Don't quote me on this, but the general idea of the SOG (sea of green) technique is to grow a larger number of smaller plants by cutting down the veg time substantially in order to get quicker harvests.

While most people do this in order to speed up the harvest time, the reason to do it in this res if you have more than 2 plants is because the root masses will be smaller, thus hopefully minimizing the negative effects of the small size of the reservoir. As others have pointed out, six plants can literally not flourish in such a small reservoir.

I think (again don't quote me) that you either go straight to 12/12 and flower off the bat or only give them about a week or two of veg time before the switch.

As to the yellow leaves, I'm honestly not sure. I'm a n00b myself, especially when it comes to diagnosing such things. You might want to try posting in the sick plants forum.

I noticed that the plant on the last pic of the last page looks like it's stretching. How close do you have the lights? If using CFL's you should keep them within inches of the plants to minimize stretching and maximize your light output.

HTH. Good luck, mane.

I am growing 5 plants just fine in a system very similar to this (same res size) and have had no root problems at all. I have heard of Sh nutes causing root problems though. Start adding 1/4 nutes and get the lights closer and the yellowing should go away. Also look into Advanced Nutrients, I have never had a Ph,algae, or def/over nute problem with these nutes (crosses fingers and knocks on wood) just some advice.

Thanks for the feedbacks Comrade & Darth! As a noobie it feels good hearing stuff like oh just do this and it should be alright. I got my lights way closer than they were, I had them distant before cause of the heat problem i was having but now that I got my ventalization good its keeping the right temp with the lights close, theyre about 2 inches away.

Im gonna add some nuits to it a little later today... I was reading on some other site about people not feeding their mediums through the hoses all the time. I know SH recommends that after a while only feeding them 3 min an hour or seomthing, but what about when they are young, did you guys have the water pump on all the time or on a timer?

Im getting ready to kick back and puff some of this beautiful big bud i just got. Hope everyones enjoyin the day.

Well mines more of a drip system I think but I have my pump run 24/7, works fine, or maybe just run it when the lights are on.

Updates

Heyo - Heres some updated pics. I wish i could say that everything is going great now, but I cant. I was hoping if I ran into problems they would be more into the grow, not when they are still babies, but it seems like ive changed the conditions on these guys so many times they are confused... Im hoping there is still a way to get back on track with these. The yellow is still there, the one thats doing the best is pretty light colored, not dark green like I want it to be. I put in 1/4 a packet of grow and micro yesterday, but it didnt seem to do much, i might add another 1/4 later today.

One of them seemed like it was dying so I germinated another seed and popped it in there a couple days ago and its doing the best out of all of them, seems like its going to overcome their progress soon and its only a couple days old and the others are like 2 weeks! Im hoping they start growing again! Any ideas would be great.

I got the temp down to the right area, but the humidity is around 30% ive been told its better to get the temp down before humidity, i gotta figure out a way to get that humidity up though, im hoping this isnt the problem.

Glad to see ya got some duct tape on there. I'm tellin ya though, I had to put three layers on mine before it got totally dark inside the reservoir.

They definitely look like they're stretching so just keep that light close.

One thing is that it looks like you're still overwatering the rockwool. Those cubes retain water very well, so you only need to keep them damp. If you're watering the tops as well as keeping the hoses underneath running, you might want to consider cutting down on watering the tops. If you're only running the hoses, you might want to reposition them to get less water to those cubes.

As far as humidity, I never had any issues one way or another, whether it was 35 or 65. I know it's good to keep it at a normal level, but I haven't seen a big difference personally.

Peace.

Losing Hope

Thanks for the input guys! Good luck with your SH grow sryrus - keep us updated... As of now im really losing hope with the two that are the furtherest along, both are the only ones with roots, but they are they only two that are not being dark green like they should, and now they both have brown spots on top. At first I was thinking it might be the nuits I added, but none of the others are responding that way. I have the lights about 3inches away from them, and Im hoping its not burning them.... The one I planted a couple days ago is looking the best and most green. Now I just really want these to either die so I can plant new seeds, or to start getting better, Im not digging this slowly dying deal.

syrus - looking healthy, im a noob at this too so i couldnt tell you about trimming. The temp and humidity gauge I have was 10$ at walmart, seems to work pretty good. You should be able to change the resolution of your pictures in your camera. How you liking the iphone?
