Glue

Yea that's kind of what I figured. I've seen a lot of people design their own Flood and Drains before and they swear by the aquarium silicon glue. That's interesting about the PH though, I've never heard that before, I'll have to do some research, I'll let you know if I stumble across anything. I'm sure if your as OCD about it as I am, and by the looks of things you most certainly are, then as long as you check your babies everyday and maintain a constant PH, it wouldn't pose any problems...

From what I understand, 28°C (82.4°F) is a very high temp for the solution in the bubble buckets, and as some folks claim, a sure path to root rot. https://www.cannabis-world.org/cw/showthread.php?t=358

On the other hand, bubble buckets do seem to be the best answer for a tight quarters hydro grow, and the roots from your photos seem to be as healthy as can be.

I'd like to give the buckets a go, but the thread from Lucas (link above) has brought up some concerns.

Do you ever have problems with roots rotting? Are there any measures that you take to avoid root rot?

Dimensions

Hey Rump how's life been treating ya? I was curious...what are the dimensions of your mother/clone room and flowering room? I'm going to give DWC a try while using the SCROG method, but I can't decide if I want two or three buckets going in my flowering room. I'm leaning toward three, but I'm not sure what kind of restrictions I'm going to give myself (space wise) as I will probably build a closet in a cabinet (A pretty big cabinet for my flowering room). Anyways, just running through some ideas at this point and was wondering the size of your rooms.

Thanks Rump!

37" wide x 33" high x 17 deep. Like the size of a dorm room fridge. Good luck with the build, cant wait to see it.

random_act, sorry I missed your post. I have never had issues with root-rot or pond scum. I do dump my nutrients every 10 to 14 days.

You have very little controll over bucket temps, unless you buy a chiller. I just do my best to keep the whole grow cool. During the summer my grow gets real warm, yet I can still get some nice yeilds. Do what you can and roll with it.

Peace, R.

Rumple you have inspired me to change my 3x6 area currently with drippers all to DWC..Your insane yields have really made me see the difference from DWC compared to other types of growing. I have a 1000w over the area on a light mover with soon to be c02 enrichment and was wondering what you think about doing a perpetual harvest with DWC buckets? how many plants would you personally run in that area? also are you adding anything like Sweet or a carbo load with the lucas formula? Thanks for all the inspiration and great info youve provided!

also rumple- I dont exactly have the height to get my plants 4.5 feet tall so what do you think about a zero veg time to keep the height limited. Just to flower directly from the aero cloner once roots have shown..

I would put as many buckets I could fit in that 3x6. 1000W bulbs are great for that space if you can cool them.

Veg time and height will depend on all kinds of stuff. Do a test run with a short veg (10 to 25 days) and measure your height. It might take a few grows to get it spot on.

DWC is great for growing weed real fast. The only issue I have is the mess it makes. I would not want to do more then 5 plants using DWC. Any more then 5 plants, I would do flood tables. I spend a day cleaning my 3 buckets after each grow (could be that I'm real lazy).

Best of luck, R.

First off, Thanks for the quick response rumple!

Well i mean since you say the only problem is the mess at the end of the cycle then im pretty sure im willing to go for it. I was thinking of doing 8 plants and i really wouldnt mind cleaning the 8 buckets for results like that.

I moved from flood and drain to drip, and now from seeing yours and other Grow journals with bubble buckets, I think there is a significant difference in growth rates and yield.

Also I love the simplicity of the nutes with the lucas formula. The nutes are super cheap from GH compared to my 5 part botanicare/Advanced Nutes Blend.

Maybe i will do a side by side comparison with DWC vs. Drip

Rump- One last question-Dou you use any other additives other than the GH Micro and Bloom? Any Carbo Load or things like that?

Sorry for the long post! thanks for all the help

DWC and airstones

First of all let me say that I have read almost everything you have posted, and follow what you do religiously, I have learned more about this hobby from reading your posts and following your journals and am considering a hydro setup of mine own. With that being said I had a question concerning your reservoir. Do you run airstones in the reservoir? I thought I noticed lines going in on your pictures, and if so why is this important, is it just for circulating of the water, keeping oxygen in the water, or maybe is to mimic the exact climates or your buckets to get accurate readings. Once again thank you so much for posting your work, you have been a great wealth of information and inspiration to all here on G.C.

I dont andd anything to Lucas's Formula. I stick to what works. Most folks will add all kinds of stuff that will make your plant grow alot slower.

Air stones in the Rez? You caught me. I just started doing that this last grow. Seems to keep a clean smell in that bucket. I was getting an egg smell in the reservoir. Now its gone. Not sure if it helps the grow, just the smell.

It's a cool-tube lamp that I bought. Here is a link:

The blowers I use are like the one below:
