My next project - Grow Box
I will be constructing a 4' x 4' x 6' grow box. Here is a list of supplies and how I plan on setting it up. Let me know what you think.
3 - 4x8 Boards cut into 6 - 4x4 Boards. 1 - 1000 Light [adequate] Length of Duct Work 1 - Exhaust Fan 1 - Oscillating Fan 1 - 4x4 pond liner 1 - Light Timer 1 - Trellis Net (if you want to do a sea of green) 1 - 25Ft Roll Mylar 2 - Door Hinges 1 - Hinge Door Lock 2x4 Lumber 4 - 4' 4 - 3'9" 4 - 3'5" 1 - Package of Adjustable Hooks (Light Yoyos) 1 - Box Screws (2" or longer) EDIT: Made the box 4'x4'x4', found a way to save some money and make it more proficient, Had to get a little more hardware but less lumber. I will definitely be sure to post pictures of assembly when I get this built and finished and definitely post a journal about what I do with it. Enjoy. Start with the frame. Take the four 6' lengths of 2x4 for my corners and attach four 4' lengths to the bottom and to the top to make a rectangle-cube frame (4'x4'x6'). Run one 4' length of 2x4 across the middle of the top of the box flat against it (to put the hooks on) Take one 4' length of 2x4 and run it across the bottom of the frame in the front approx. 2 feet high. From here we will attach the walls on the left, back and right of the box with the three 4'x6' boards. (your left and right walls should have holes cut in them for ventilation fans) Attach the roof with the 4'x4' board Attach the floor with two of the 2'x4' boards side by side. Attach one of the 2'x4' boards to the front where the board is at the bottom (the 2x4 two feet high should have one inch exposed once the board is attched to ensure the doors work properly). Attach the hinges to two 2'x4' boards and then again to the front of the box so they open outward. For a handle/lock screw a 1"x6" peice of board to the left door (allowing mobility and range to come down on the screw) and just a screw on the right door. Screw in ceiling hooks and attach adjustable hangers. Hang light on adjustable hangers. Attach duct work from the light to the walls and fan. Attach mini oscillating fan in on corner of the room. Place 4'x4' pond liner on the floor. Hang up mylar on the walls. From the way I've drawn in out and the way it looks and sounds in my head I think this is going to be sweet. If anyone sees any flaws or has tried this and failed, please let me know what you did wrong so I can avoid that. If you have succeeded, please let me know what you did so I can repeat it. Thanks GC!

Very nice.
That type of wood will hold moisture though and should be sealed before mylaring. You will be asking for mold production behind the mylar otherwise. May I suggest Kilz Primer/sealer with added fungicide or Sta-Kool Elastomeric Roofing Compound. I am using the same type of wood in my construction but it is covered with the elastomeric coating, basically making the room into a large rubber box. Very nice cube though, can't wait to see it in operation.

Definitely have that covered. I have a 6 inch Vortex Inline exhaust fan that will be mounted to the top of the box with duct work going from the fan to the light and from the other side of the light to the intake hole. There will also be two smaller holes cut in the bottom back of the box with dark filters put over them to block out light and allow for fresh air to get in. There will also be 2 small oscillating desk fans caddy-corner to one another on the ground facing upwards blowing. |

I forgot to mention, This entire set up including wood, hinges, screws, light, ballast, pots(40 1 gallon), soil (3 bags), fan, mylar, exhaust duct came to 287.00. I got the light and ballast for 80.00, the wood for 60.00, the mylar for 30.00, duct for 20.00, fan for 50.00, pots for 20.00 and soil for 27.00

To answer your first question, yes that's pretty much what I am describing. What you are describing is having one fan on the left wall and one on the right wall with the duct work going to both sides of the light bringing in air from several air holes at the bottom of the box, right? For the filter here is a link to what I will be doing in the way of a filter. It's going to cost me about 15.00 for 4 carbon filters. DIY Filters Link |

but why u dont want a separate cooltube with 1i fan inside the cooltube right behind the bulb? and 1 exhaust fan on top geting air through filter? and few passive intake holes at the bottom? the carbon stuff u showed looks poor becouse theres not enough carbon in one can and i dont really understand how u gonna install those bags? i did tryed to invent some shit myself but came back to the original and well tested ideas u can find in the most cabs built by skilled growers here. p |
