N:Vision CFL's burning out on first day WTF!?!?!?!

Im pretty upset about this. Im tryin to get a mother plant but my cfls keep burning out after one day. Whats going on here? I would try just switching lights every so often but I let one go for a few hours and i turned around right now and it was out. I spent fuck 56 bucks and shits burnen out. I bought the lights on monday I think, well I had to return them yesterday and I got some new ones thank god. Now after another day it went out like I said before.

i took of the reflector that came with the socket. Its a 120v socket for 75 watt bulbs im using a 27 watt daylight on a single seedling about an inch away, its lookin good and it second set of leaves are appearing. If I cant fix this Im outa cash am gonna have to give up for now and outa 50 bucks, I could just bought a sack of shwag, or a couple grams a dro.

Ive heard that certain brands will do this to ya but what the fuck I mean even a person not growing would have this problem. Is it the fixture?

I'd say it's the fixture, or bad luck.

When I spoke to someone regarding CFL brands, they said TCP was one of the best because they actually have a lab to do quality testing. They only specifically mentioned Neptune brand as not having a lab to test, thus they had more "dead/break soon bulbs". It could be that N:vision is similar, but I'd guess it's your fixture, or power source, before the bulb ... since it happened twice. Make sure the fixture is in a surge protector to eliminate that possibility as well.

I got rid of the reflectores they had, maybe it was heat related. The fixture says that its for type A bulbs 120 volts 60hz my bulbs say for use in 120volt 60hz fixtures but nothing about type A, what does that mean?

Return the bulbs as defective to the store. Happens ALL the time to me when I buy new lights for CFL grows.. The people at the store say they just make unreliable batches now and then. They should've said "a lot" but, whatever.

I had the same problem with 2 of my n:vision 27-watt CFLs. I had them inside of a clamp lamp that I bought from Home Depot -- it had a round reflector hood and I used a Y splitter. Anyway -- I know one of the bulbs simply just got too hot and the CFL tube was rather weakly attached to the rest of the fixture, which probably means the whole setup just got too hot. My temps were running high (like 90 and above). The other bulb, well, I'm not sure. I put a fan in and just got rid of the reflector hood and I have 3 remaining bulbs doing alright.

Just keep a few spares on hand and return the defective ones.

I have way more than 2 or 3 in my room and not one has needed replacement for over 5 months. I buy GE bulbs though.

I used to use n:vision 27watt CFL's like you, but they just never really worked out for me. The first set of leaves came out, but then withered and died away. With my new 150watt hps, they actually stand.

So, you may have better luck than me, and I hope you do. For now, just replace them as "defective" like another poster above has mentioned.
