What's up GC?
This is my first grow log on here and I hope it turns out to be a good one.
Here's the low down on the box.

It's one of those locker trunks (think of the Harry Potter movies and their trunks for school) turned so I can maximize head room. I put a whole can of flat white spray paint on the inside, but that wasn't enough... So I got the house paint out and put 2 more coats of flat white on there. I'm thinking about building a screen so I can scrog 2 plants. Right now it has a small fan blowing gently on the top of the pots and 2 x 23w CFLs hanging from the ceiling (I used a Y-splitter and salvaged the cord and socket out of an old lava lamp base, is this safe?). I'm planning on mixing up the spectrum, adding more CFLs, and adding some fluoro tubes along the walls. I'm looking for a good 150-200w total in the end. I'm gonna get a computer fan wired to a 12v plug this weekend, maybe 2(1 intake, 1 exhaust). I'm also gonna try a couple DIY carbon filter methods. I'm thinking about using a kleenex box(the long kind) chicken wire/screen, duct tape, and active carbon. Don't really want to type out the procedure here, ask me if you want it. Other than that, I'm so excited for my beans to pop open



Today I put 4 random seeds into germ. Wet paper towel in a plastic bag on top of a heat source, yada yada yada.
My fingers are crossed for 2 girls. =) And I'm hoping that my dankest seed is a girl, it came from an eighth of some cat piss/ fruity chronic with a real happy then heavy stone. ahhh pleaseee be a girl.

I think that's it. I'm gonna try to get a digital camera this weekend to give everyone a better idea of whats goin on.

I found some liquid fish emulsions and liquid seaweed stuff in the garage. Anybody know of a good way to utilize both of these or should I go a'searchin?

Be careful with the fish emulsions. That stuff is almost pure nitrogen, and quite acidic. It doesn't really contain enough of the other nutrients - especially calcium and magnesium - that marijuana plants need. It can really mess up your pH, and possibly burn your plants too.


Not too sure about the seaweed, but I suspect it'd be more of the same. That's just a guess though and could easily be wrong.

I could just add a couple drops of the fish or seaweed per gallon and water one plant with it to see what's up. I heard somewhere, i think on DP website, that nitrogen may make more females. Idk if thats true at all, but it's worth a shot. Now on to the grow....

Just looked at the seeds, one has a crack in it and there's no activity with the other three (other than looking a little swollen). What's a good temp to keep the seeds at for germ.? Right now they're on top of a home theater system receiver and I think it may be too hot. I mixed some hydrokorrels in with the soil. Is this ok or should i sift em out? The pots are sitting bare and lonely, waiting.... C'mon seeds, crack opennn! haha I'm not sure if I have enough patience for this. Well that's all for now. Any input is much appreciated.

Finished taping up the sides of my "pots" with that silver duct tape, poked holes in the bottom for drainage, etc. just waiting on the other 3 beans to crack open. The one seed has a small white part protruding from the tip of it, hopefully its the tap root and not part of the paper towel. hehe
I hope by later tonight I'll be able to put at least one seed into the cab.


I still need a couple modifications on the box but that'll have to wait for payday (Friday)
- 2 computer fans
- temp/hygrometer
- pH tester
- 8 more cfls (5 6500k and 3 2700k)

Ahhh I can't wait!

I just planted the one open seed in its pot about 1 inch deep with the tap root facing down, I lightly pushed some of the soil on top to cover it. I'm so happy too because the seed that germed first is the seed that came from the dankest bagseed Cross your fingers for a girl, cause it's gonna be one helluva ride! I'm so excited

i would get bigger fans. 8in or more diameter for an efficient exhaust.
comp fans work well only in cramped small tiny areas. You have a box with a decent height.
You should install 2 fans, a freshair inlet in the bottom of the case and an exhaust out at the top. (hot air rises)

you can use the comp fans to provide the girls with some breeze in seedling stage, or to eliminate hot problem areas in the box.

My box dimensions are as follows:

28" internal height

1.14 sq. ft, i think....

Correct me if I'm wrong, but there's not too much room in there. I think the pics make it look a lot bigger than it actually is. I got a computer fan wired up to a 12v adapter in about 5 minutes and i'll have that mounted in the upper portion of the box by friday... I hope..... the old fan and the new computer fan(unmounted and facing upward) are doing a pretty good job of keeping the temps low in there with the 2 23w CFLs on. I'll have to wait until I get my other CFLs and temp/rH meter to know for sure. But yeah man read my picture post, i was planning on the 2 fan system, one intake, one exhaust (maybe 2 exhuast and some passive intake on top of the active if the lighting is too intense).

I really hope I get all my supplies before the girls are seeing light. I kinda jumped the gun on germinating them, ohhh well. I'm still having a blast.

it did look bigger in the pics. so ur all set then
1.14 sqft is still tiny (its enough for 1 plant). you will feel the need to expand later.
Enjoy your grow.

and use only the daylight CFLs in veg. (white/blueish ones)
yellow in flowering. your plants will veg better. no need to mix.

ive got a similar setup and i will also be expanding soon since the girls are almost teenagers. check it out.

I think I'm gonna use dual spectrum throughout the whole grow with more blue than yellow in veg to promote females. My way of thinking, if it's in the spectrum of useable light, ima use it. Would it be more beneficial for 2 small LST SCROGed plants or one LST scrog? I'm looking for a quick harvest so... shorter veg with 2 plants or longer veg with one? which would produce more? It's all for personals anyway, I just hate spending hard earned money on overpriced dank.

Oh and about the need to expand... yeah I'm moving in 3 months so this grow is just a refresher and for some experience before I really get down to it. I'm planning an insane fluoro grow, keep your eyes peeled in a couple months. Anyone remember DubPhiend from OG? Well... it's gonna be a lot like his dual cab 512w fluoro grow. (he achieved somewhere around 0.8 or 0.9 grams per watt) I might up the wattage to 384 watts in the flower chamber and 256 in the veg. twelve 4ft 32w t8 bulbs 1/4" apart powered by 3 4-bulb ballasts on a light rack for flower (mixed spectrum of course) and 8 of the same t8 bulbs(mixed spectrum) for veg. powered by 2 4-bulb ballasts.

I've got some designs for HID lit boxes too (2 x 150w HPS or a 400)... still haven't decided which style I like more or if I can afford to go the HID route. But if I do, i'll definitely be building one of the awesome DIY cooltubes that are posted all over ICMag.

your girl needs the yellow in veg. you could be using just white/daylight and youd be encouraging faster healthier growth. HOW much better is it? i dont know. does anyone have a #?
but this is what most people would recommend.

Im planning on switching bulbs to yellow come flowering.

ill stop with this light crap now. i think i got my point across.

if you can fit 2 plants do it, you have height but not width, cram them bitches in tight and keep them lights low to the canopy, keep that canopy even. do you have any links or anything to that mega floro grow id love to see that sounds tits. as far as air exchange i think youll need a few computer fans exhausting .you can get really cheap desk fans in like 5 to 8 inches forlike 5 smackers. at lowes you can get a small exhaust fan with ducting and everything for around 20. your on your way to some buds man i cant wait to see how it plays out for ya. peace


ohh, and on the lighting subject i think youll need blue/white floro`s for veg. (im sure u know that) i think walmart calls them cool blues, and you can get all the orange/yellow from soft whites.
