So I'm starting to slowly build my future grow plan. I am going to keep using this thread to ask all my various questions about materials and such.

First Question:

Lights- I know I want to use CFL's. I am looking at growing 3-4 plants. I have the Grow Bible and know that I don't want any less than 2500 lumens per plant. I want to keep my budget low so cost is important. I have walked up and down the isles in a few stores and looked at CFL's. However I was wondering if there are any specific types of CFL I need to look for. Is there a difference between Daylight and other types? If so which is best?

If there is a good source of reading on this please let me know as well. Answers are appreciated as well as resources.

Second Question:

How Long?- I know plant cycles vary from strain to strain but do you think I could pull of a grow in between now and May 31st? I may skip germinating my own seeds and just get some clones from a club. Are there any faster strains that you guys would recommend so that I can get it done in time?

Also if the admin could move this thread to the Beginner Grow section I think it would be more appropriate. My bad on that one.

Ok guys so I just got the ok from my roommate go start with the grow. A big first step.

The closet I am dealing with is 22" deep at the base and 24" deep on the walls (has the odd boarder at the bottom). It is 63" wide. I am planning on picking up 4 clones from a club to start my grow.

For lights I will be doing CFLs to reduce cost and heat. I have the grow bible and have done some research. I know I need Daylight (6,500k) for vegging and 2,700k (soft white) for flowering for the best result. However I am having trouble figuring out the lumens I need.

The first part of the grow bible says that you shouldn't go below 2500 lumens for one plant. Then later it gives the example of 4 plants needing 45,000 lumens. Quite a big jump!!! I figure I should get two bulbs for every plant. I will start with all daylight for the veg grow and then switch one in each pair for a soft white for the flower cycle. Does this seem right to you guys? How many lumens per bulb should I shoot for? I was thinking of just going for the highest possible. If i could go less that would be great to save money. Let me know what you guys think.

Alright so I have decided to go with a stealth rubbermaid grow after seeing some great setups around the web. I went out today and bought some bulbs and socket splitters.

They are 23 watt, 1,380 lumen bulbs that are daylight spectrum. I bought 4 and the splitters to set it up. Do you guys approve of the lights? I think I'm just going to LST a single plant to fill the bins so all this light will be for 1 plant. sounds good?

That plan you have is excellent. If I were you I'd go with the lst on maybe two plants so you can maximize yield for your small space.

Good new bros. I began construction on my setup today. I only got halfway done lining it with reflective tape so I will post pictures later. The temp inside got to a smoking 90 degrees! However that is without any fan at all. I'm going to pick up one tomorrow so we can solve this problem.

Once the place is ready I'm going to the club to get me a baby!

I have noticed a connection between photo posts and responses. As such I will be adding some pics later.

However for the time being does anyone know if putting some dry ice in some water in a bowl at the bottom of the grow cab will help CO2 levels? I assume it must since dry ice is just solid CO2. let me know if you have tried it.

Also what soil would you guys recommend if I cant get my hands on Foxfarm

Here is what the setup looks like from the outside. Given this isn't the finished product, however the only other outside appearance addition will be one power chord heading to the back.

This is the view inside. You can see that Im not quite done yet with putting tape on the inside. It is a real pain so I am taking it slow. Plus the club is out of clones so I am not in a huge rush.

This is the light setup. One of the bulbs broke in a run where I didn't have a proper hang setup. Im debating whether to buy a second pack. We will see.

might as well go with the second pack. and, i do not recommend foil. flat white paint.

as for lumens. you can never have too much. thats where the 40k+ came in. i like around 5k+ per plant.

everything else sounds fine. good luck!! oh ps - smell a problem??

Yah I'm starting to think foil may have been a mistake too. I may just rip it all out and paint instead. I am not worried about the smell at the moment. My roommate is chill. However if it does become an issue I have ways of addressing it.
