OK GC so lately I have been feeling very strongly that my previous growing conditions were just no longer going to cut it for me. So I did some reading about grow boxes and decided to make my own. The problem was that Im not very smart when it comes to tools or cutting holes so I wanted to do something REALLY simple.

I started out with this rubbermaid container that is like a small dresser

I took all the shelves out and then used a box cutter to cut off the front cross bars (its nice working with it because its cause plastic). I Then started to cover the board on all sides with black foam board. (Its the stuff for art projects I guess)

I cut holes in the roof to add an power strip for my bulbs

Running the cords out of the back

Wired up a couple of pc fans and put them into place with some light traps

This was actually really easy and its doing the job I had to leave my girl for a few days and came back and she wasnt dead lol so that was a plus

That's a nice little idea. How tall is that?

Oh, and that LED lit PC fan is off during the night cycle, right?

Its almost exactly 2 feet tall... For my veg right now its on 24/0 but yeah I plan on having it off during my night cycle

This also brings about another question I had..I was thinking since it is so short. Would it be good for a scrog? And if so any help on how you would put one in with this kind of set up would be appreciated

Hey, some advice, go to wal-mart and get yourself some flat white spray paint and paint the inside of your box white as to help maximize reflectivity insdie the case.

Not if you went and bought white foam board ^.^

but with paint...yeah, about a day or so outside to let it dry completely and let the fumes disperse.

lol thats actually what I ended up doing because i had some left over from before. So now the middle layer is white. I also created a ledge for the fan to sit on the second level instead of the ground

Love it man, I am terrible at DIY but dont like the idea of an aerogarden grow.

A few questions:

You ran the power strip cord out the back, did you cut anything? Is that also where you put the fans in and just filled in the open space with light traps?

probably easy enough to add a charcoal filter for stealth? and scrog method to actually get results out of that tiny 'cab'.

I have only grown once, and it was outside in soil, looking to do an indoor stealth closet grow, in its own cab with fans and smell neutralizer. Are you worried about plastic as far as the heat from the bulbs? How did you hang the bulbs?

Thanks man for the idea and relative simplicity.

1) If you notice how the picture shows the crack that runs the height of the box I used tape to hold it to the ceiling then cut smaller foam board strips to fill in the spots for the cord and the two fans

2) Hopefully here in about a week when I find out the sex I will to another post showing what I did to the back of the cable and also how I plan to install the carbon filter. I've actually been racking my brain on how to put a scrog in the thing (any ideas anyone?) Ive been thinkin of something really simple like a table set over the pot with the holes and what not....just not sure what would be good to make it out of.

3)I actually never thought about the plastic getting to hot but I do have a small non-oscillating fan in there blowing mostly on the lights and somewhat on the plants. I can completely unscrew the bulb barehanded. All I did to hang the six bulbs was hook them up to y splitters and there is just enough room on the power strip to hold them all:hello:

Just to give you guys an idea of what the "final" product looks like. Hopefully since I have started flowering I will have to add a carbon filter soon

if you wanna scrog just get the netting and tie the corners to the posts like 8" or so above your soil.

lol haha no I only have one plant for the moment so I dont need two rooms...and Im in the process of building a more permanent home this summer. I actually had issues when I added the scrubber I didnt have enough CFM to clear it out so I just tape some dryer sheets to it every few days

Try these ... you can cut out all or some of the grid in the shelves.
I've used them in several applications from terrarium to treatment
or isolation area ... to grow boxes. You can easily adjust height and
width. Plus they are hella sturdy.
