Light Cover Not Glass?

My coke fridge will be coming along soon i hope and I had an idea of using the 2 different vents at top of fridge to be able to have the light with its own exhaust and be sealed from box.

Glass im sure would be very expensive and hard to work with to make pretty much an L with 2 pieces of (plexy possibly)some material that will not block any light but be able to withstand heat of light. Remember it will be heavily vented. What you guys think?

EDIT: 400Watt HPS will be going in there.

onedayglass.com they have a decent rate. with such a small piece you should be able to get away with 1/8" thick. 3/16" is better. fast reliable shipping with tracking

Price out regular tempered glass. you won't need pyro-ceram or neo-ceram

If you're gonna seperately vent the bulb area you don't have to worry much about high temp damaging the glass. Plexi can be used, tho make sure it's not restricting UV. HPS lamps have veeeery low UV output as it is.

buy a "cool tube" from hydro farm... it will do the job 100x better than a homemade version... although the smallest they come in is 19" long so that might hinder your tactics. You should definitely look into them because they are well worth it for very small areas. you just need a good exhaust fan and your set.

Well the thing is I dont have alot of money to through around so I want to try and save soem where I can. I want to get a good ballast and think a $100-200 reflector is not the best investment. I am not saying that I wont get one but want to try and make it work without buying at first.

I can always upgrade and think a couple pieces of plexy will be pretty cheap compared. I just want to make sure im not going to melt it and set house on fire lol. But if it will work then sweet

Just mount the plexi with a little space from the bulb housing to let air enter from below and if you add a crappy computer fan on top that's it. Not only it will cool the lamp, air entering will move around the plexi so there's no way in hell you can melt 'em.

This only helps to cool the lighting, don't forget that with 400W HPS in a small area and without cooling, exhaust fan's efficiency is limited by the ambiance temp.

If i mount the plexy down like 2 feet there is actualy a vent behind the light compartment. Both exit right beside each other on top of cooler One could force air in and one would force air out. Would only have to drill couple holes for the growing compartment ventilation. The room I am in is decently cool all the time, sometimes uncomfortably cool lol but im a pansy when it comes to cold.
