Ok so I just started my grow a little ago and it is now day one of the first of 2 plants breaking from it's shell so I decided to do a little grow log to follow her (I hope!!!)

So I have 1 now in my growbox in my closet which consits of a cardboard box 1 CFL 13 W (gonna get 2 more better ones tomorrow probably or at least soon) a standard room fan and my pot which is 2.5 inches around and probably 5 inches tall...
The other plant is outside in a little plot I dug up and added potting soil to but it's raining and that one still has it's shell on right now...

The one in my box came to life first germinating and out of the ground


Here is the seedling...it seems to be bending one way (towards the camera) but I don't really worry about it right now cause it's still just coming out of the ground.

First question(s) though: Which leaves are the fan leaves? The circular ones or the jagged ones? And what are the other leaves called?

Edit: Oh and sorry for the bad pic...My camera was being fixed and is arriving monday so I will have much better quality starting then!

Update - Day 2


Little seedling...doing really well I've had to raise the light 1.5 inches because it started to grow too close haha...

Growbox from the side (yes I know it's cardboard but it's only during the first 4 weeks of veg and it's my first grow so I didn't really put a huge amount of effort to it) I have the vent at the top (no fans yet but workin on it) and the door at the bottom which I close but I use it to get at the plants quickly...

Growbox from the top (the light is attached to the top of the box so that's why it's so high right now) You can't see it but there's a little opening behind the fan to let fresh air in and the fan is stationary at the moment until I find a way to get it standing cause it was a clip on fan but I got nothing to clip it to and needed a fan asap haha...

Edit: I also put 14 more seeds to germinate which will go in small cups for about 1 week or so until they are transplanted outside...

hey man you might want to invest in some cfls. if thats an incandescent light, it doesnt really have all of the spectrum needed.

Yea I'm just using that light (which is a CFL but it's only 13w) until I get the money to get the CFL's which is monday...


Haha the guaranteed to rip you off was someone else but will these suffice? They're daylight cause I heard that's good for veg and they are 26w so if I want 100w or so per plant I'll have enough with the 4 that I'll have for my grow box and I'll have 2 for my seedlings from the 14 seeds germinating now but they are just staying there for a week tops so I figure I don't need 100w for them...

get 23W or 26 W CFLs they work great they dont get to hot.

Well at the moment it seems the Lowes near me only sells 13w bulbs so I got 6 of them for this plant so here's a aerial photo of my growbox:


The 6 lights are over the pot so you can't see the plant but here's day 3 of the plant's life above soil:






Question: Are the round leaves supposed to be a really dark green? And when around can I figure out genetics like how long will it take for the plant to be mature enough to figure if the plant is mainly sativa, indica or a mix?

Well I've been slacking (busy) and haven't gotten to update but here's day 6 with my second leaf set starting up!!!



Heat might be a small problem because when the box is open (most of the day) it is 85 degrees but when I close it up (4 hours in the afternoon) it gets to be around 95 but I can't open it up and have no way to vent it other than opening it cause then it just circulates hot air...any way to cool it otherwise?

Do you have a fan in it? Computer fans work well...you should have one intake and one exhaust fan to keep temps down.

I have a fan down at the bottom with a hole so that it pulls air through there and a hole at the top as an exhaust but no fan up top which works really well and keeps temps 83-85...You can see the fan in one of my previous pics but I have to keep the exhaust hole covered for a couple hours a day which is when the temps go up to 95 pretty quick and stay around there till I take off the cover...
