First CFL grow ever, and my room isn't even done!

This grow started off rushed. Germination took less than 2 days, I expected it to take a week or two.

So here's what we have right now. 5 seedlings sprouting their first set of leaves, in individual cups. I had nothing set up in the room, I was planning on doing that this weekend.

Now, I have enough to keep them alive through veg, and plenty of time to set up the flowering room. I hope you'll all enjoy watching my first CFL grow, and my first ever "solo" grow (I've helped people but never done it myself).

Here's a picture taken about 10 minutes ago. It's from my cell phone, my digital camera needs new batteries

looks like it's going good so far. What strain are those?

Your room looks slightly cluttered, I think it could help if it was really clean and sanitary. Hopefully reduce your chance for any kind of bugs / mites.

The girl I got the seeds from said they were Power Plant seeds and there were a couple seeds from a bag of weed I had that was really good. There were a few stray seeds in it though, figured I'd experiment with free seeds rather than expensive seedbank seeds Those are for the HPS grow

The "room" the seedlings are in is just the top of my water heater. I had the seedlings up there while I was setting up the seedling/clone chamber. It still isn't completely done. But I agree, it needs to be clean, and the room & chambers have all been disinfected and bleached. That wasn't done beforehand because I didn't expect the seeds to be ready to plant until next week; they germinated crazy fast.

The seedlings have been relocated to the veg chamber now that it's nearly complete.

All seedlings have developed their first set of true leaves and are now growing their 2nd set.

They're all doing fine. Here's a few pics to show their progress Most of the lighting was moved for these pictures, that's why there are only 3 lights visible.

Those plants look soo green and healthy. Looks like you're off to a good start. I did a CFL grow a while back and you can actually get pretty decent yields. Mine was in hydro but you should check it out for comparison. CFL's are a great way to start because you don't have to worry so much about ventilation. But when you're plants get big and you've got those bulbs mounted all over your room, it gets to be a pain (just a warning). Thats why I switched to HPS

What kind of soil are they in? When are you gonna transplant to bigger pots?

I'm definitely doing a HPS grow, but I'm waiting until I get moved into a better place

They're in Black Gold soil, but the bottom set of leaves on a couple plants have some mild nutrient burn thanks to time release ferts. They're growing healthy though, each day a new set of leaves has started.

I'm moving them into bigger pots (3 - 5 gal) sometime this week; whenever I have the time to go get those pots and some new soil.

Update: All plants have now been transplanted. Here's a couple pictures of the new setup. When I get time I'm going to build a light rack. Until then, they can dangle from extention cords and be blown around by the fan. The moving light has actually been helping the bigger plants. The smallest one (yellow leaves) is still either unrooted or barely rooted. The BlueBerry clone has been fed with nutes to try and nurse it to health. It was almost rootbound when transplanted. The Big Bug clone wasn't rootbound but needed the new soil. The 5 plants from seed are all growing. The one I transplanted last week has started growing super fast again. The others should be resuming fast growth in a few days.

Hopefully my next update will have some good news for the 2 clones that are struggling. Whoever cloned them didn't do a very good job

NOTE: The 3 yellow circles are the clones I got from another medical grower I know. The 5 unmarked ones are from 2 of the best strains I've smoked in the last year or so. Unfortunately I don't remember what strains!

Hey man in answer to your question in the sick plants thread, it looks like they got fert burned. As you found out, black gold soil has lots of nutes in it and a sensitive strain like power plant can burn easily. Next time the soil dries out completely, 1-2 inches deep, go ahead and flush the plants. If you have a 5 gallon pot, give it 15 gallons to flush. It is a pain in the ass I know, but in your case I think it is necessary. Welcome to growing and best wishes.

Thanks man but I got this taken care of a long time ago. All the plants are green now, and rapid growth is noticable. The Blueberry clone was definitely suffering from deficiencies, as were the other plants. Whatever small amount of time release fert in that soil is left, doesn't bother the plant much now that the roots have expanded past that ball of dirt into the new soil. Once I determine sex on all plants I plan to start flowering.

All plants are growing great. The Blueberry clone which nearly died is growing fast, is a nice shade of green, and has recovered fully from it's nutrient deficiencies

I'll post some pics in a couple days when the last plant resumes rapid growth.

When I went to water today, I found that one of the plants is absolutely covered in spider mites. It turns out the clones the plant grew from, came from a plant that was infested, and the grower didn't bother to tell me before I got the clone from him. Damn that man!

Anywho. I'll be killing those and making sure they don't spread to my other plants, and hopefully getting some digital quality pics (cell phone pics don't cut it). The plants are all growing nice and fast and are very healthy.

Neem oil should help with mites.
