JJNG5 1st Grow + Poppies

Hello everyone,

I have been learning a lot in the Beginner and Indoor Grow forums and appreciate everyone's help! I wouldn't be able to do this without you guys.

I have started 4 great bag seeds on 3/31 and planted 4/1. The pictures posted are Day 5. A friend of mine is cloning a couple of his best plants that I will be adding to my room as soon as they are fully rooted.

Setup:

MJ Veg room
  • 1.3' x 1.3' corner partitioned by two box lids (covered with dull side of foil) and under a table
  • 5 x 26W CFL's, 6500K, 1600 Lumen each
  • Small fan
  • Digital Temperature / Humidity reader (Low/High: 65-81 Degrees F, 35-53 Humidity)
  • Timer set to 18/6
Poppy Veg
  • 1 x 2' 40W Fluro 6500K, 2050 Lumen
  • 1 x 23W 6500K, 1600 Lumen CFL
  • Timer set to 12/12
Flower Room
  • 400W HPS with MH Conversion bulb
  • 4' (width) x 2' (depth) x 8' (height)
  • *Currently not in use*

I'm definetly subscribing to this journal. Mostly because I also use fluoro tubes and CFL's, plus I also have poppies growing in my grow area. I'm going to keep an eye on this and good luck.

O, btw Your plants do not look like they're growing slow for 5 days in that one pic. J/s.

When the poppie grows it developes a big ole ball on the top of it. You don't need to flower this plant to get good a ripped off of it. Once that ball on top developes you can thinly slice it with a razor blade and let the milky stuff drip onto foil or something you can get it off of later. Let it dry and smoke. The ball heals itself. You can repeat this process quite a bit.
I don't recommend it though for that stuff is HIGHLY addictive and can and probably would eventually kill you in the end if you became addicted. I don't know very many opiate addiction happy endings...

Thanks GigZ. Poppies have the reverse light cycle of MJ. MJ is a late growing plant (starts best in mid-late summer and ends in fall). Poppies on the other hand start in early spring and finish in late summer. So to imitate the natural light cycle of early spring (shorter days and less intense light), they prefer 12/12 for veg. As soon as you want to trigger it to flower (make poppy pods), you switch to 18/6 -- making the plant believe that it is in the middle of summer and needs to hurry up and spread its seed. They also prefer much cooler temperature then MJ but can deal either way. They are a lot of fun. This is my first poppy grow and my seeds were several years old and I made the mistake of planting too many per container. I will post a picture later on for everyone to see.

Thanks!

I have chronic pain and am on 50mcg/hr of fentanyl which is stronger then the 120MG of morphine per day that I used to be prescribed. I am not too worried about a couple grams of opium. Thanks though .

And no, the stuff isn't very addictive because as soon as you start to like it, you run out anyways. It's not a plant like MJ that produces a big harvest and it is a mild opiate.

Thats funny cause I accidentally started my own poppies on 12/12 wth some flowering plants, and they'll finish with my 24/0 with my next batch going thru veg...

Some PPL never run out and that can make life VERY unmanageable.

Update guys! This has been a true learning experience, let me tell you! I loved my plants too much and probably hurt them a bit when I introduced Super Thrive too early and a bit of Epsom salts. Neither of which they needed. I just wanted them to get a healthy start when it seems like they were way behind on growth. I also added 1/10 strength of 15-30-15, thinking it would help with root development.

They are now 22 Days old (3 weeks) and some are looking good and others I am a bit worried about. Take a look at the pictures. Everything I have personally started from seed has been doing wonderful and bounced back from any yellowish color that I was once concerned about. However, the three taller plants in the back of my pics, has had limited growth since I've cared for them and they have been droopy from day 1. Some of them also seem to brown off at the ends, crust up, and I have to end up removing them. Take a look...

Any advise is appreciated. I received my Blue Mystic seeds from Nirvana (Blueberry x Skunk) and also received some freebie seeds of Original Haze x Skunk1. I am very excited. All 3 Blue mystic seeds germinated today along with 1 out of 2 Haze x Skunk I am trying to get going now.

Thanks guys!
