Growin' With Bubbles!

after being disappointed by two dirt grows because of being ill-equipped, I decided to wait to grow until I had all the right equipment. I also decided that because i was going to wait, i'd do it right, and go hydro, because I want to see real progress. so, after reading everything i could find on the internet twice, i've got the supplies, got a clone and i'm starting a grow!

currently, i have 1 plant, chillin in a rumplebucket, under 1 40w 5500k CFL which seems to be plenty of light at the moment. i'll be putting it under a 170w MH in a week or two.

my water is RO 5.6Ph 310ppm on a dilute lucas formula and 70-73 degrees

thank you rumpleforeskin for the great how to on the bubble buckets, you've made many people happy with how very simple you laid it out for us.

sooo.. after all this prep i did, the guy i got my clone from room got spidermites. (i should have seen this coming, after all he owns a lawn service) but, i'm only startin' with one, so i wiped the leaves real well with soap and water, and i got some of schults spray. I couldn't find neem oil, but this says it deals with spidermites and it says its ok to use on edible plants the day of harvest, so i'll be trying this first.

i've had this clone for 6 days now, and already i've got roots pouring from my mesh pot. i'm amazed at the root progress in only a couple hour's time. as for the new growth, the first three days brought two new sets of leaves, so I FIMed it, and had a pause in foliage growth, but i see it starting again. theres some damage on the older leaves from those pesky critters, but the new growth is lookin good.

thats all i can remember for now, so here's some pics of the first couple days. the bottom picture i trimmed the lower fan leaves because i dont think they were doing much.

Good Luck Matey!

Looks like you're starting out fine. I'll prob end up attempting a rumplebucket for the grow after my next. I want to get everything dialled in right before I go hydro. Wouldn't it be cool if the term "rumplebucket" comes in to every day use in the MJ growing scene?

You sure you got the mites licked? I hope you have, cos from what I've read they can be a bitch to shift.

GL on your grow, you seem to have your head screwed on right so I think you'll do well. Good prep and a good calm attitude seem to go a long way down the right road if you know what I mean.

But what do I know? I'm just a damned noob like you

thanks for the kind words, i sure hope i've got those spidermites. i dont see it being a real problem as its only one tiny plant that has an obsessive dad. i look for the little buggers every chance i get, and i can always try other methods. i don't plan on flowering her for many months to come, so i have plenty of time to get em.

Found a couple more pics of day 4ish? when i underestimated how much she loves that light and i had it a bit too close and she stretched her leaves into the light.

day 7 now and I cannot believe the root growth. i already have roots touching the bottom of my bucket, and i can see a major difference even after only 5 or 6 hours. amazing. i had no idea they could grow so fast. Plant's lookin good too, i'll be puttin up some new pics tomorrow.

i threw in another cfl and raised the nutes to 520ppm and they seem to be loving it. i'll wait a couple days to check for burns, then raise it a few ppm at a time to see where they need to be when i put it under the MH.

alright, some updated pics fresh from the camera.
kinda worried about problems with the leaves in pics 1 and 2 (you kinda have to look for them) but, the plant is doing good other than that. i think i got those spidermites. let me know what you think.

if u got the roots down its time for MH IMO
u can raise ppm too when u swich to MH (800 05ec for a start)

not shure about the mites
havent seen them in action
u better ask those who did like the gonejah - i think he did if i remember it right

and u better get some aditives to spray with like GHE - bio protect

p

thanks screwdababylon, i figured i'd put that MH on, but the only problem with that is i'm tryin to keep my res cool, which is bordering on 75 degrees with just floros. cant afford a chiller at this point, so i'm not sure what to do about that. so cal gets hot hot hot during the summer, so i'm gonna have to figure it out eventually. i have an idea, but i'll run it by you guys before i build anything.

about the spidermites; well, i'm pretty sure i didn't get em all. screw this shults. i'm gettin neem oil. i just couldn't when i wanted to cause the hydro shop was closed. the thing is, i only see maybe 3 or 4 actual spidermites which i wipe off the leaves, and theres no webs, but they arent going away, and i seem to see more and more eggs, so they are there.

---gonejah, if you happen to read this, let me know if you have suggestions. i read your log, but cant remember what you said you did. i'll probably read it again today.

what is the temps in your grow area then?
maybe u should try some kind of partition right above the res - so only your plant will go into the chamber with the light and the res will be in another part of the box - completly dark and no hot air coming in there

well thats the first thing that came to my mind

u can wait for ages for someone to come and tell u what to do with your mites
go and find info hit him up with PM (sorry gonejah ) )

thats a good idea about the partition, maybe i'll figure out a way to add that to whatever i end up doing about it.

yeah, i know he probably wont respond via this forum, but i think i can handle it myself. dont really feel like bothering him by contacting him directly. i'll just research it a bit more, and probably figure it out myself. if he happens upon this thread, i'd love to hear what he has to say about the subject. its definately not an infestation, so its not really a pressing issue, and i have time to figure things out. (not too much time though, i'm seeing the first tiny rusty spots on some older new leaves.)

Uncluenugs, the dreaded spider mite thrives in dry conditions. Grab yourself a clean spray bottle add some distilled water in it and spray the leaves. Be sure to spray the top and bottom of the leave's. Next take two sponges and get them wet (not too wet) and place one on top of the leaf and one on the bottom of leaf. Close together on the leaf and pull outwards to clean the leaf. That should do the trick. Make sure you have fans blowing afterwards to get rid of mold. And since you are using DWC method dont cause algea or any other water born fungi.
