Anyone know anything about AC vents?

Now, I was thinking about a way to set up a vent system.

The room I'm growing in has two vents. A vent in the floor and a vent in the ceiling. During the summer the vent on the floor blows cold air into the room. The vent on the top takes the warmer air, brings it back down through the house, where the air is cooled, then pumped back into the house.

I know there is some type of filter system in the air, I think its proboly a hepa filter, or something like that.

The concern is, if the grow room begins to reak like bud, what if the exhast vent sucks the smell up, cools it down, then pumps cooled bud smelling air throughout the whole house lol. Anyone know if a filter in an central air AC system will filter out any smells?

When I get a chance I'll test it with an odor that isn't bud, but I was just wondering incase. Thanks.

Good concern, because it's exactly what will happen. When your bud stinks (like nectar of the Gods) your house will stink. There are no filters currently in standard AC units that filter smells as strong as bud.

Solution: hopefully you have an exhaust system setup already with some duct line. If you do, just build a carbon filter so that any air being exhausted will be scrubbed and cleaned prior to entering your AC system.

If you dont have duct, or if your grow is just in a room without a close box, the only solution I can think of is to block the AC intake for that room (if possible without reducing the overall intake of your system). This will significantly heat up the room but will prevent the air moving into the rest of your home.

I would NOT recommend going with any kind of ion generator or 'air filter units' that you can get at a store. Your AC vent intake will be pulling way more air than these units could possibly clean, so the smell would continue to drift into your home.

Yea, I figured that would happen. I'm going to get a carbon filter, and just shove it in the duct, so that it will pass through in the vent in my grow room. That way the air won't smell when it is being passed through the rest of the house.
