OK, so.. my first grow. Now, please let me explain something first, before everyone goes apeshit on me. hahah

I AM POOR!
These seeds came from a bag of middies

ok, with that said.......

Germination: 03-12-2008
To begin germination, I placed my little seed in a damp paper towel wrap, and shut it up in a tupperware container.. I found a little taproot protruding a few days later, so I placed it in a beer cup, as you can see pictured, and put it in my kitchen cupboard.

My little baby poked out during the night, and I noticed this morning, so I put that goodness in my closet with a CFL over it.

Everything is looking good so far, and I can already see the jagged leaves poking out between the cotyledons. They are a pretty green color, so I am pretty excited. I think this grow is gonna go pretty well. I just checked, and the soil is still a little moist, so I probably won't have to water again for a day or two

I am going to place this in a big pot pretty soon.. probably in 4 or 5 days, and start with LST, because I don't want no 4' plant in my closet. hahah. LST just seems like the smartest thing, because it is so easy to keep lights on it, without having to use so many. what do y'all think about it?


Also, before you read my stats on what I have going here, lemme state again, I AM POOR. hahah. OK, and, I am not trying to grow this to get some BBBBBAD ass potent bud. Even if this is a male, I'm still going to let it grow. I like my sig says, am a gardener, and I love agriculture. I love growing plants, and this is just to add to my experience. Having this plant be a female will be a HUGE bonus for me, but it doesn't really matter one way or another.


STATS on Setup:

LIGHTS:
Currently, I have one 23-watt CFL that gives off 1600 lumens and is 3000K color temp.
I have 2 more 23-watt CFL having the same specs, but I do not have lamps for them yet. Also, could someone tell me if I should get a lamp like... yesterday and blaze them on there, or if just that 1 one it is fine for now?

SOIL:
right now, I bought an 8lbs bag of gardening soil for $1 at family dollar and I am using that. I noticed that when wet, or damp, it is kind of hard, like there is a clay substance in it, but of course it has already rooted in, and I have other plants growing fine in it, so all seems well so far.

I don't know the PH of the soil and water, because I don't have money for a tester, and probably never will during this.

I do not have any nutes yet, and I do not know if I will use them, but if someone could tell me where to get some good cheap ones, then I might get them


for my pictures, I am using a digital video camera, which has still picture capability of course, but not built for focusing well and all that, so my close ups are blurry. I will see if my homie has a camera that I can borrow for them closeups.

So here's some pics so far.
I will probably be updating ALOT, because this is my first time, and it is pretty exciting. Even though I am going to be experimenting a little, I will still be asking questions, as I am a n3wb, so any input will be greatly appreciated

well hey hey, I just found 2 more seeds that had taproots poppin, so I just put them in soil, and put baggies over them for the moisture, and put them in my kitchen cupboard. I also have some green pepper, cucumber, and some other seeds germinating, so whenever they grow, I can make everyone a nice "green" salad.... replacing the lettuce with something a little more appetizing


Also, if someone can get back to me about the nutes.... are the absolutely necessary to grow with.. or just better and gives a bigger yield?

OK, now that that is outa the way... I will happily watch this grow because I am new as well and just scrapped a hydro grow because of some health issues caused by the ultrasonic fogger.

So, I am currently germing some seeds and will be going soil as well this time around!

Sorry, I did not see your question.. There are tons of people more knowledgeable then me, but in my humble opinion the nutes are very much needed.

See, it really depends on the growing medium you use... You are using soil, right?

So, if you had foxfarm's ocean forest soil (great!), then you would not need nutes for almost 4 weeks or so!

However, if using a completely nuetral soil with 0 nutes already in it, then nutes will be needed when the seedling is like 2-4" tall or so.

It also is personal preference!

Oh, and the strain of marijuana is most important... Sativas hate heavy nute doeses for the most part, while some Indicas swallow them up!

However, as a general rule of thumb, I would say to keep it nute free at least until the seedling is 2" tall or so and then to use a watered down PPM of about 200 (depending on waters starting ppm) until the seedling is 4" tall and then to raise it to 400PPM.

When the plant is about 5-6" tall, you are usually safe to raise it to 800PPM.

When entering flowering, a 1000PPM is usually good, and 1200 -1400 for full-on flowering is ok, but remember to flush with plain water about a week before harvesting!

*** Again, this is very general and subjective.. so remember to find out info on your strain.
*** Remeber to start very low!!! with nutes and wrok up!
*** And pay attention to the plant! They will tell you wjat they need!
*** The biggest 2 mistakes a n00b such as myself can make is 1) over nute 2) overwater.

Remember what they pros taught me on this site: KISS (keep it simple stupid)

Yea, I just checked, and so far so good with this one. And I got 2 more in the cupboard now, seeing if they will sprout. I think now I'm more liking the idea of a female. hahah.

are you just going to let yours grow up, or use LST?

just grow as this is an outdoor operation Just topping them once improves my yield more than trying to tie down tons of plants so they grow stronger/better lol

so.. is it just me, or do other people check their plants like.. every hour, hoping for some phenomenal growth, but knowing there won't be any? hahaha, maybe its just cuz its my first grow.. i dunno, but everything is still looking good

nah man everyone does it and it only gets worse if you continue growing

i have not seen a live plant since october so I am checking my cups every few hours noticing some results at least seeing 3/4 small seedlings starting to rise and turn green

she almost NEVER smokes... and sometimes I don't even know why she does, I guess just to chill since its only at my homies house. But I know she is gonna try to take the first hit when I harvest! hahah

Yea I guess I should. But it doesn't have to bee real soon right? I think I read that you shouldn't nute them up until like atleast 2 weeks into veg.

How much do nutes cost?
