fear's 5th grow : NLX

YES!
Grow number 5 is here.
The fifth grow I will document here on this forum.
NLX this time.
These are the free seeds that I got from Nirvana, when I bought the seeds I used for my previous 2 grows (COB & NLxBB)
I found 11 seeds in the bag that were supposed to be 10.
Looked really pale and unhealthy to me, so I figured it's time to stick'em in the soil and see what happens.
Seedling soil that is, nothing special, but I know it won't burn them.
I've got them under 2x18=36W of two foot long fluro tubes now.
Temps are around 20C and the humidity is about 50%.
I'm running without ventilation still in this stage.
Much to my suprise I found some of the seeds sprouted.
5 are obvious and the 6th just broke the surface.
Another slow germinator like COB, freakin' Sativa genes.
I've watered then twice now, simple pH 8 tapwater.
(one of the great virtues of the Netherworld...mmmm....lands is it's water. Lots of it. And you can actually safely drink the tapwater here too!)

Here look, my ganja toking ass just took a pic for you all to watch :

Long time no see. How has the HPS been treating you (I think I remember you using a HPS during flowering in the last grow I was around for)?

Hey youngandnotthatstupid!
Welcome to the show buddy!
Thank you for joining us.

The HPS has been great.
This bulb I use is a 400W Philips SON-T PIA Plus.
It's one bright motherfucker I'll tell ya that.
56500 lumens is a shitload of light, I never open the growbox with the light on.
I only use the HPS for flowering and the plants love it.
Bigger taller wider nugs, my personal best is now 22 grams bonedry on 1 nug.
So yes I recommend HPS for flowering because it makes your grow so much more efficient.

I just choose not to use HPS for seedling/vegging stage because of the power it consumes and thus money it costs to operate it.
I have good experience seeding/vegging under fluros so I'll stick to that because its cheap and it works fine.

I'm glad to see you're still posting and your grows are getting better with each one. I just checked your last grow and damn man, damn. Looking at those buds make me want to get an HPS quite bad. But I don't think I will because as of this July I have to hang up my grower's cap (moving in with the gf and she doesn't want to risk growing ). Plus I like the idea of getting results with just a basic setup. Your grow makes it really tempting though. Do you top your buds? I'm going to try and get back into the groove here at the city so for as long as I'm back I'll be diligently checking this thread, and green-eyeing your HPS.

UPDATE DAY 030 transplanted

It's been ages since I've posted, my computer went bust on me....
I'm using another compu right now, to keep you all updated on my progress.
See it here :

day 008 :

day 030 :

They have a little damage because I've failed to water them properly around day 14.
Nothing they won't outgrow is all my lazy ass has to say about that.

Of the 11 seeds only 6 would germinated.
I guess the freebees from Nirvana are not that great.
I'm gonna put the lights on 12/12 as of today, to see how many boys and how many girls heaven has sent me.
The plants are small for 30 days old, but hey what do you want with only 36 Watts of power.
I've turned on all the other fluros today, for a total of 216W.
The bad news is that the plants are about 4 inches away from the lights because I can't lower them anymore.
The good news is that they are now growing in 8 gallon containers and they'll strech upwards to meet the light in only a few days no doubt.
No hurries here.....I'm still blazed from my last harvest.

EDIT : O yeah I'm trying out a new type of soil in this grow, just another type of general potting soil but this actually tells me pH = 5.5-6.5 and eC = 350.

Isn't that too low of a ph for soil? i thought they wanted between 6.0-7.5, but i could be mistaken. i dont grow in soil myself so im used to having my ph at 5.5-5.8

Those look a wee bit small for 30 days but when I remember that that's with only 36 Watts it makes sense. It sucks that only germinated but hey that means whatever girls you get you can turn into monsters . How's your last harvest's smoke?

52 days ago I stuck the seeds in the soil.

A long long time ago....in a galaxy far away.
I started growing NLX and tried to keep a regular log of this grow.
Then I started smoking from my COB harvest from my last grow.
Definately not the best weed I smoked but if I smoke enough of it, it'll get me toked.
And it has a tedency of making me lazy...not like couchlock lazy but still lazy.
If all Sativas are like this then I prefer Indicas.
So I'm not unhappy that this, NLX I'm growing now, supposedly partly sativa, is displaying mainly Indica traits.
But like I said, if I smoke enough of it....and my last harvest is still keeping my buzzed daily so I'm allright there.
This stuff actually makes me so lazy I didn't even bother raising the lights this week...my plants are toasted on top.
Oh fuck it...they look strong enough no problemo.
Good for the side branching no?

I ended up with 3 females and 2 males and decided to go for seed this time.
Yes people you've heard that correct, there's gonna be some serious baby making sex in my closet soon!
I like the way these NLX leaves start to glitter so early in the grow, I'm betting this is gonna be a snow cone grow.
I'm growing 24/7 so far, except for two weeks of 12/12 for presexing.

I'll try to post up pictures every week from now, I think I have something here worth showing :

And because I have a new better camera now, I have the membership privilege of having to downsize my pictures because of that stupid 2 MB upload limit.
And while I still have no clue as to how to control the manual focus on this thing, I can still show you a pretty picture of some leaves.
It'll give you an impression of why I wouldn't mind having dozens of seeds of this type of plant:

Have a nice grow!

Since I'm going for seeds this time I'm kinda wondering how big of a percentage of THC is lost to seed formation.
I want to know how big the smoking-effect diffence is between virgin flowers and those that have been mommiefied.
Maybe I'll start dream about MILFs?

DAY 065 since I stuck the seeds in the soil.

Damn. It's been more then two months now since I started this grow.
Everything is still going smoothly, they just keep getting bigger and I keep tying 'em down.
I have NOT nuted anything yet, which means the soil I'm trying is pretty well pre-nuted!
They suck up about 2 liters per container per week now and I'm not even flowering.
The growbox is getting cozy, just two more weeks and I'm flat out of surface area, which means two weeks until I hit 12/12.
Here, look what I mean with cozy :

And here are the plants up close and personal, you can see evidence even fluros can burn leaves, especially so when your plant is low on water.

Have a nice grow!
