Using the cloner, is it possible to root cuttings directly in the hydroton and 6" pots?

......to minimize troubles with roots snapping off when transferring from the 2" pots to the 6" pots.

Damn good question. My answer is only speculation.

I dont think you can clone in the hydroton. The cuttings need lots of moisture. I don't think it will be enough.

I have a good solutions though. I cut the bottoms out of the 2" net pots now. Works so good. I had the same issues with breaking off roots. After I started cutting the bottoms out, it was 200% easier.

Hi, how do you feed your mom, as in what nutrients and what strength? Lucas formula? What medium do you have her in? I don't remember you mentioning much about her.

I keep my mothers in Vic's super soil mix. It's just a premix that you never have to add anything to it. I switch out the mothers every year.

Vic's Super Soil:
1 Bale sunshine mix #2 or promix (3.8 cu ft)
8 cups Bone Meal - phosphorus source
4 cups Blood Meal - nitrogen source
1 1/3 cups Epsom salts - magnesium source
3-4 cups dolomite lime -calcium source & pH buffering
4 cups kelp meal.
9kg (25 lbs) bag pure worm castings

- Mix thoroughly, moisten, and let sit 1-2 weeks before use

I'm not a "hydro guy", I'm a lazy guy. I don't need fast growth rates for my mom plant. And hydro take a bit of work. That soil is as easy as it gets.

Robsgreen, you have to make Vic's Super Soil yourself. You cant buy it. That fox farm premix soil would be as good and is ready made. I have a friend who still grows in Vic's, so he gives me a bucket now and then.

I dig that, thats why it sounded so interesting. I don't want to be forever mixing nutes, I want to forget she's even around.

Luckily you have a friend that has some, looks like quite a chore to make and those ingredients probably aren't easy to find, at least for me. The worse part would probably be how much I would have to buy. I needed a few teaspoons of lime, came home with 20kg of the shit. lol

Well I wasn't thinking about self feeding soil, now I know I can see if there's any other formulas that might be easier to put together. Thanks man.

walmart / home depot / local nursery carries all of these ingredients with the exception of the #2 promix. I havent seen that anywhere other than online.

I have seen Promix at Ace Hardware. I am able to get the Sunshinemix at a farm supply.

I like this room. Your lights, what kind are they - t5, t8, t12? I ask because I have 2 t8 bulbs running in my clone room and it looks like you have the same ones. My plants grow well and all but I think I should add another 2 to give them something more.

Chronitron, I just use two warm and two cool white florescent bulbs from homedepot.

The clone machine was retail from a hydro store. I have made a few of my own lids for it out of plastic cutting boards. You can buy the containers at Lowes or homedepot in three colors and a few sizes. I wish I had done it that way. Any pond pump and misters screwed into a plastic pipe would be better then retail:
