SOB!

So there's two different Hanna Instruments pocket combo testers that look the exact same. One's the 98129, and one's the 98130. The 98129 apparently is the normal one (probably the one you have VTEC).

98129:

Range pH 0.00 to 14.00 pH

Range EC 0 to 3999 µS/cm

Range TDS 0 to 2000 ppm

Range Temperature 0.0 to 60.0°C / 32 to 140.0°F

Resolution pH 0.01 pH

Resolution EC 1 µS/cm

Resolution TDS 1 ppm

Resolution Temperature 0.1°C / 0.1°F

98130 (the one I got thinking it was the better of the two) :

Range pH 0.00 to 14.00 pH

Range EC 0.00 to 20.00 mS/cm

Range TDS 0.00 to 10.00 ppt

Range Temperature 0.0 to 60.0°C / 32 to 140.0°F

Resolution pH 0.01 pH

Resolution EC 0.01 mS/cm

Resolution TDS 0.01 ppt

Resolution Temperature 0.1°C / 0.1°F

So the one I have measures things...differently. What the fuck is up with that?!?!

fuckity fuck fuck. Anyone know how to translate my mS/cm into normal EC? And am I right with thinking PPT is just 1/1000th of PPM so I should multiply the reading by 1000? Don't understand why this one is like this.

The meter directions say on how to change the EC/TDS conversion factor [conv] and the temp compensation coefficient beta

From measurement mode press and hold the power/mode button [with the 3/4 circle and line through it]until TEMP and the current temp unit are displayed on the lower LCD

Press the power/mode button again to show the current conversion factor E.G 0.50 CONV

Press the SET/HOLD button to change conversion factor

Press the power /mode button to show the current temperarture compensation coefficient

Press the set/hold to change the temp compensation limit

Press the power/mode button to return to the normal measuring mode.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the reply, Smkn.

Those are in my directions as well. I think that's for changing the conversion factor and the coefficient for the temperature compensation.

It appears that you have the 98129 and I have the 98130, and mine measures strangely compared to the norm. I'm not sure why it's like that, but I emailed the place I got the meter from asking them if I can switch it out for the 98129.

My best theory right now is that there just isn't enough water in the res for all 4 plants. The res is more roots than water at this point and I think that this small of a res can't support 4 large plants. So perhaps they're all competing for oxygen...in the water...or...

As I said, it is the one with the purple roots and I've noticed some of the branches have been purpling a bit for awhile now but I thought it was normal...

If the roots of these plants keep growing at the pace they have been there is no way all 4 plants will survive in this space. I don't see a way for me to get a new res during this grow so it might be beneficial for me to chop this plant anyway to make room. I could move the smaller plants around to make the best of the space I have. I just don't know if I would reveg if I do that to refill the screen or...shit I'm just getting ahead of myself right now.

I rinsed the hell out of the rockwool cube and roots with plain cold water and misted the crap out of the leaves. I can't dump the res until Friday...

As always, any help/advice/suggestions are appreciated.

Yeah it's two different meters. No idea what the hell the one I have is for as far as how it reads...

Yeah, they're all in the one 8 gallon reservoir. I think it's just too fucking small to support 4 plants (yet it's sold with spots for 6 net pots). I'm thinking 3 might make more sense. I just wish I knew the sex of the plants so I'd know which to kill...

As far as I can tell. It's not really purple shit. It's literally purple roots lol. I can see about 3 or 4 purple veiny makes-me-want-to-vomit lookin' roots on that plant. I'd noticed a little purpling of the stems in the past couple weeks but I just thought that was normal...

I put some Flora Kleen in there and I'm going to flush it tonight. If it doesn't get better quick I'm going to axe it to make more room for the others.

No idea what's up with it. Noone seems to have any ideas about the purple roots.

that sux man.. i have no clue about hydro but since no one has stepped up.. all i can say is personally if it were my plants and that 1 doesn't perk up anytime soon i'd get it out of that rez just incase that purple spreads to the others.

I don't know anything about stuff going wrong in hydro (yet) but removing it and flushing might not be a bad idea to protect the rest
