sounds like a really potent auto-flowering strain im subscribed, i dunno much about your type of hydro but if light gets in the resivor wont it cause alage to build up? id suggest if you have the extra hydroton to just put it in the baskets.

i've been using saucers to cover those empty slots thus far, but i just filled them all with hydroton, probably works just as good and is twice as visually appeasing

Ask and you shall receive, lol

Start of Day 12

Well it's only been 12 days since I started this thread and only 10 days since I started to germinate them, I'm a little disappointed with Dr. Chronic's seeds, 5 didn't even crack, and another 5 didn't sprout... 2 then died after sprouting, which takes my count down to 8.. but then again it is my first time so I guess I can't expect too too much...

Am already planning my next perpetual grow with HGS White Russian... about to order a 1000W HPS and another set of 4' T5's along with some other goodies, but that is an entirely different journal

Updates: Found there was a problem with my AeroFlo delivering an equal amount of mist to the plants, lowered the water down to a very low level so the stream hit the plastic and created more misting.

All the plants are still relatively very short, not much height growth, but as you can see, the leaves are getting huge.

Will flush the reservoir soon.

Stats:

68°F - Lights off
pH - 5.7 - 5.8
PPM - 256

Quick update:

I feel like an asshole... I got lazy and forgot to check the pH yesterday... one of my plants had yellow spots on it this morning with an insane pH of 6.4 .... adjusted it to where it should be... hopefully it bounces back

Hey about ur seeds not cracking.. Sometimes they have a hard outer shell that doesn't let moisture through very well. Especially if they're strong seeds. So what you can do is take a matchbox, tape a little sandpaper in there, put the seeds in and shake it up for say 30 seconds or until you see a little scuffing on the outsides of them. Should make their cracking process a lot easier next time.

Wow im really hung-over and that was really fucking hard to type without mistakes haha.

Why am I not seeing the pictures from the first post/thread starter?

Other than that, nice journal. I clone aeroponically although not with great success. This is also a reply to your “sick plants" thread. The pH swing and/or high ppm could have caused the browning. Otherwise, I see no real health issues; they look great.
Oh and a 400 watt with a good fan or two which run 24/7 will add $15-$25 a month to your electric bill; tops. They won’t notice that especially if you go 18/6 with the light. That would be about the equivalent to adding a powerful desktop computer and running it 24/7.

Speaking of computers mazel-tov on the new computer. Eight months or so ago I bought a Dell Dimension E521. I believe the one you got is better in that it has better graphics? Not sure on that though but, I love mine. It is super fast, super quiet and has great graphics considering the low to medium graphics apps that I use [no gaming.] Anyway, best wishes on the animate and inanimate objects we are talking about here.

2 Weeks Since Germination

Well it's been rough the past few days... two of my plants got hit hard with magnesium deficiency and I ran out of ideas to fix it...

I added epsom salt to the res and even started foliar feeding them... finally I decided to raise the level of my drain tubes and now *hopefully* it seems like it stopped the brown spots from forming. Although the spots where I could tell were becoming yellow/brown are still progressing towards brown, like those spots are still dieing even though its not spreading anymore. Is this normal?

I also clipped one of the plants. The dead/brown area consumed the entire first half of both leaves in it's first set, so I cut off the crispsy area with scissors... it doesn't seem like it was hurt and has still been growing as fast as it ever did.

Would it be advisable for me to flush with fresh distilled water for a few days? Or would taking them off their nutes now be a bad idea?

Definitely paying more attention to nute information for the next grow.... blah

This is the plant I clipped:

This is the second plant that got the magnesium deficiency... I'm going to leave the spots on those leaves for right now to see if it spreads, or should I just clip that area off so it doesn't?

The white stuff on the Hydroton isn't mold, I'm almost completely sure its mineral build up, probably from the epsom salt solution I've been spraying them with...

Thanks for the advice, I've gotten the pH stabalized and the ppm may still be too high, if things don't start improving I may just flush and run fresh distilled water with no nutes for a few days.

I've also decided on doing a perpetual grow with another set of T-5s and a 1000W HPS... 2 sets of T5's for veg and the 1000W for my flowering plants... hopefully, that won't raise suspicion either.. I live by myself in a 2-story, 2 bedroom town house and I don't use much electricity (Last bill was $88.00), so I'm hoping they would just think it was an AC unit for summer or something.

Hey man pm's are fine man any time. I don't think those spots are magnesium. If it was magnesium the epsom would have cleared it up. What is the ppm? Does water splash the leaves at all? That could leave spots.

lookin good man.. what's your PH doing? Those look like spots from PH swings more than any sort of deficiency. Keep an eye on the new growth, but they look fine imo.

Day 15 from Germination

Flushed with fresh water last night to get rid of all the epsom salt and nutes... I'm now using pure bottled water with very light grow nutes. The plants seem to have taken well to it, this morning when I went to check on them they looked better than they did last night.

pH - 5.6 - 5.8
ppm - 100

PICS coming later today

Isn't it likely that the brown spots you have were caused by the sudden surge in pH? I'd think it should've shown up sooner, but with a big jump like that you could've had all kinds of problems that don't show up instantly. For example, you could've simply locked out a few nutrients temporarily and disrupted development as a result.

Whatever the case, looks like you're doing pretty well. I'm definitely along for the ride.
