StyroFarm Pot

StyroFarm Pot

Dimensions ~= 14"H x 12"W x 12"D

This is a simple top-open styrofarm box. It is intended to be filled with soil up to 12 inches. The cubic foot of soil is intended to give the plant's roots enough room from seed to harvest.

The slits near the top of the box are intended for air intake when used with a StyroFarm Hood.

It's recommended to line the inside of the box with a garbage bag to increase the lifespan. (Cut holes at the bottom of the bag for water drainage.)

StyroFarm Hood Stage 1

StyroFarm Hood Stage 1

Dimensions ~= 5"H x 12"W x 12"D

The top of the box consists of a simple light socket (Home Depot) and a 80mm computer case fan (Circuit City). To run the fan I have a 12V 1000mA power adapter and Power Leads (Radio Shack). Most case fans have a rated voltage of 12V, and 1000mA should be MORE than enough for hany 80mm fan.

The 5" height should give the hood enough room for any cfl you intend to use.

Make sure the fan is blowing air OUT.

The hood should easily sit right on top of a StyroFarm Pot.

lol. well it's still a "prototype". I'll test that out today. I'll keep the light on all day, and check it like every 5 minutes.

been running for almost 3 hours. The fan right next to the bulb must keep it cool. The bulb is just warm to the touch.

hows tempature and humidity controlled, and what type of light would you use for growth/budding, other than that it looks real small and compact for a single plant

best way of controlling the temperature is keeping the StyroFarm Grow Box inside a room of desired temperature. The exhaust fan should keep it roughly the same temperature as that outside the box. I'm assuming this is the same as humidity. I'm a novice grower, so I haven't gotten in humidity control YET.

The StyroFarm Grow Box is intended for those with little money, so it is intended for CFLs ONLY. The StyroFarm Stage 1 Hood only has room for 1 cfl. But as my testing continues new Hoods will be made that will add more lights/exhaust.

The StyroFarm Grow Box Stage 1a is intended for the plant from 0-2 inches tall. Once it reaches a certain height I will make a simple attachment that will be added that will extend the height of the StyroFarm Grow Box. As it gets taller these extensions will become taller also, and possibly more advanced (tie downs for lst, light sockets, and more exhaust).

Possibly in the future there will be added features for temp control, humidity control, co2 control, and carbon filter exhaust.

There is no way I would put a light inside of a styrofoam box, I don't care how cool the light is supposed to be. VERY careful man, that is a real fire hazard.

fisherman do it all the time. many ice boxes are made of thin outside metal and inside styrofoam, and there are lights inside.

i'll keep a close eye on it though, but it's been running for 4 days now and no problem. my roommate also mentioned that i shouldn't have to worry about it starting on fire because styrofoam will melt before it starts on fire.

I think you made a good effort, and had a pretty good idea, I just don't see the point.

A) It isn't really hiding anything.
B) It limits you to low quality MJ with the CFL's.
C) It would be cheaper and easier to just grow it in a room out in the open.

I'm not trying to be an asshole, I appreciate that you actually made this, I just don't see the purpose it fulfills.

Styrofoam won't leak water.

the MAIN reason i did this was because someone said on these forums somewheres that they believe styrofoam was amazing for reflecting light. So i went on craigslist and found a guy giving away free styrofoam. when i went to picked it up he had a lot. he said i need to take it all or none. so i took it all, and i'm trying to use it up, cause right now it's just sitting in my basement.
