Thumbs up 1st Time CFL Budget Closet Gro!

Ello, started a 4 days ago. Been readin like crazy, and think I have a pretty decent setup, nothing like the pros lol, but something to learn from. Closet is covered with blanket/towel.

So I germinated then went straight to the big pot. Currently there are 2 in one pot, but I'm going to transplant one into a 10' when I can get more soil.(Lowe's only had Miracle Gro and so gonna check Walmart later for better.) The soil is currently Miralcle Gro...i know, only soil I found readily available in my garage that my mom used last summer. I'm going to add better soil to the transplant pot and compare how each does.

For the lights I started with a 42w CFL and a 20w CFL. Just added 2 23w CFLs(socket adapters rock...don't have to spend on extra lamps) hanging above that are both around 6000k which should hopefully help with the veg. Let me know if I need to rearrange them. Also is the foil bad? My walls are white but I just heard from a friend that foil is good to use.

For other things I have a osc. fan that will be kept on full time, and also a space heater which is nice for getting the closet nice and warm. Usually the temp. is at a constant 72-80 deg F.

I think this should be pretty successful for my first time, only thing buggin me right now is the 2 in one pot, which will be fixed soon, and the soil situation. But i'll keep you guys updated on the ghetto(but good!) set up

hey man. The cfl's are great but the tin foil has to go. It can create heat spots and burn the plant. If you could get some mylar or black/white panda plastic. Either would reflect the light correctly. Good luck and keep up the good work.

Ello , welll...day 5 and I must say it seems that the extra lights helped.

Now I got another pot and I can transplant because I found some soil in my garage. It's called Sta Green, anyone know about this brand? It has peat moss, and some other ingredients that I recognized that I hear people talk about. If it's decent I'll fill that up and transplant. I'm just really nervous about transplanting, dont wanna hurt the plant.

Rather than that, everything looks good, update in a few days.

Ello again .

Just transplanted one of the planted into a 8'' and moved the other to the middle of its current pot. Must say it was one of the most frustrating/hardest things i've ever done lol. I thought I almost lost one, but somehow I was successful.

Hopefully the shocks aren't too bad, because its straight up from here , wish me luck! Will update in a few days.

Yo

Well, two days after transplanting into 8'' plant. The original continues to grow well, but the one in the other pot seems to have started kinda growing very slowly. But i'm just guessing it needs a few days to recuperate .

I haven't added any ferts yet, but i'm prob gonna go look around lowe's/walmart and see if they have anything to help growth. Usually I water them very little, like half a cup of water every day and a half. But I'm trying to see how spliting a full cup between them goes.

The one in the green plastic pot is the transplanted.

when you water the plants, all of the soil should become moist all the way down to the bottom of the pot. If you water just enough to wet the top, the roots will grow poorly. goodluck.

Long Time No Update

Yo

Ok, so I haven't updated in a while, but just been keeping pics for my own good lately.

Started 12/12 almost 2 weeks ago. So far proving all you Miracle Gro haters wrong haha, the larger plant is growing like crazy. The smaller one also is starting to catch up after the transplant.

Only had a small burn a week ago, because might lights fell, but only affected parts of two leaves.

Also started LST this morning on the larger one.(not shown)

Fastforwarding.....

Smaller Plant, Feb19

Larger Plant, Feb19

Larger plant, Feb24

Smaller Plant, Feb24

Miracle Grow Haters.

It's not that it won't grow the plant, it's just not the greatest. So far so good.

I may have missed it, but why did you decide to flower with your plants so small?

People flower from seed, so why can't I after 3weeks? I dunno really, I guess mainly because I don't want the plants growing too larger, and this closet grow is just practice for when I start to grow more seriously outside when spring comes.

Plus i'm not too concerned about the yield, as it's for personal supply.

So these sprouted on the 3rd. It's the 27th when you updated it. so 24 days of growth, minus two weeks = 10 days of actual "vegging". I just dont see you getting like any weed of a plant that small, but maybe thats just me...

I believe that most of the people who I've seen do 12/12 from seed are using HID lighting and are doing a SoG typ grow with a lot of plants. CFL's won't give you anywhere near the yield that you'd get from HID, so you may want to let the plants grow a bit longer before you start flowering. You might also want to consider topping and/or LST'ing your plants to increase your yield.

That said, if you really have your heart set on going 12/12 now, go for it. Just realize that your yields will be really low - probably less than 1/2 oz per plant.
