Thermal Scanners

Hey GC! I have a question for you guys. Lets say there is a room with a closet thats 3x5, and in the closet the temps stay in the range of 80-85 degrees F. However in the rest of the house the temps are 70-75 degrees F. This room is on the exterior of the house. Would a anyone (a cop for example) with a thermal scanner be able to see the deference in the wall temperature and get nosey?

I was going to berate you for being an overly paranoid stoner, but then I did a little research and learned two things:

1) People really have been busted from thermal scans.

2) The Supreme Court of the USA has ruled that the a thermal scan is a "search" and that the cops need to get a warrant before they can do it.

That guy was growing more than 100 plants. I don't think you have anything to worry about with your 3 X 5 closet.

I agree with both points by Mycroft, I watched a senate review on cspan recently that
concerned something very similar to this, they were trying to convince the senate committee
that it was in the best interests of this country to be able to use their technology to see inside
random houses. I was surprised how the senators didn't see anything wrong with this.

I think if you don't do anything suspicious then your house is going to look no different from
everyone elses. And at least for now the cops aren't thermal scanning every house.

So just make you and your house look no different from every other boring house and you're going to be fine

The government does thermal scanning. There is a division in the Army specifically for this. And it is random, they fly helicopters over neighborhoods looking for unusual thermal activity. However, as mentioned, it takes A LOT of thermal activity to draw suspicion. And even after this they have to investigate externally for anything visible they see for up to months to get enough to warrant a search, which is expensive and therefore only used for large grows. A closet grow looks no different than any other lights in your house, hell even a room grow could look fine(but would take more precision to hide). Just don't do a massive airplane hangar sized grow and you'll be fine. Hope this helps

They look for a really high thermal energy in these scans. Your typical closet grow would probably look like you're a reptile lover. I personally own 5 geckos, 2 snakes, and 2 hermit crabs... my closet runs 80-90 degrees F.
