batches so far, about to try #2 right now. The first batch went from light blonde, just like the pics in the OP, but a day or 2 later it turned almost black and became pretty hard. It pretty much looks like little dark brown pop rocks lol. Still gets me high as fuck, but I'm wondering why it changed color/consistency. I'm thinking maybe just being exposed to air/light? I've kept the 2nd batch in a sealed little container in the freezer, just scraped it off the pyrex a few hours ago and already it's turning dark

So the heat makes the sample more potent, eh? Would a similar but gentler heating process also aid in curing harvested buds? I'm only asking because i know you grow very well =]

Yeah that's basically what curing is (but a bit different). Heating it just converts a bunch of CBD into THC which isn't necessarily a good thing for indica lovers. Eventually though THC degrades into CBN which makes it taste great and smoke smooth but reduces the strength of the high.

Now if you're using fresh and frozen bud you should use some cold ISO as well.
The water keeping cells rupture after being frozen and you should perform this procedure quickly after removing the bud from the fridge.
