Reflectors

I checked the stickies but couldn't find an answer. Anybody have a suggestion for cheap, readily available reflector material for cfl's? I'm handy enough to fabricate whatever I need to. I'm currently using aluminum foil and I'm not really too satisfied with it. I made all my fixtures from sockets, splitters, romex, and plug ends.

Re: Reflectors

Horizontally cut in half a 20 oz soda bottle or 2 litre bottle, spray paint the inside flat white. Attach.

Re: Reflectors

Awesome, I can handle that I assumed that a shiny metallic reflector was necessary. Does the paint need to be flat? I'm only asking because I already have plenty of gloss white spray paint on hand. Thanks for your help brudda!

Re: Reflectors

Hell, it just occured to me that I have a bunch of .024 guage 16" wide flat aluminum coil stock I can bend in my brake. It's glossy bright white but should work ok?

Re: Reflectors

You need to remember that CFL's dramatically lose intensity after only a few inches from the bulb. So the reflector you want will be less than 1 inch away from the side of the bulb not facing the plants which directs the light down.

Re: Reflectors

I've used a piece of this before. It's cheap and you can make more then one.

Re: Reflectors

Also, I don't know exactly how safe this is, but you can put mylar directly onto a cfl and it wont even begin to melt or burn it. I have a sheet drapped over my 2 105 watters right now and its working great for what I need. (Some branches got way too tall ;/ )
