Nirvana Bubblelicious 600w HPS

Hello All,
This is my first post here at Grasscity... so bear with me as I get used to all of the thread options.
I have been growing for 5+ years or so, and was lucky enough to obtain most of my knowledge from Overgrow before it became Overthrown. I've grown some Serious Seeds Bubblegum before with decent results, and countless bagseeds that can go either way. I figured I'd try out Nirvana's version in the Bubblelicious strain. To catch you up, here are the pics from day 2 to present (day 12). Just a baby still, but I wanted to keep track of the whole process this time for learning purposes (mine AND yours). I only have the 1 plant right now, since I am considering moving this one outside still, but who knows at this point... 9 more seeds to go, and infinite clones if I like the strain. You might notice that there is some slight yellowing in the last picture, in between the veins of the lower fan leaves. Any ideas as to what this might be indicating? Thanks, and happy growing to all.

Just started yesterday with some FoxFarm GrowBig 3-2-6, let's see if it helps out? This is the second round for this batch of soil, as it was used in a previous grow, but it will get all new medium when it is transplanted later on in veg. Perhaps that is why my nutes are slightly lacking. Thanks for the reply.

No worries, your leaves might be just stretching as well, mine did the same thing and looked a little shaded in between veins, all good now. well no it was a male lmao (not saying yours is or will be)

LoL. Sorry to hear that... Hopefully I won't suffer the same loss (although Bubblelicious pollen would be a decent thing to hold on to).

I always have a tough time determining the phenotype of plants when they are young like this... It looks to me like it has a heavy indica tendency, but plants like that before have turned out to be sativa monsters! Any other thoughts on leaf structure? Thanks for all the quick replies here. I'll make sure to keep this going on a fairly regular basis...

It's looking less yellow and a little more perky this afternoon. I decided to give it a small shot of H2O2 since there is a little too much water in the soil, which can reduce oxygen content. I am absolutely amazed at how fast these side branches are growing. This is only day 13 from seed and they have definite structure already. If it turns out to be female, I get the feeling that this plant will pump out a little weight, especially if it is the only thing under a 600w HPS. Does anyone have experience with this particular strain? If so, I would love to hear some brief grow/smoke reports or a thread link.

Thanks Blobbio and RoGard. It's kind of scary to only have 1 plant growing in case it's a male, but before I start any more Bubs, I need to get a ventilation solution in place and some type of cooling unit. These 600 watters put off some heat and can raise my temps by 20 or more F. I have a 6-inch circulation fan blowing when I use the HPS to help redirect some of the heat, which works okay, but it still gets from 85-87 degrees at the top of the plant. I am more comfortable with the 78-82 range, and it will give me an excuse to buy a carbon filter too. For now, I can pull back the light a little bit, but I don't want any unnecessary stretching so I can get this thing as fat and bushy as possible before throwing it into 12s. I am currently thinking that 4-5 more weeks of veg will put it at approximately 2-3 feet tall with a similar circumference. Flowering will take a long time, but in the end it will be worth the "weight" haha

Just a few update pics, still going strong at the moment. I have a tendency to overwater sometimes, but I'm working on it... I just kick on the HPS for a few hours and turn the fan on high to help evaporate some of the excess. I am also noticing that the stems all have a pinkish hue to them (see last pic). It has been like that from the start, which hopefully means that this is the "bubblegummy" phenotype. The smell is quite standard at this point, but only flowering will tell if this will have that signature smell and taste. Thanks again to everyone for a warm welcome, and I will keep updating when possible.

looking real good and healthy!

the very slight yellowing might be pH. if you don't already, check the outgoing water's pH at the bottom of the pot after a watering.

no experience on nirvana bubblelicious, but 600w hps runs really hot as i'm sure u already know. just make sure you have enough vertical space, 2 of my last nirvana white widow hermied due to heat burn =[

Ouch! Sorry to hear that. I have 14 ft vaulted ceilings in some rooms of the house, so I'm not worried about space. I have gotten some good results from topping in past grows, as well as tying down top branches for a more uniform canopy. This will help keep the height down also, but the current room's ceiling is 8 ft. If it starts getting too hot, I can also turn the thermostat way down to pump more cold air into the room. This is not very efficient, however, and keeps the rest of the house even colder. I'm thinking that a portable a/c blower would solve that problem for 100-150 dollars or so.

I have some pH sticks from the one hydro grow I attempted a couple years ago. I'll check it out and report what I find.

This is interesting... The test strips I use have 5 different tests. Here are the results from my tap water and water drained through the soil:

TAP WATER (before watering plant)
Nitrate NO3 = 0 (safe)
Nitrate NO2 = .5 (caution)
Hardness = 75 (soft)
Alkalinity = 40 (low)
pH = 6.8 (neutral)

DRAINED WATER (after watering plant)
Nitrate NO3 = 160 (unsafe)
Nitrate NO2 = 1.0 (stress)
Hardness = 300 (very hard)
Alkalinity = 40 (low)
pH = 6.2 (acidic)

I'm not sure what this translates too. Can anyone else point out problems with these numbers, and possibly how to fix them? I'm thinking that a calcium additive will help with the high nitrogen levels...

Well, we are still going strong here. The slight discoloration has not completely dissipated, but I can't do much until the soil is ready for another feeding... Also, I found a very small brown spot on one of the fan leaves, not bigger than this capital "O". No others that I could find, hopefully it is just a fluke.

Anyways, here are a few update pics. Node spacing no greater than 1" all the way up! And the side branches are keeping up well, as seen in the last picture. Enjoy!
