Best nofrills 600w setup

OK here is my situation: I want to grow indoors in a basement in a 6x6 sq ft area. Ceiling is 8ft. I have a electric and a fireplace flue I can vent out of. I need to be able to disassemble in a hurry, so everything needs to be temporary, including the "walls" of the grow area. I want a GOOD quality light (thinking 600w) and fan system. I would like my exhaust fan to also cool my light bulb. Is there anything else I need?

Look at the attached pic. I want to do something just like this but I want to buy components separately and assemble myself. Can anyone tell me the parts to get and from where?

What is the MINIMAL setup I need to get good strong weed? I just need the basic components. Light (specify best 600W), reflector hood, fan system, timers. Please include brand names and weblinks as to where I can get the stuff. I want quality but I dont want to pay a fortune.

Oh I am growing in soil, 20 gal pots.

Go to htgsupply.com. Pickup a 600w digital ballast with cooled hood (add the light timer to your order). Get either the Sunmaster or Hortilux Eye bulb. Get yourself a SunCourt inline fan (available from HTG or your nearest HomeDepot/Lowes) in a size that corresponds to your hood. I bought an 8" because of the 500 CFM flow rate but finding 8" flexible tubing is a huge pain in the ass - I had to search all the local hydro shops. Might be worth just buying from them if possible, Im not sure about that. Do not buy those vortex fans or those squirrel cage fans unless you enjoy wasting money - they are louder and don't work any better than an inline fan. A SunCourt, or comparable model, will run you $30 and do a fantastic job.
I have only one fan, attached to my hood so that it cools the bulb, and would recommend that you do the same. So long as you have adequate passive venting to allow fresh air into your setup you should be just fine.
As far as having everything portable and ready to move, you might want to consider just buying a grow tent from HTG as well. They allow you to set up shop and then easily move after you are done without leaving any traces of your activities behind. You could build one but it would be easier and probably better to just buy one - after a single harvest it will have paid for itself anyway, and can always be sold via Ebay or craigslist if you decide to get rid of it.
Two things which you did not mention in your post:
1) If you have a 5x5 area you should consider using a 1000 watter
2) Get a carbon scrubber. Either build one yourself (just google it) or buy one from Ebay or another online vendor. Your girls will start to really stink if you are doing things right and a scrubber is essential to keeping things stealthy.

best of luck,
cheers

the 30$ sun court is just a inline booster fan.it will only work for very short runs.it was totally under powered for me.it may work as a cooling fan for air cooled lights but if your ducting the air very far at all I suggest getting a much better fan.HTG supply is a great source for equipment.

I wish I knew you, I would give you both my Suncourt fans, They take up space in my junk pile. Total crap. PC fans will push more air.

i have some high ceilings, which helps, but manage to keep my temps between 72-80, usually around 76. So far I haven't had any trouble with the fan crapping out - it's even pushing through a pretty intense carbon filter. Maybe I just got lucky, i dont know what to say.
Wasn't trying to spread disinformation or go against the gospel of the squirrel fan but recommending what has worked for me.

cheers

It's all good Rabit. I don't care much for squirrel cage fans as well (great fan but lot of noise). I am glad we don't all agree on everything. Makes for good reading.

do you think that the sun court inline "inductor" fan from home depot would be good as an exhaust in a small stealth grow cab.

Dimensions: 47"Hx27"Wx12"D

Now that i really think about it, the SunCourt probably only works for me beacuse the distance from the fan to the filter is about 12" and the total distance of ducting is about 6', probably closer to 5' total. That combined with the 8" diameter of the ducting should make it about as easy as possible for the fan to do its job.
I might even put a 6" inline that I have lying around on the outlet side of my filter to suck air through to improve the flow rate

This is all very very useful advice. Thanks RR and RF. Unfortunately my inline fan will have to exhaust out though probably 20 feet, so I guess I should ask the supply co. which fan and what diameter. How does the fan regulate the temperature in the room? Is there a thermostat kicking it off/on or does it run constantly? and where is that located? How is it wired up? Sorry for all the dumb questions but all my grows have been outdoors and now I want to enjoy my hobby year round.
