day 008 24/0

Yeah that's fucked up no 100% germination rate for me with these seeds.....
I'll talk to my supplier about that.

On day 7 I find 5 have sprouted :

And on day 8 I started digging and found 1 more alive and 4 others dead:

60% germination rate pfff, good things these seeds are so cheap and in plenty supply.
I'm gonna cheat a bit here so I've replaced the 4 dead with 4 fresh seeds.
This should give me about 8.4 plants of which I intend to select the 3 best females and kill the rest.
I've got three 8 gallon containers waiting for my girls.
Ready for some serious vegging and topping and LST-ing.
Yes, you've read that right, I'm gonna cut up my plants again, form the plant to my desire and imagination.
I proved (to myself at least) in my of my previous grows that topping is just as efficient as LST-ing yieldwise.
And I kinda miss sitting on the floor with one of my plants pruning and bending away. I miss the up close and personal thing.

Well..that's the plan anyway let's see how things go from here.

Good luck bro! I wish I could shoot you some clones so you wouldn't have to go through this.

DAY 009 24/0

Yeah that sounds about right 4-8 days germination time from seed for NLX.
And listen to SmknVTEC noobies! Don't get impatient, and I like to add to never ever dig up the seeds like I did.
Unless you're really sure about yourself and know your shit.

Here look, air recon shows expanding patches of green in my grow area:

They always seem to grow so slow when they are so small.
While I know it's because plants grow exponentially it's still bugging me.
One good thing about this stage of my grow is that it only uses 36W of power for the 2 tubes.
Besides the excitement of checking the plants every day to see if something has sprouted ofcourse.

One day I may have to try this cloning stuff.
But have a personal thing against asexual reproduction.
And there's one thing about growing from seed that most people forget about : it's simplicity.
Just stick it in the soil, keep it a tidy bit moist and see what happens that's it.
Simple and stoned go together very well I think.

Cloning isn't as difficult as most people assume. Granted, some strains are harder to clone than others (Thai, Columbian), but its all a learning process.

Let me know when you want to try cloning and I will help answer any questions that you have.

Have a good one bro!

Thanks eleven357! Maybe, just maybe, one day I may ask for your cloning advise. But not for the moment, now I have maybe a thousand seeds to deal with.

Hey IMgreen, I'm a fan of KISSing too. Complexity = risk + unnecessary worries.

DAY 012 24/0

The newly planted seeds from day 8 haven't sprouted yet.
But I'm hoping for some activity there in the next weekend because the other 6 plants shouldn't be in such a small cup for such a long time.
There's some leaf deformation going on on 2 of those 6.
The kind that repeats it's deformation pattern in each leafset.
I'm keeing my eye on that one for usually they grow out of it.

Anyway here are the pics :

day 011

day 012

So I guess I'm doing allright still, except for the repeating deformations on 2.
More pictures soon!

DAY 017 24/0

Good news, all four replacement seeds have sprouted!
So I now have 10 plants to select the best 3 females from.
Because the plants that have sprouted last are still so small, I need to ask the bigger plants to stay in their containers for a few days longer.
This is not good because the largest of my plants are in need of transplant to a bigger container already.
O well....they'll live.

Here have a peek at what I'm up to:

day013:

day014:

day015:

day017:

Now I will let them grow for a few more days until I'm confident even the smallest of my plants will survive the transplant to pots.
Then I'll let them be about a week or so the get used to the new pots and then the ventilator goes on and I'll hit 12/12 to weed out the males.
Ofcourse I'm still watering the plants when needed but no nutes yet, these are still babies.

thanks for the moral support august&vtec!
Amazing what one can do with only 36W of light no?

DAY023 24/0

The rootbound plants are getting yellow leaves at the bottom because of lack of food.
No wonder since those small cups hold a only little bit of seedling soil which allmost has no nutes to begin with.

DAY026 24/0

The big day is today! Transplant time.
Very easy to do with these little cups now the soil is dry.
I just roll the cups between my hands then hold it upside down and out comes the soil clump in one piece.
They're moving from 0.15 liters cups to 3.0 liter pots so that's a 20 fold increase.
From seedling soil to general potting soil, pH 5.6-6.6.
So I've added some chalk(lime) to up the pH a bit in the long run and I should be good.
Alnd I've powered up some more lights, up from 2x18W to 6x18W so that's a three times as much.
I also started up the fan, refreshing the air inside the box once every 6 seconds.

Before :

After:

So now the smallest plants are like 18 days old and the biggest 26 it's time to veg.
I'm gonna leave them on 24/0 for one or two days to get used to the soil.
Then I switch to 18/6 for like 8 days so the youngest plants will be 4 weeks.
And then I hit 12/12 and weed out the males.
Well....that's the plan anyway.
Let's see how things go!
